    This was awesome. You saved me a lot of time! I just took a razor to start the cut, and then used a small hand saw. Had the plastic cut off in about 5 minutes, and the whole job was done in under 45 mins.
    Thanks!

    Thank you dude! Got a quote for $2300 to replace the alternator and the “much needed” pulley kit! The current alternator is 2.5 years old! 15k miles on it, from BMW! Hate this car! Doing it myself. No stock air box so this nipple isn’t needed.

  • @luisvargas4577

    I removed my old alternator by cutting plastic from intake manifold but still kept the nipple without fully sawing it off. The plastic nipple is where the engine cover bottom right corner snaps in to. I also cut 1/2in from connector that’s on the alternator that sticks out. Then I removed the alternator. I had to sand down bottom right and top left corners from new alternator at least 1/16th. So that I had enough clearance for the OFHG (top alt.) and also allowing bottom side of alt. to slide in to place easier. I did not have to remove a/c compressor Or metal bracket behind a/c compressor. I made sure not to sand off too much so that the new alternator fit nice and snug. I used a rubber matter to line up the alternator bolt holes. I did not have to cut connector from new alternator. Took me 1 hr to do this job without removing intake manifold. 2014 f30 n55

AC Delco alternators are now made in Mexico, not saying that's a problem, however a $700 alternator should last longer than a week. The TYC (Taiwan) @$250 lasted 2 years.

    Much appreciated! I managed to remove the alternator the same way (with much rejoicing) in the garage last night. I am however still struggling to get the new one back in. Was that a Denso and do I need a sledge hammer to get it back in? So close! Thank you

    • @babydogpiranha9978
      @babydogpiranha9978 Před 2 lety +4

      Well .. it does go back in BUT I might not have Sals Midas touch. - the new Denso Alternator was a RCH wider at the bolt holes than the one that came out. I measured them both out of exasperation. Ordinarily insignificant, but the space tolerances on this alternator hack are extreme. There are other videos of people taking a huge amount of material off the top bolt holes to compensate for this but it is unnecessary. I took a bastard file to it and then some fine sand paper and polished the hell out of the sharp edges. Ever so slightly rounded off the edges on the bolt holes, but not enough to cause an improper fit. I also took about 1/32 of an inch off of the ridge on the funky base plate that sits between the alternator and the pump that impedes the lower bolt hole from popping into the right position. All of this - then you just have to start shaking it back and forth with a twisting motion with enough force for the hood to come down on your head twice, swear at it a few times and it really does just pop in at some point. Did save a ton of money and I now know I need to replace the hood support struts. Was worth the struggle and saved around 2K even after buying a few new tools and popping in the new aluminum charge pipe. Thank you Sal. She's good to go for the last two weeks and no issues.

      I just did this job on my car. Whole thing was done in under an hour. Putting it in was easier than taking it out, and taking it out was easy.
      When you put it in you will likely need a small hammer (rubber preferably) or something to gently tap the alternator in place. It’s quite easy.
