My daughter was taken away from me, and I had just moved from Texas to South Dakota to start my life over. When I left TX, I was broke, unemployed, homeless, living in the streets and hooked on drugs. It was a very tough time for me. 24 years later, I’m off drugs for over 20 years, owned my home for 18 years, have a great job and recently started singing in 2 bands. Never sang or been in a band before last Oct. I’m a whole different person, now. Thank you again, for this!! Your videos are my some of favorite parts of my days! Another song with tons of meaning from this time is Warmth by Incubus. Please check that one out, too. I’d love to see your reaction!!

What I take from this song is the importance of being mindful of the impact we have on the lives of others. Don't make people waste their precious time by treating them bad, or stringing them along, or by being indecisive about whether you want them in your life or not. Their time is valuable, and you don't want to be the person who made someone feel the way described in this song.
Chester actually had some words regarding that, when asked in an interview what the worst thing he ever stole was:
"What's the worst thing I've stolen? Probably little pieces of other people's lives. Where I've either wasted their time or hurt them in some way. That's the worst thing you can steal, the time of other people. You just can't get that back."
I would recommend their song "The Messenger" for something slightly uplifting, but deeply emotional.

I remember being a teenager and dealing with...so much. I had bad an**exia until I was 24. I thank God, my family...and even bands like Linkin Park for getting me through some of the darkest times in my life. More recently, I lost my mum to cancer and watching these again but also watching reactions such as yours have truly helped out more than you'll ever know. So, thank you!! ❤

This came out around the time I was 20 and began my journey of self depreciation and self mutilation. I cut my arms and legs up to release the pain. Numerous trips to psychiatric clinics and rehabs really didn't help; it's the other patients that I spent time with , we helped each other. Nearly 10 years of this. I met a girl that went to my high school (10 yrs earlier) and we got together but that didnt last long as she was killed in a car wreck two months later. I then met my Rosie and 11 yr old daughter and they brightened my Iife up, slowly. continued to drink and cut my wrist, arms, legs, family all but bailed until I finally almost did myself in. I realized I would be leaving behind my wife (we been together now 13 yrs) and daughter (Im not her real father but I been there since she was 11 now she's 24). I dont want to leave them behind nor my family. I havent cut my arm since 2013. When I hear this song, I cry, as Im doing typing this right now. I cry because the memories of what I caused my mom to see and also because I'm happy that I got away from that kind of thinking. I really dont know why I ever did it. The scars are somewhat faded now, but still there. As crazy as it may seem, I never want them to fully go away becauae they serve as a reminder. Like he said, though, all that I ever did to harm myself, in the end, it doesn't even matter.

Most people might not know the band took those chorus lyrics from a boy’s note he left before committing an act of violence. But of course the band wasn’t condoning what he did, just showing the defeat and despair he felt. Chester’s passing was awful and too common for people of traumatic backgrounds.

That note was left behind the same year that the song came out so I'm pretty sure that LP didn't use the lyrics. I think it was the other way around.
That’s not the story I heard, but looking up dates, the song was released in 2000 while the shooting took place in 2001. Therefore, yes, the lyrics weren’t a quote and the story I heard was wrong.
@@matthewgoodA1206 I only knew that particular story about the note from a different reaction I had seen. He read the article about it with the dates.
