Yes, it takes on a whole new meaning as an adult. As a child I just thought it sounded cool. But as an adult when life always tells you to buy more, hustle more, and then you’ll be somebody, I am glad to know God’s value system is so different than the one of the world. I’m happy living a simple life with my family. I’d love to have more money, but if it never comes, I’m rich in love and values.
I can't tell if Jethro is the ideal father, grandfather, uncle, or father-in-law. I just know that he's the kind of man everyone would want in their lives.
1:42 “A lake of gold in the desert sand is less than a cool fresh spring, and to one lost sheep, a shepherd boy is greater than the richest king” A great line about how you don’t need to have everything in order to have what you need. My favorite line from the song.
What a beautiful movie this is. A little background info for those who are interested, just things that make this movie even better: Jeffrey Katzenberg, the founder of Dreamworks, while working for Disney, has always wanted to do a Bible adaptation, but the then leader of Disney did not want that. So Katzenberg, instead of abandoning his idea, and after growing more disillusioned with Disney, took the first opportunity after creating Dreamworks to create this adaptation. He consulted both Christian and Muslim theologians to make sure it turned out as accurate and great as possible, and these theologians worked together to help create this work of art. He never cared how much the film will make, he wanted to see his vision become reality and he set out to make it one, no matter what. This was a project made out of pure love and not an ounce of greed, and THIS is why it has become such a legendary piece. I'm grateful he saw the project through so we could enjoy it even after 23, almost 24 YEARS!
"If a man lose everything he owns, has he truly lost his worth? Or is it the beginning of a new and brighter birth?" Remember this line, because we will endure hardships, all of us. But always remember that, with God, nothing is impossible. Nothing!
God doesn't exist. The fact that there are still buffoons still openly spouting their nonsense, shows how the internet opening up to the masses the way it did really did a number.
0:21 It's pretty simple and short, but I really like how the camera shifts to show Tzipporah's expression after Moses humbles himself to Jethro, saying that he's done nothing in his life worth honoring. I like to imagine it as an eye-opening experience for her. She has this image of Moses constructed in her mind of this spoiled and entitled Egyptian prince, but all it takes is that one self-reflective comment that he makes and you can see that she's left having to completely rethink her perspective of his character. It's a small detail, but I think it's underrated.
Just what I wanted to say! It's such a small thing but it shows why she started and changed towards him. Even maybe a bit regrets being so harsh to him. I really love it!
@@NoriMori1992 she is like "wait, you what!?!?" Then we see time fly. From her just tossing the staff at him like "get to work, Moses" at the sheep. Then later she seems softer with him. We see his facial hair's grown and skin darkened from the sun. Its a great story telling through visual aid. That over time she see's him as just a man, not a spoilt brat. And when he hands her his staff with the flowers to propose, its sweet.
This scene always gets me, “you must learn to join the dance” someone who struggles with social anxiety I resonate with those words, this scene captures beautifully that all it really takes is to get out of your shell and be with the people you love and be yourself, joining the dance, and you can find a-lot of joy through that
Boy, as someone who saw this exact scenario play out in real life, this comment shatters my very core. Makes me think of all the opportunities I've lost.
yesss! especially the line “and though you never know all the steps…” because you have to do things in life without knowing how and just trust yourself it will be ok
That's the trick. Realizing that no one, regardless of their social and emotional wellbeing, knows all the steps. You can spend a lot of time learning and trying to adjust your perceptions and beliefs about yourself, but the only way to truly grow is to start experiencing life firsthand. That's the true catalyst for positive change. Granted, it's easier said than done with people who have more debilitating conditions, but the core idea still holds true.
When was little I always skipped past the part where Moses tried to eat the fruit before...allowed I guess? Mostly because I got such second embarrassment for it.
This film does something most Biblical films fail to do -- it humanizes Moses. He struggles to build a new life for himself, he finds himself serving a God he barely knows, and he is genuinely conflicted over the things that God does. He even still retains respect and love for his brother the Pharoah even though he knows his heart is hard and his stubbornness leading to unimaginable pain and suffering. Now if someone would only make a film that does the same justice to Jesus...
the film ends on a depressing note too. He gets the commandments. And we all know what happens next when he returns to the camp of the Hebrew's he just saved. They are whoring, worshipping other God's, drinking, gorging, blaspheming. And God, the merciful deity that he is "Smite! Smite! Smite!!!"
@Azguard Mike 2013 Well they were given a 2nd chance after such act. What set a nail in their fate except Joshua and Caleb was their refusal to conquer the promised land out of fear towards the gigantic inhabitants
@@solomonobihan9465 True, but as Mick Jagger so clearly pointed out he had many "moments of doubt and pain". Imagine being a 30-year-old day laborer and part-time rabbi finding out that he was actually much more than he ever believed he could be and had a mission to save not just Israel but all Mankind. It was such a shocking discovery that it was little wonder he went into the wilderness to figure out what to do next.
The entire soundtrack to this movie is just so epically emotive. Deliver Us is tragic, desperate, with the beautiful ending note of love and hope. All I Ever Wanted deceives you ripping you out of your comfort zone with a paradigm shift. Heaven's Eyes embraces you and then uplifts you. Playing With The Big Boys amuses and frustrates you. Plagues terrifies you and rips that hope away. When You Believe pulls you out of your unsteadiness to pure joy and love. Seriously, I go on an emotional rollercoaster every time I hear them. This movie is a masterpiece.
I feel like it was a bit uneven, with the over-the-top chariot race and silly Egyptian wizards and stuff taking away from the majesty of many other parts. But when it's good, it's great.
I'm autistic, 22, have severe depression, have never had a girlfriend, & am a victim of severe cyber bullying. I've doubted my self worth more than anyone. This song is inspirational to me.

These songs are so much more deep and beautiful than modern disney songs. Not to mentioned their voices aren’t heavily altered to be painfully smooth and “perfect”. A voice that sounds real with real qualities sounds so much nicer.
I agree! And about the voice altering, im glad they showed the beauty of his voice without unrealistic editing. It gives more meaning to the song in my opinion .
@@arianna1906 but DreamWorks has gone as godless as Disney... This was magnificent for it being Biblical, there's a sense of majesty felt in anything of His people, ngl
I'm so glad and proud that I knew this movie before people started watching this during the pandemic. It was actually my comfort movie when I was such a tiny kid. And the thing what I like about this movie, is no matter what your religion or believes are, you can still enjoy this movie. It's so beautiful 😭
Thats the beauty of this movie it can be watched 1,000,000 times and never gets old also even though heaven’s eyes is my least favorite song i still enjoy every song is great (my favorite song is all i ever wanted because i can sort of relate to what moses was going through)
This is one of the best transitional songs because despite it perhaps being quick with showing Moses' progress, it does do so in a powerful and entertaining way with the brilliant voice of Brian Stokes Mitchell singing that fabulous song. It's a great testemant to the brotherhood and friendship formed by strong faith and how what a man is worth is hardly the physical things upon earth and how one is capable of redemption no matter what that person has done
I was about to write this! It's a great transition, especially when the song is about viewing one's life through "heaven's eyes" - in other words, seeing the greater picture of your life and how it connects to everything else. Thus how much we see Moses' life progress in these 3 minutes (which, in the movie, of course, is probably several years) connects with the message of the song - all of these little moments that we see of Moses' life with these people over several years are part of a greater picture. And it's all so fluid and well done that the audience barely even questions how several years progress in 3 minutes! (Technically in the bible he stays with Jethro for around 40 years, but, obviously they didn't want that much of a time gap in the movie.)
I love how GENUINE Jethro's singing is. You can FEEL the absolute PASSION in his soul as he sings, because he KNOWS that what he's saying is more valuable to Moses than anything that's ever been spoken to him by man, and his heart cannot contain it. The final verse always shakes me; the way he's singing isn't just a song - this song is a prayer, a PSALM. His faith is so STRONG, steadfast, and true. He will never give up his God for anything. You can hear the goodness in his heart echoing through each word, and you suddenly feel welcomed, brought home. You're family now. THAT'S how God's Word is supposed to make you feel. Magnificent performance. ❤
My favorite part of this Song is the added detail of Moses enjoying dancing but he dosent know how maybe he thinks he'll embarrass himself or is just bad but he likes it and we see him be awkward and nervous while dancing BUT when he gets married he's so happy and full of love and joy he starts dancing with his now wonderful wife just a lovely little detail
The impressive thing about this scene is that you don't even realize how much time skip they did in less than 4 minutes. By visual cue, it is implied that many years had passed since Moses first attended that bonfire dance. The writers need to get Moses back to Egypt as quickly as possible (because, you know, that iconic scene), but they must also give him enough time in the tribe to experience an emotional transformation. Now consider you only have less than 4 minutes to do that as a writer/animator, how are you going to do that while weaving a musical sequence into the plot? I can see animation students going back to study this film even today.
Well in Exodus...Moses was 40 years old or so when he fled Egypt and spent another 40 in Midian. He was around 80 when he came back to free the Hebrews.
Whatever you do, don't be a downer towards that dude with a big beard, otherwise, he will give you the motivational lecture of the century; singing for months on end and continuing straight through your wedding ceremony whether you like it or not. I mean, seriously, his vocal chords have got to be shredded by now 0.o
Honestly this is what I think whenever movies age characters during songs like damn guys it'd better be a good song if you're gonna do that for years on end
When my wife left me, I lost it all. My money. My credit was shot. I lost friends. But in my season of isolation, I realized in my solitude I still had more than most men could ever have. Now I have been delivered out of it, and the Lord has blessed me more than I could ever know.
This song has been what's kept me going these past several weeks.. I don't know my path, I don't know where I'll end up, but that's okay, because I'm the single thread in the most beautiful tapestry ever in existence.
Keep going. Keep trying. Something greater is on the horizon. I'm not religious and I won't claim to be...but I will say, have faith that things will get better. Sometimes we must struggle and fall down to learn a lesson that will build us up again. We just have to be willing to listen to what life or the universe is trying to tell us. Don't fight the forces. There's a saying that if you make plans and no matter what, everything seems to go bad (it rains, it's too cold, flat tire, etc etc), it's the universe keeping you from a terrible fate. Listen to it. You are seen and loved and cared for, and I send only positive vibes and energy your way. I hope it finds you well and you find yourself smiling soon, from ear to ear. Take care, remember to breathe, don't forget to really LIVE, and stay safe. ♥ Lots of love ^_^
I haven't seen this movie in over 15 years and I'm already getting teary eyed and swept away by the same magic I felt as a child :') What a masterpiece
This somehow always ends up making me cry. I love this positivity, the singing and the dancing, this happiness that comes from loving your life even if it is simple and not at all extraordinary. I adore the overall message, and it just makes me feel so much better about my own life and choices. I'm not deeply religious, if at all, but still, this is one of those few things that make me see the world differently.
"And to one lost sheep a shepherd boy is greater than the richest king." As a born-again Christian this lyric hits different. I was a lost sheep, and the Good Shepherd found me and saved me, and He is the King of Kings, but to me, He is the most important person in my life
@@-chenlanying5818 The one who protects you and leads you back to safety is greater to you than some distant ruler no matter how more powerful that ruler may be.
@Doppelganger D So much of the Old Testament points to Jesus Christ and the people of the New Testament are aware of that, the majority of His followers at the start were Jewish after all and all that wrote the Bible are Jews part from Saint Luke. It's a whole story that ----> Jesus 👑
as an atheist, it's often bugged me how people go "this is really good despite being a bible movie", or something to that effect. There is no "but" about this movie. The bible has epic stories that have a point for the believers, and this movie would NOT be as good if it didn't take that religiousness seriously. This movie is moving BECAUSE it's about faith. Whether or not I believe doesn't matter. I enjoy seeing other people's beliefs (I actually love the Hindu faith the best because their stories and gods feel so human to me), and if Moses means this much to people, then how can you NOT be moved?
Agreed. Watched this as a kid from a religious point of view, and came back it with a non-religious one. Even with those changes, I still love the message of the story. It's always going to be my all-time favorite biblical film.
evilhopscotch also its one of the only movies that consulted various religions before making it, not only one. Im not religious and i know Its a great movie amazing actually, its also very historically accurate!
evilhopscotch That was one of the most moving things I’ve ever read. Makes my lil’ Christian heart flutter! You should seriously think about reviewing films and books!
I have a gigantic amount of respect for the ancient greek myths because of the lectures on human nature you find in them. Of course i, as a non-believer, have also a gigantic respect for the stories of the judeo-christian faith! They are more than just “stories”, even as metaphors they have really deep meanings and commentary on the human condition! Heck, the hole story of moses can be seen as a tale of hope among dozens and dozens of meanings... it’s simply fantastic and incredibly entertaining to think about this stories

@@fishinasuit9597 always the same… also love how it’s always like “oh you don’t belief anymore? Here’s reasons to believe quotes from the EXACT thing you just said you don’t believe in anymore” like..😂
I'm an atheist, and I still love this song. It's just such a beautiful song about perspective. It may use the lens of religion, but it's really talking about being aware of your own value, of what you can be to other people, and how we can all contribute to a better world. EDIT: Folks, me saying I'm an atheist is not an invitation for you to preach at me.
You have very good insight. Mind if i share a moment of your time? I AM a Christian, also I use the bible to show myself how to treat other people it's difficult to understand but is also a very useful book.
Well the entire point is that the perspective you need is one of godly origin. As the song said, a human can only see one string and never the entire tapestry. A million humans can only see a million strings and still not the tapestry. You can gather millions and billions of strings and all you will see are repeating patterns on a pile of strings. You will never know what a tapestry is because you don't acknowledge that the strings are a piece of decoration being hung on a wall. You need to acknowledge that there is a wall in the first place and your tapestry is only beautiful because it sits over a wall. An atheist that does not believe in a wall, in a god, will never know what a tapestry is because all you will see is an expanse of woven strings you can't even see the edge of.
I’m not a fully fledged christian, even though I have always went to church, and I love always been worried about being late. But I didn’t go once since I was sick, twice because someone else got sick. Anyway, I’ve watched this movie again today, and my brother who also hasn’t seen it in a long time, recited the lyrics to the songs of the movie. Even this one, and me and him were happy to watch it again. So even though you’d not really be particularly involved in religion(I’m sorry if I assumed), you can even be welcomed. And that’s what this song is likely about.
I'd like to add that this song shows how we can never see ourselves as God sees us- once we repent and are forgiven, He truly sees us as His children: imperfect but loved. He knows how valuable we are to Him, and though we fail to see it, His purpose for us is so, so important. We must also look through Heaven's eyes in order to see how He works through those around us. ❤
Some of my most cherished memories were going to the few Jewish celebrations I've had the pleasure of attending. There's nothing like the joy you experience when you're at them. The dancing is thrilling, the music is enchanting, and the love in the room cannot be contained.
I've had the pleasure of attending Passover Seder at a Messianic Jewish church. As well as hearing the story of Esther read aloud. The joy and community of the people can simply not be contained and it takes on a new tone with them knowing in their hearts that their Messiah really has come for them. As though all their long history of suffering and hard labor has truly been worth it. One of the church members is even old enough to remember living in East Germany. Her family escaped the Holocaust only to live through that nightmare. She is just blind in her joy though. Whatever new thing comes over the horizon, she knows that it's all taken care of.
@Robert Lombardo messianic Jews are not Jews and they just appropriate all our rituals and customs then twist them to make them Christian. It is disgusting. Next time try and see if you can be invited to a Jewish seder not a bastardized version of it
@@rowan-m8850nope, it's fulfillment. The Pharisees missed it, the temple was destroyed, and the Gentiles had to take up the mantle of prophet and priesthood to the Nations. Now we get to see God's glory and miracles, God has personally healed my body overnight in the name of Jesus/Yeshua ❤ and of course the Jews that turned back to him and away from man's traditions, and receive the Messiah
This song makes me tear up! Ive been going through so much and this helps me just see my problems as temporary . The part that talks about losing everything being the birth of a new life really got me. I hope if you are struggling today, or any day this song finds you. I will remind myself to look at my life through Heavens eyes!
I love the scene where Moses and Tzipporah are talking to Jethro and Tzipporah seems to argue with Jethro, and then Jethro just shrugs and hugs them both. We know that Moses and Tzipporah were asking permission to get married, but the scene still makes you wonder what they were specifically saying. XD
"A single thread in a tapestry though its colour brightly shine, could never see its purpose in the pattern of the grand design" such an important line
I just finished rewatching this movie and continue to love it. Something I liked was that Ramses was never truly evil, rather it was that he was so guided by Egyptian tradition that he ignored any sense of personal virtue, unless it was solely about Moses.
I remember watching this movie in class when I was eight. I remember being deeply moved by the movie, to the point that I started sobbing. The entire class turned their heads, wondering why I was crying. Good times XD
@@adamandeveourfirstparents4709 Every movie is about someone who is not us... why does it matter if it is Moses or Simba from the Lion King being portrayed? Does the Lion King leave no impact because you are not inheriting the throne of the jungle?
@@adamandeveourfirstparents4709 Yes and the story of Moses is based on religious beliefs, but the way this movie is made isn't so forced and unrealistic. it shows emotions for how they are, and that Bible characters are human too. They feel doubt and worry just like the rest of us. You can also see Moses finding his self worth and purpose throughout the film, like a lot of people struggle with themselves. It shows you can always redeem yourself and find your path in life. It gives multiple messages that you can use in life (for ex: finding self love) that can stick with people and impact them besides the typical "follow God now or you'll burn" type of forced message a lot of legalistic religious people push. Even the Biblical references used can be tied to every day life lessons and can give you a different perspective to life. So for it to impact everyone, no matter who or what they believe in, is a blessing!
Powerful message. Don’t measure your worth or anyone else’s by what they own or have accomplished. See your value as God does … created in His own image!
3:04 What I imagine they are saying - Moses: "I ask for your permission to marry your daughter" Zipporah: "You told me to find the perfect man" Jethro: "Can´t argue with that" :)
"You can never see through the eyes of man. Look at your life though heaven eyes." That's just beautiful. Money doesn't make your life successful or fulfilling. Doing the right thing even at your own expense does.
One of the most beautiful sequences in a beautiful movie. Moses' entire life had been destroyed with the discovery that everything he'd believed was a lie- and now he gets to build a new one, with the aid of new friends and the woman he grows to love. You could almost make a entire movie out of the events of this montage alone.
This movie was the best way god entered my life fully this and Joseph King of dreams another great movie and without a doubt one song always makes me tear up and the song that does it is called "You know better than I" each of the lyrics hit my heartstrings in a good way.
How I imagine the conversation in the tent going Mosses "Jethro, I'm seeking your blessing to marry your daughter." Zipporah "And don't go objecting now, Father!" Jethro: "Object?! I thought you'd never ask!" *hugs*
I love how this movie uses visual representation to show emotions and scenes that despite not having spoken words you can still figure out what they're saying. It's body language wich is surprisingly accurate and effective language it speaks more then words can ever translate
Never knew how profound the lyrics were to all these songs as a child. Now when i hear them and actually listen I can't help but tear up a bit. The need to create more work like this.
Prince of Egypt wouldn't be made in today's world, and the realization is oh so saddening. This movie tells a compelling story that takes the source material it is derived from and treats it with respect. In turn, creating a masterpiece that can be enjoyed by all regardless of their faith/religion. I doubt we will ever go back to movies that actually decide to tell mature stories and lessons towards younger audiences. But one can hope...

I have a friend of whom I met over the Internet. We have spoken for a long long time & one day he felt like he was loosing his battle with depression. He told me his life had no meaning and I showed him this song and I told him to listen. He is an atheist and I a Christian. He came back a few minutes later and felt much better. It gave him hope. Years later, I lost my older brother to an OD. I was, and still am devastated. One day, I felt myself slipping away (if you know what I mean) and to distract myself I went on CZcams. On my recommended list was "Through Heaven's Eyes". I decided to watch it and needless to say, my eyes were opened to how my life plays a role in the Lord's plan. I love this song just so much.
Keep on fighting for others and the beautiful gift God gave you which is life, bro. That is amazing! We need more people to follow your example. Maybe, the United States would become actually unified and stop all of the craziness that's happening now. God bless you!

When I first saw this movie I was in a very bad head space A lot of bad things happened to me at a young age and I was at a friends house to escape and she turned this on and when this song ended I started crying because I thought my life was gonna be awful but my friend and this song changed my life forever
wow, that's actually kind of amazing, music can be really powerful and perfect sometimes. I really hope things are going better for you and even though this might be a song from a 'kid's movie' that you remember that these lyrics are definitely true for you too, whoever you are
THIS.....THIS is why I will ALWAYS celebrate the smallest of victories. I have never come from much. I'm better off than some, worse than others. But I know what it is to have nothing and to struggle. Every good thing in life deserves to be celebrated, even mistakes, for they're proof of growth and learning. We are but a speck on this earth. Never demand life give you something. Be grateful always for what you have, no matter how little it may be. Give thanks for your life, for the struggles you possess and are moving through, because something bigger and brighter is coming your way. Keep pushing on, and smile, knowing that others have been there too. You're not alone. We are but a speck in the grand scheme of it all, but we can have such a lasting impact on this world. Don't fill your heart with hate. Forgive the ones that have wronged you, and above all else, forgive yourself. Learn to love, to see your life from the outside looking in. Whether you see it or not, you have something in your life that someone else envies. Treasure all that you can, while you can, because we are temporary beings and time is ever fleeting. And NEVER....EVER.....EVER....forget to LIVE. Laugh with your whole gut, with wild abandon. Dance and sing like no one is watching. Wave to a stranger that passes you, and enjoy the fruits of this world. I wish you all prosperity, love, forgiveness, hope, peace, and courage in the world. You are seen and loved!! ♥
it's why I love this movie... they stated they wanted the MESSAGE put through... you don't need a religion... just an open mind to being better... and this movie offers a PERSPECTIVE... not a "follow me or die" perspective like today's ISIS or the pasts Egyptian pharaohs for servitude... no religion or belief is ever perfect... why we must embrace as much as we can
I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. Watched it over and over. My grandma owned this on DVD and borrowed all the time. It amazed me that a story I grew up knowing could be made into such a pretty movie. Now being older I understand the meanings and art put together so that this movie could be made. That what makes it such a masterpiece, it appeals to children because it's a easily understood film, but also appeals to older people because of its symbolism and story. I'm happy to have grown up knowing this movie, and loving it even then.
Praise be to the Lord. Today I had a difficult day, I was very depressed and depressed. But already with training hard in Karate and getting here to listen to this I already feel better and I restore my faith giving me a lot of hope to improve and achieve what I want
The part that ALWAYS hits me is the “ the stone that sits atop of the mountains mighty face doesn’t think it’s better than the one that forms it’s base , so how can you know what your life is worth or where your value lies if you can’t see your life through heavens eyes“ As someone who is always too hard on myself feeling like a constant screw up because I’m not as far along as where I want to be in life has me depressed until this lyric hit.. who am I to say I haven’t made any impact on others or that I wouldn’t be missed if I was gone. Sometimes you have to look outside your self and see yourself how others see you , while I may not think my life is all that great others around me who say I’ve changed their life would disagree. Life really is what you choose to make of it , if you only feed your brain negative thoughts you’ll only experience negativity. I see this now !
I haven't listened to this song in over a year and I'm in tears as even though I'm agnostic all I can think is me now singing this song to my younger suicidal self with "heaven" meaning those who I care about, love, or have a small part to play in their life. "How can you judge what a man is worth through your eyes on earth, look through heavens (others) eyes" I'm so glad that I decided to stay around and should stop drunkenly commenting
yea man this song is so powerful. Also some orthodox hymns. i dont believe in any god but i believe the collective human love is gathered in these songs
Hey man. You may not be sure of God, but He is still glad that you stayed around too. And so are all the rest of us! It's true we're not promised an easy life, but I know we're promised a perfect afterlife if we trust in God to deliver us from sin. The evidence is out there, but the answer is closer than you think! 😉 God bless!
The opening line of the song gave me so much hope and promise as a kid whenever I was feeling like I wasn't useful. I remember all throughout middle school when I felt worthless I reminded myself that I'm like the single thread and God sees my purpose and knows my worth. Corny and weird I know but that basically explains me as a child and now.
Ever since I heard this song I've been obsessed with Brian Stokes Mitchell looking for youtube clips of him singing and I found the best performance of Impossible Dream I've ever heard.
This song always makes me cry as someone who often feels I have no purpose and am completely useless. I relate so much to Moses when he says "i have done nothing in my life worth honoring" .
The older I get, the more I cry at this song.
I cry every time !!!
Same, the meaning of the words hold more relevance
Yes, it takes on a whole new meaning as an adult. As a child I just thought it sounded cool. But as an adult when life always tells you to buy more, hustle more, and then you’ll be somebody, I am glad to know God’s value system is so different than the one of the world. I’m happy living a simple life with my family. I’d love to have more money, but if it never comes, I’m rich in love and values.
@@ayodari_style Amen to that!

“A lake of gold in the desert sand is less than a cool fresh spring, and to one lost sheep, a shepherd boy is greater than the richest king”

What a beautiful movie this is.
A little background info for those who are interested, just things that make this movie even better:
Jeffrey Katzenberg, the founder of Dreamworks, while working for Disney, has always wanted to do a Bible adaptation, but the then leader of Disney did not want that.
Yeah, and then Disney fought to buy out dreamwork to stop him, and eventually did buy out dreamworks, what a disgusting shame!
By "leader of Disney," you mean Michael Eisner, right? The feud between those two is legendary.
@@Jurgan6 I don't know who it was exactly, just that he was the head of disney at the time
He also consulted Jews not just Christians and Muslims
Just missing historians...

"If a man lose everything he owns, has he truly lost his worth? Or is it the beginning of a new and brighter birth?"
Remember this line, because we will endure hardships, all of us. But always remember that, with God, nothing is impossible. Nothing!
God doesn't exist. The fact that there are still buffoons still openly spouting their nonsense, shows how the internet opening up to the masses the way it did really did a number.
I really needed to read a comment like this
Amen!
At the end of the game the Pawn and the King go into the same box!
One ending is another beginning. The transition is guided by the power of perspective.
Never noticed that.
Astute observation.
I noticed that!! I'm so glad someone else noticed it too
This scene always gets me, “you must learn to join the dance” someone who struggles with social anxiety I resonate with those words, this scene captures beautifully that all it really takes is to get out of your shell and be with the people you love and be yourself, joining the dance, and you can find a-lot of joy through that
Boy, as someone who saw this exact scenario play out in real life, this comment shatters my very core. Makes me think of all the opportunities I've lost.
yesss! especially the line “and though you never know all the steps…” because you have to do things in life without knowing how and just trust yourself it will be ok
What did the social edge people like me do to offence to the world, why should we responded the pain of this
Just shows life is a dance that we all join in time
That's the trick.
We all need a Jethro in our lives
and a Zipporah would be a good addition too.

Well said 100% Theres so many people on earth that need to here this.
truly, I wish more could see this
I was about to write this!
Amen
My favorite part of this Song is the added detail of Moses enjoying dancing but he dosent know how maybe he thinks he'll embarrass himself or is just bad but he likes it and we see him be awkward and nervous while dancing BUT when he gets married he's so happy and full of love and joy he starts dancing with his now wonderful wife just a lovely little detail
I always interpreted it more that he doesn't feel worthy of joining that community. Once he gets married, he feels like he can really join in.
Moses and Zipporah are adorable together.
@@quinna5537fr! What a power couple these two are❤
The impressive thing about this scene is that you don't even realize how much time skip they did in less than 4 minutes.
A lot better than Charlton Heston's comedic graying after the Burning Bush in the Ten Commandments.
Omg I agree

Not really for "animators" but certainly for screenwriters and directors, ESPECIALLY for post-production editors.

Ohh man this brings back memories of my child hood synagogue
@Robert Lombardo messianic Jews are not Jews and they just appropriate all our rituals and customs then twist them to make them Christian. It is disgusting.
Next time try and see if you can be invited to a Jewish seder not a bastardized version of it
@@robertlombardo8437 messianic "Judaism" is nothing more than appropriation.
"And though you never know the steps, you must learn to join the dance". That's powerful man
This song makes me tear up! Ive been going through so much and this helps me just see my problems as temporary . The part that talks about losing everything being the birth of a new life really got me. I hope if you are struggling today, or any day this song finds you. I will remind myself to look at my life through Heavens eyes!
Bless you Brianna
Agree :)
The ending scene where he looks at his wife, and you feel him feel gratitude to God for his life, absolutely beautiful.
XD
I'm pretty sure it would be something like "DUDE MARRY US OR I'LL LEAVE!!!"
"Thats why papa said shell never get married" hahahaha
When she points at him I think she was saying something to the extent of “you always say I should get married so here you go!”
Moses: *being very polite and not knowing how to approach this very importent man he respects*
Tzipora: "LiSTEN HERE WE'RE GOING TO GET MERRIED"
Probably something like “You thought I would never get married, but here we are”😂
Jethro: I APPROVE
"A single thread in a tapestry though its colour brightly shine, could never see its purpose in the pattern of the grand design" such an important line
This song is so optimistic it's contagious. It dismantles a lot of nihilistic opinions with the simple fact of "that matters on your perspective"
I just finished rewatching this movie and continue to love it. Something I liked was that Ramses was never truly evil, rather it was that he was so guided by Egyptian tradition that he ignored any sense of personal virtue, unless it was solely about Moses.
Solely focused on his fathers footsteps
@@LJWW1998 exactly
I’m 30 and I understand it now more then ever
I remember watching this movie in class when I was eight. I remember being deeply moved by the movie, to the point that I started sobbing. The entire class turned their heads, wondering why I was crying. Good times XD
Now I'm not a religious person or even really a spiritual person but this movie and its music has always been something that has stuck with me
Why does that matter
@Adam and Eve our first parents bc it shows how good and impactful the movie is
@@bobbobbo5278 but the movie is all about the life of Moses lol
I just imagined them saying that 😂😂
I always imagine zipporah saying something like “you can’t stop me marrying the man i love”
We all need someone like Jethro in our lives.
Doesn't this song make you wish you had a 7 foot father figure with a comforting singing voice and a huge beard
If I may be just half the man of Jethro for my family, then I will have lived a life blessed with love.
"You can never see through the eyes of man. Look at your life though heaven eyes." That's just beautiful. Money doesn't make your life successful or fulfilling. Doing the right thing even at your own expense does.
I'm not religious nor spiritual in any way, but this song is perfectly beautiful.
nor I. but this movie Is one of favorites.
The Immortal No thanks
***** Thank you for these beautiful words. If we had more people like you around the world would be a much better place.
+Grace Smith,
I am the same (please no hate) and this is the coolest song I have ever heard! :)
This mans voice sends shivers down my spine simply amazing so powerful
It’s so full and expansive and full of mirth and joy. This was a phenomenal vocal performance.
This song never fails to moisten my eyeballs. Never in all the years. Everytime.
Same here! :)
Looking back... This song was my first introduction to God... This movie did its job and then some.
This movie was the best way god entered my life fully this and Joseph King of dreams another great movie and without a doubt one song always makes me tear up and the song that does it is called "You know better than I" each of the lyrics hit my heartstrings in a good way.
I absolutely love this sequence.
I lold so hard when Moses and Zipporah are in the tent talking to Jethro about getting married and he's just like lol okay why not.
How I imagine the conversation in the tent going
Mosses "Jethro, I'm seeking your blessing to marry your daughter."
Zipporah "And don't go objecting now, Father!"
Jethro: "Object?! I thought you'd never ask!" *hugs*
Wholesome😌
Lol. I can see it as well
I love how this movie uses visual representation to show emotions and scenes that despite not having spoken words you can still figure out what they're saying. It's body language wich is surprisingly accurate and effective language it speaks more then words can ever translate
That's exactly how that conversation went, and no one will ever change my mind about it.
This song and part of the movie gives me chills every time I see it. Can’t help but dance and sing along
I feel that regardless of whether or not you're religious, this song is quite inspirational.
ya cause most of what the priest sings is not solely wise for Jews or Christians but wisdom and philosophy for all mankind :)
Amen to that. Like the song says, you can't judge someone's value by their material items, they should be valued by their character and morals.
teddy9063 Yeah I see it as a song all about keeping things in perspective.
Christianity is not a religion, it's Gods words in fact Jesus hated religion!
Her dance at 2:37 is so beautiful
It's so smooth and just...UGH I'm in love
Something about Moses staring into his love’s eyes as he sings “look at your life through heaven’s eyes” is just so sweet
I love how Jethro just shrugs and hugs them both!
Still one of my favorite childhood movie songs. Really hits harder now that I'm an adult and experienced something like Moses, minus the killing part.
Never knew how profound the lyrics were to all these songs as a child. Now when i hear them and actually listen I can't help but tear up a bit. The need to create more work like this.
+prettypinkpuffpuff Do you know the Salvation Plan, and Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord?
When the song starts after his verse, I IMMEDIATELY start dancing. I miss the 90's ♡

"I have done nothing in my life worth honoring" what a man
Prince of Egypt wouldn't be made in today's world, and the realization is oh so saddening.
Even I wish DreamWorks made their own Nativity animated musical
The fact that he still kept the ring that Ramses gave him shows that deep in his hearth he still loved him
considering this film was made in 1998, they did one hell of a job.
"A lake of gold in the desert sand is less than cool fresh spring.
And to a lost sheep a shepherd boy is greater than the richest king."
I love those lyrics.
A single thread in the tapestry
Though it's color brightly shine
Can never see it's purpose
In the pattern of the grand design
And the stone that sits on the very top
Of the mountain's mighty face
Does it think it's more important
Than the stones that formed the base?
So how can you see
What your life is worth
Or where your value lies?
You can never see through the eyes of man
You must look at your life
Look at your life through heaven's eyes.

If a man lose everything he owns
Has he truly lost his worth?
Or is it the beginning
Of a new and brighter birth?
So how do you measure the worth of a man
In wealth, or strength or size?
In how much he gained
Or how much he gave?
The answer will come
The answer will come to him who tries
To look at his life through heaven's eyes
And that's why we share we have with you
Though there's little to be found
When all you've got is nothing
There's a lot to go around
No life can escape being blown about
By the winds of change and chance
And though you never know all the steps
You must learn to join the dance
YOU MUST LEARN TO JOIN THE DANCE

So how do you judge what a man is worth?
By what he builds or buys?
You can never see with your eyes on Earth
Look through heaven's eyes
Look at your life, look at your life
Look at your life through HEAVEN'S EYES!!!
Beautiful
The way I would edit lyrics is honestly way more detail than the 'average ' person.
"How do you judge what a man is worth by what he builds or buys" this made me cry and do a lot of thinking
A criminally UNDERRATED masterpiece! How is this gem not talked about more!
Bless you, luv. :3
Keep on fighting for others and the beautiful gift God gave you which is life, bro. That is amazing! We need more people to follow your example. Maybe, the United States would become actually unified and stop all of the craziness that's happening now. God bless you!
+Donavan Boykin One can only hope that the racism, stereotyping and violence that plagues our country stops soon. Unfortunately I don't think it plans to.
God bless you.
God bless you man! I have faith that you will continue to live a great life, brining God to those who don't know Him.
How I wish they will still consider producing this type of movie. This movie's GOLD!
Leonard Shelby they also made one about Joseph. Btw👍
It's not PC enough nowadays.
Odessa Cornwell Sadly, that one wasn't nearly as entertaining.
When I first saw this movie I was in a very bad head space A lot of bad things happened to me at a young age and I was at a friends house to escape and she turned this on and when this song ended I started crying because I thought my life was gonna be awful but my friend and this song changed my life forever
Now this comment will make me cry lol
That is beautiful man. We will keep our heads up in these days! 😭
wow, that's actually kind of amazing, music can be really powerful and perfect sometimes. I really hope things are going better for you and even though this might be a song from a 'kid's movie' that you remember that these lyrics are definitely true for you too, whoever you are
I'm glad you are doing better now
THIS.....THIS is why I will ALWAYS celebrate the smallest of victories. ♥
Thank you my friend I am humbled by your words 🙏
I'm not religious but the song gets me every single time. It fills me with a feeling of happiness, sadness and joy all mixed into one.
You say you are not religious bit your feelings betray you.
My dad was very religious and it reminds
me of him, I think. :)
To be honest I'm atheist and I agree 100%! It's amazing how one movie can change your emotions like crazy! :D
it's why I love this movie... they stated they wanted the MESSAGE put through... you don't need a religion... just an open mind to being better... and this movie offers a PERSPECTIVE... not a "follow me or die" perspective like today's ISIS or the pasts Egyptian pharaohs for servitude... no religion or belief is ever perfect... why we must embrace as much as we can
This is a RELIGOUS movie in general and this meaning meaning is about looking at what heaven or GOD values.
I like how they use his beard growing to show the passage of time. That is clever.
even reading the Scripture it is based on, real hard to tell the passage of time
this movie did a service
The part that ALWAYS hits me is the “ the stone that sits atop of the mountains mighty face doesn’t think it’s better than the one that forms it’s base , so how can you know what your life is worth or where your value lies if you can’t see your life through heavens eyes“
As someone who is always too hard on myself feeling like a constant screw up because I’m not as far along as where I want to be in life has me depressed until this lyric hit.. who am I to say I haven’t made any impact on others or that I wouldn’t be missed if I was gone.
Sometimes you have to look outside your self and see yourself how others see you , while I may not think my life is all that great others around me who say I’ve changed their life would disagree.
Life really is what you choose to make of it , if you only feed your brain negative thoughts you’ll only experience negativity. I see this now !
Brings back memories. Man I’ve done so much in my life. I gotta look at my life how God attended it to be.
Moses looks pretty good for an 80 year old.
Moses is smooth af
Tarty haha right! 😂
No swearing on my Christian roblox server, please
The opening line of the song gave me so much hope and promise as a kid whenever I was feeling like I wasn't useful. I remember all throughout middle school when I felt worthless I reminded myself that I'm like the single thread and God sees my purpose and knows my worth. Corny and weird I know but that basically explains me as a child and now.
It's not corny, it's beautiful! :)
I’m Navajo, I don’t have any respect for the church, however I have so much love for this movie, it really was my childhood.
I’m not even religious and I can’t help but love this movie.
It genuinely hurts me that we'll probably never see movies like these made in a long time.
I’m 30 and I know how you feel. I’ve been driven to near insanity by the state of Post Pandemic Hollywood
Ever since I heard this song I've been obsessed with Brian Stokes Mitchell looking for youtube clips of him singing and I found the best performance of Impossible Dream I've ever heard.
Legend has it he's still singing to this very day.
im not even remotely religious, but this movie and music is incredible. definitely one of my favorites! every part was crafted so well.
This song always makes me cry as someone who often feels I have no purpose and am completely useless. I relate so much to Moses when he says "i have done nothing in my life worth honoring" .
yeah, I feel that
but even though these are lyrics from a 'kid's movie', I hope you remember they apply to you, just, as you.
:)
