I got my mother's stamp collection, she even has colombian ones because we're double nationality so these are from when she collected them. Colombia does not have a postage system anymore that's what makes them special. So that's the stamp fact. She has stored them by theme (cars, trains, public figures animals...), but there's a whole bunch that she bought but never got around unsticking them.
PS: she is alive and well she just stopped doing this and I thought it would be a nice gesture to do this fo her birthday.

You get special stamp drying books. I have a Desert Magic. It is worth while getting especially if you have stamps that are very thin or very old. On older stamps it might be worth preserving the cancelling marks - for instance fully legible cancels from war time, etc. Cut the stamp with the cancelling and keep as an item. Happy stamping everyone.
Warm or cold, neither works on Australian stamps. The gum seems to cling to
i wanted to do this to collect. What would be the grading level of the stamp if removed from an envelope?
I use warm water, you don’t have to wait 30 mins.. comes right off within 5 minutes.
They come off in 5 minutes in cold water too! I just did some tonight
I have several copies of a same stamp so I'll try both and come back to report.
ok nevermind I just used warm sink water, and for most papers and stamps as i was taking them off the water (which even ads more soaking time because I have a lot to unstick) anyways most of them as i was going through my container they were already entirely off the paper. Very easy. And If some of them need to be soaked longer I let them (some were on thicker paper)
Plain water does NOT work with self stick glues now found on most modern stamps. This technique only works for water activated glues. Also, always place the stamps FACE DOWN on the paper towel. Any residual glue on the back of the stamps will adhere them to the paper towels, and you will have to soak them again.
Dose this work with the newer self-adhesive stamps, or the peel-and-stick stamps? I don’t want to use this for the traditional non-self-adhesive stamp, or lick and stick.
In my recent experience, no, with British stamps.
Try Febreze air freshener.
Most collectors use stamp tongs rather than tweezers.
