- This is Part 3 of my lengthy interview with Chris Impellitteri, of the band IMPELLITTERI. In this portion of the interview we talk about Yngwie, Richie Blackmore, Jimi Bell, and who really were Chris' influences and who wasn't. We also talk about the evolution of Chris' style of playing and techniques he uses. His approach to pentatonic licks has changed, for example.

Finally! I've been waiting for the final part of this interview. And I remember those days back in the 80s all of us talking about Chris, Yngwie, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, Etc. Those were fun times.
Not to forget Jason Becker and Marty Friedman (= Cacophony), Tony McAlpine, Ritchie Kotzen - all these Shrapnel Guys..
Ilve him so much. He just wants to play.
I'm a huge Gary Moore fan and I still discover after all these year how he influenced so many people...
Awesome interview Max!! All three segments of this has been amazing. Chris is an amazing guitarist. 🎸🎸👏🏻👏🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I know this is out of context, but I love that room you guys are in. It’s refreshing to see you in a dinning room, Rey classy
I have one of those Charvel Legacy strat's Chris is playing here and it is just like the old originals from 1981.
Grover and the rest of the Charvel crew did a amazing job at cloning the old feel and tone of the 1981 Charvels.
The neck on these is one of the best Strat necks ever!
Awesome interview Max! Chris seems like the nicest guy! Very cool to see! Nice shoutout for Ronni LeTekro there too!
So cool seeing Chris rip during the interview - it was so cool to hear him give credit to his good friend Jimi Bell - that was so great to hear - again, just another example of what a great person Chris is - and thank you so much for this awesome 3 part interview Max ! Great job man!
So that's how Chris sort of fell under the radar: he didn't want this 'competition' vibe...
And I can definitely understand that.
Al DiMeola never got into that "let's just play faster!!!" thing either, but rather went the opposite way. So did Gary Moore and (another mostly unsung hero) Frank Marino... It just got too silly.
I think Chris also felt a bit more akin to George Lynch, considering their more 'metal'-based approach.
Excellent interview!!!
Happy to see Chris is doing well 👍😎🙏
simply fantastic. Love his music.
Unplugged he sounds jaw dropping
I always loved chris's playing and tunes!
Great guitarist. I think what I like about him more than the likes of Malmsteen is that Chris is such a humble guy.
Great interview!!! I really enjoyed the parts of it. Maybe Micheal Romeo can be next??
Magnificent interview. It was really just a conversation with input and response as if you were not being recorded. Excellent interview skills on display Max.
Good job, Max! Very good interview. Let’s see some more of these!
Awesome interview Max!!! So cool to see Chris open up ....he is a phenomenal guitarist! I could tell he was very relaxed around you... that definitely helped him open up for the interview. I bet the neck on his guitar felt smooth as butter.
That interview rocked!!! Chris really seems nice and down to earth guy :)
Great interview Max!!
Absolutely great video. Another technique yes please! Thanks Max! And Chris
Great techniques
This was outstanding. Thank you.
It's an interview from the musician to musicians asking questions we'd like to ask. Great job, man. Greetings from São Paulo / BRAZIL.
Maravilhosa entrevista com meu ídolo Chris Impellitteri! Muito legal ver que ele, Chris, é um cara muito legal!!
Impelliteri. Love it.
Chris Impellitteri just a regular guy who does not seem to have a huge Ego like most great guitarists
Why do you care about ego or personality? Are you listening to the music or writing an in depth "gossip" piece for a cheap magazine? ??
@@lelandgaunt7130 you can ask some of these little fucktards that refuse to sub to my channel because one time or another i was critical toward their playing or other times ive only liked their channel so go figure.. So ego is a big factor on youtube and in the guitar community i hate to reveal.
Many if not most truly great musicians are quite humble. The music or one’s instrument tends to do that to you.
Great interview Max. Chris is unique.
My whole life changed when I heard between nothingness and eternity or by the mahavishnu orchestra and that sent me down a spiral descent into hell lol, But I also remember when I heard stand in line from impelliteri and I was just blown away by the technique. And I said I have to try to do that. I was moderately successful but it came at a price nerve damage in my fretting hand So you kids out there know your limitations and don't play through pain. I was actually always a bass player really, but I think that Chris's underestimated for his compositional prowess too. And his chicken picking stuff is just amazing I mean it's amazing. But when I first saw that v HS tape his speed soloing thing I just couldn't even believe it
Awesome interview! Chris impellitteri was the first VHS guitar solo tutorial I ever bought.
I was so amazed at the style of playing it influence me into wanting to be a lead guitar player, and I never forget my influences even from the beginning 🤘
I found a copy of what I think might have been the first Impellitteri EP in my first semester in college in 1989. The ENTIRE dorm had to listen to it.
He one of the guy that made my jaw dropped in my early guitar learning, maybe to early lol. Amazing tone, powerful technique, precision, dat palm mute shred ❤, havent talk about speed yet lol.
Did I miss the Blackmore part....?? Anyways, killer interview & it's great to see him still out there kicking ass. Keep up the good work.
Awesome interview with the fabulous axeman Mr. Impellitteri. Please, do an interview with a shred guitar pioneer Mr. David T. Chastain too. 🤘
Great stuff but here we are in 2023 and have all these great small portable amps
and Chris is playing unplugged where we cannot barley hear him?
A small Katana amp or one similar would have been a real plus for this!
Someone give that dog a Milkbone or something! 😂
🐕🦴 ...🤣
respect to BELL...nice
Chris is so underrated. His chicken picking and string skipping might be the best ever honestly....Im not gonna even talk about speed which is simply ridiculous....Had 4-5 records, but once "Beast" came out it was instant buy. I just had to have them all.
Class act . anything from Gary Moore is playing guitar with feeling
I think his techniques are more like Paul Gilbert than other guys his mentioned during interview
Great interview!
What is the name of the guitar player Chris mentions, Jimmy Balen or smth I can`t figure it out...?
Jimi Bell. 🤘😎🤘
"I'm doing it slowly..." I wish I could play anything that "slowly"!
I would say the song "Secret Lover." It rips from start to finish.
What is your daily practice routine; and how to do listen to yourself what you need to practice?
👌
Dude why you didnt ask him about his forearm picking movement?
This guy's pick attack is unmatched
LOVE Chris !!! IMO, and I know this sounds stupidlyness, but if he used a different band name, he may be far more recognized for the genius he is. No, really... been a fan for 30 years and no one I tell about him can recall his name, or let alone, how to friggin' spell it.
Never thought he sounded anything like YJM.
the stereo is reversed
being handed a guitar by chris would have it for me.
1st comment!
Jimmi Bell Plays how Jimmy Hendrix would... if he wanted to shred and play metal.
smoking "H" helps to play fast....!!
Shredding is just noise. Give me a good solo that I can humm like the solo in the Beatle’s “Something” or “Since I’ve been loving you”
Jimmy never played anything like Malmsteen. He's literally just a great guitarist who went nowhere in life nor music likely due to his 'amazing personality'.
@@ShredDead Jimmy LOVES the limelight! He could only be the big fish in a small pond due to his ego.
No offense guys but that yapping little dog in the background completely ruins these videos! Hard to enjoy
CHRIS SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING GTR SO MUCH DURING AN INTERVIEW
you know there ts a thing called an amplifier you can plug that guitar into so you can here it! what a joke!
i meant hear it.
🙌🏼
🎼🎻
dude that circular picking is the shit. i noticed a long time ago i was doing it for the mechanix and it blew my mind lol. i suck, but it helped me improve a lot with the finger flying stuff

May the guitar gods be with you
Chris Impelliterri..."Fast fingers with a slow burn"!
