Dyson’s Outsize Absolute + is a cordless stick vacuum that’s designed to fill the space between light and uber-portable cordless vacuums and more powerful, bigger capacity uprights. The Dyson Outsize Absolute + is specifically built for larger and more carpeted North American homes so it’s got a larger dust bin, bigger cleaner head, more powerful suction and an additional battery. I had a the opportunity to try the Dyson V11 Outsize Absolute + in my home for a few weeks: Here’s what happened.
The new Dyson Outsize Absolute + is all about bigger: it has a 150% larger dustbin, 25% bigger cleaning head, and dual batteries to support longer cleaning times, now with up to 120 minutes of runtime, compared to the V11 and V15 models.
There are three main cleaning heads, and several accessories:
High Torque XL cleaner head
You could call this the main vacuum head, and it’s the largest roller head option in the package. With Dyson Dynamic Load Sensor it will automatically adjust power on different floor types, meaning you can deep clean between carpet and hard floor without having to swap accessories.
Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head
With its Jetsons-meets-teddy bear name, this cleaning brush head must be something amazing, yes? It sure is. With its padded fluffy brush, it’s made specifically for wood and tile floors, because those fuzzy rollers can trap and inhale fine particles of dust thanks to anti-static fibres. Add in a laser that’s generated when powered on:With green light that emanates horizontally across your floors, it will bounce off particles so you can see them better.
Hair screw tool
The hair screw tool has an anti-tangle cone-shaped brush bar that not only picks up long hair or pet hair, but its shape is made to prevent hair and fibres from wrapping around the roller and creating tangled clogs. With its cone shape, hair should eventually work its way off the brush and into the dustbin.
Cleaning with Dyson Outsize
This vacuum is ultra easy to use and while it is noticeably heavier than the V11 Absolute I reviewed not long ago, it’s still easy to carry around.
The accessories and brush/roller heads snap in an out so easily with no pulling or yanking. The Dyson Outsize Absolute + cleaned all the surfaces of my home really well: it definitely powers dirt out of carpets (like dried dog paw prints) and gets rid of pet hair well; it’s truly surprising to see what ends up in the dustbin, particulalry when you though your floors were already pretty clean. This stick vacuum truly powers dirt out of carpets; it’s surprising what the dustbin fills up with.
It easily pulls up pet hair, crumbs, lint and dust on hardwood floors. To further test it I spilled things like crackers, oatmeal and flour on my kitchen tile too and it does a great job picking up pretty much anything. The cleaner head is also small enough to fit under kick plates in the kitchen and can swoop under things like sofas and beds too.
When it comes to those two new cleaning heads, I was really and truly surprised by the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head. To be frank, before my testing, I thought adding lasers to your vacuum was about as relevant as adding lasers to golf carts. I can admit I was wrong.
The laser does an outstanding job of illuminating dirt I truly could not see. My first use, I’d already vacuumed the previous day and thought there’d be nothing for it to light up. Nope. The green laser cuts across the floor’s surface at an oblique angle which is perfect for making dirt and dust bunnies light up like tiny beacons. It truly made hard-to-spot dirt easy to see, both in low light and bright light.
The Hair Screw tool also worked outstandingly well. After using it on a dog bed, furniture, and then even testing it on carpet, the conical brush has absolutely zero hair wrapped around it.
Overall review:
Overall, The Dyson Outsize is easily the best large format stick vacuum you can buy.
When it comes to the pros: it’s powerful, has automatically adjustable suction, a great array of tools and accessories included. Plus there’s long battery life with two battery packs in use, the bigger cleaning head and larger dustbin for less frequent emptying. And the laser sighting works wonders, plus the new Hair Screw Tool doesn’t tangle
Any downsides? It is heavier than average stick vac, particularly when used as a handheld, the batteries take a while to charge and yes, it is expensive.
Even so, it cleans brilliantly and I can’t make any major complaints about it.
If you need a new vacuum with the power of an upright, amazing new, useful cleaner heads, and without the trailing cords, this stick vacuum has the ability to clean your whole home. - Věda a technologie
This was SO incredibly helpful and thorough! This video has truly helped me make a decision and I appreciate you showing the product in action! 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
Glad it was helpful, thank you!
Ughhhh my 6 year old Dyson just broke and I’m considering buying the new one but can’t afford it 😭😭😭 lol I’m so sad. That thing was my LIFE! Even after 6 fricken years, it worked like new! And I beat THE CRAP out of it. I have a husky 😅 so I’ve used it every single day since I’ve had it. Anyone thinking about it but wondering if it’s worth the price - it absolutely is!! I dropped my old one soooo many times because I knew it was only a matter of time before it pooped out on me 😔 if I had taken better care of it, j could’ve seen it lasting at least 10 years. I’ll miss you Dyson! 😭💔 I think I’m just gonna have to work my tushy off to afford a replacement.
RIP Dys - I’ll never forever all the memories we shared together. And all the messes you cleaned. My virgo self was absolutely obsessed. Gone but never forgotten (until I get a new one lmao) December 23rd, 2016-May 21, 2022
LOL, thanks for sharing!
My mom has been complaining about the pain of lugging around a heavy vacuum corded to do cleaning around her house. I have a Dyson V15 and love it, but my mom lives on the other side of the states. I wanted to see how this model stacked up and your review convinced me to get it for her as a gift.
That is awesome!
This was a really thorough review, thanks for your time.
My pleasure!
Omg 🤯 I was looking like crazy for a good vacuum cordless and I found this Tineco s12 that was bad or at least not whst I wanted for that price, so I decided to stop being cheap 😅 and buy the dyson v15, I was ready to buy it when I found your video about the Dyson outside with the soft roll that was what I needed. Happy to see your review. I just bought it and now waiting to receive it 🙌 better spend a little more money but now I sure I'm gonna be happy with a good quality machine.
Thanks so much, I hope you enjoy it!
I too thought the laser was going to be a gimmicky waste of money, but now I love it. We have dark wood floors and the laser is amazing for making sure I'm actually getting all the dust and fur.
Great to hear!
just ordered Mine can't wait expensive but I like the second battery
Awesome review Erin!
Thank you!
I wasn’t gonna get this till I realized I’d be getting a 2nd battery and the laser floor head. Plus if you get it from dyson they give you a free tool kit, 3 extra tools free. I just ordered one. If you can get it I’d highly suggest it. It’s well worth it for everything you’re getting. Now I’ll be selling some other vacuums I am no longer using .
That's great, thank you so much for sharing!
I order this vac after your review and love it!
Fantastic, thanks for letting me know!
Really enjoyed your video - very useful.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Wish you would talk about the docking and storage -
As usual a good Dyson review..
Thanks John!
great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
Could you tell me how long each battery lasts when on boost mode?
Bought it today. LOVE IT. Only complaint it takes a long time to charge the batteries.
Glad you love it!
Is this based off of the older v11 model? I want to get their latest model but I'm confused where this one falls as it does not have some of the technologies from the V15.
i am trying to decide between the V12 / V15 / GEN 5 / outsize plus.......have a 2500 sq ft house ..mostly hardwood floors except one room is carpeted then a few area rugs.......like the thought of being able to clean upper corners of the walls.....here in Canada the V12 is 899 V15 is 999 and the Gen 5 is 1199 and the Outsize plus is 1249......all in Canadian funds....which do you think we would be happy with ? we are 58 years old and bodies are getting old and sore...lol..plus i would want to have 2 batteries which is 145 to 199 each... thx cheers
Nice
Do the dog hairs wrap on the larger head? I know you mentioned the smaller head doesn’t but I want to know if the larger head gets the hairs wrapped up.
Not at all.
I gather it doesn't have the V15's party trick of tracking the size/type of things it picks up (dust vs pollen vs ...)?
No it does not.
how's the noise level? does it emit tiny dust when in used?
It is not overly noisy. Dyson has very high-quality filters and no dust escapes from it while it is in use.
@@ErinLawrenceTV ok thanks, thinkin bout gettin one
Thank you. This helped be make my final purchase decision.
That's great, thank you!
👍🏻
I have used this several times and absolutely hated it. Such a big thing as a handheld and uncomfortable trigger for me, even when using as a floor vacuum. Prefer a proper upright over this. Excellent review and very clear concise information.
Thanks so much! And sorry to hear about your experience.
Wrong and potentially misleading... ..the outsize has less suction than the detect
