This makes me feel so much better about my sketchbooks. All the other sketchbook tours are so perfect, unnaturally so, and when my book isn’t perfect (unfinished drawings, markers bleeding through) I feel like ripping some of the pages out because I can’t bring myself to appreciate it. Seeing how ok you were with all the little mistakes really helped.
thank you!! yes sketchbooks definitely don't have to be perfect and shouldn't and i think people get the wrong idea sometimes from youtube. there are absolutely no rules and no one way your sketchbook should look

I haven’t done a portfolio like this before but if you want to add some color in your sketchbook you could try colored pencils? Less stress over them bleeding through pages like ink, and could be nice to experiment with color, plus sketching with colored pencils feels next Level tbh

I havent really drawn anything in months and I wanna move away from solely depending on realism to more creative outputs of art and ur videos really inspire me to do that so thanks 😁
Drawing realisticly is actually the best way to start doing art. It's much easier developing your own style from there. It's a great way to learn proper anatomy, shading, positions etc. I wish I knew that when I first started.
@@optforthyname3800 however, it can also prove difficult especially if all you've ever known to draw is realism. Its kinda hard to stray away from realism if you're so used to the fundamentals, like how I always try to stylize my art but it just goes back to realism by the end.
@@mwcshk113 Maybe. But in my experience, as well as others, realism makes you understand anatomy, body movements, shadowing etc. In a way that makes it easier for you to then make a cartoony style that looks anatomicly correct and well put together. It might be as you say in some cases, but I don't suggest to draw hyper realism or very detailed and polished. Rather just learning the human form, shapes and shadowing.

how do you get your drawings so that they don’t smudge? every time i use graphite my drawings smudge a lot :(
You can spray them with a finish or cover them with any type of paper for example wax, tracing or even regular paper. Just tape it to wat ever page.

The drawings will smudge less just by using a book that isn't bound by spirals, since the pages dont shift.
try hairspray! always works for me sdhkshds
Apply fixatives to the drawing, it doesn't smudge after you apply it

You should start colouring some of your sketches. And if you dont like how it looks just cover it up with a collage and just draw on top of it. Easiest to start are of course coloured pencils, but i really like how markers and watercolors look so i always use those mediums.

That single still life cloth shows just how skilled you are but most artists don't give a shit about realism and want to make art that's fun. And your sketchbook is *fun* . I like your sketchbook a lot. It seems very relaxed and a collection of just thoughts and feels.

i randomly found this vid in my recommended and i wasn’t expecting your voice to be sooo deep
I do a lot of character design/illustration. It is so cool to see an artist w/ a completely different medium. Realism is something I always appreciate and try to capture, but I can never seem to grasp full throttle realism. I take anatomically correct aspects of art (skulls, muscles etc) and add an animated twist to them. Seeing just beautiful/whimsical realistic art is quite lovely!!

I always worry about my sketchbook cuz it's so messy and I write a lot of stuff, in Spanish and sometimes in English for practice. Mostly because I always watch videos where sketchbooks are really filled with pure art pieces and mine has some fails. So I love how your sketchbook kinda reminds me of mine with all those notes and things you write about your day:)
