- K2 skates recently announced their first ever hardboot freestyle inline skate. With 3x variants per model; the lower-priced Surge range and the premium Grid models, incorporating various frame and wheel sizes on each.
In this video we find out whether using a freestyle skate for a marathon is a good idea all while testing the most exciting new addition to the freeskate roller market in a while.
Featuring Jake Eleye and Gaston Demoratti.

The skates aren't dropping until Spring 2024... but they're letting us talk about them so lets do it!...
I wonder if they're trying to deter folks from buying a different skate over the holidays and wait until this drops. Whatever the reason, it's cool to see them now. Hope you have a quick recovery on that wrist, Jake!
awesome stuffs guys, what is the mounting on these? only 165mm or can they accommodate 180mm?
I guess seba did the same thing with the white cj skate……. Kinda lol
@@NISHIAKIsome of us can't skate in the winter, so we buy skates in spring when the weather permits.
Bootfitter here! That heel wedge is especially great to leave in if you have very high or very low dorsiflexion.
Very interesting! Individual shell sizes might be the reason I give these a go. We'll see...
Had exactly the same feeling, going more downhill than uphill 😂
Love the work done by K2, and you all.
Thank you for doing this video and congratulations on finishing the Berlin Skate Marathon👍
congratulations on completing the Berlin Marathon, and respectable times! Thanks for the interesting upload
So good that you enjoyed it, and sorry for your fall. "Whatever it is that you need"? Muscle and endurance is not the biggest part - it is even more proper technique to skate efficiently fast for a long time! key is to let your weight and gravity work for you together with your push ("Weight shift", "power box"). Then a perfect set down for the zero friction really long glide ;) A good recovery leg motion to rest your leg that is not pushing and the proper core stability, arm movement etc.. to not mess up your technique with you upper movement getting you all inclinded. Further there is race strategy: slip stream of course, fast start and prospective skating to close down gaps and not waste energy doing every little speed increase. Wheels yes 125 mm will make you faster and glide longer once you are at a higher tempo but if you can´t keep your technique in them for 1 and half hour because your instable and improne directly wihle setting down your wheels then they are slower. its the same reason why most people don´t get fast switching to a low cut boot. For proper tips just watch Victor Thorup, Pascal Briand or Joey Mantia they are the only YTs with a dedicated channel i know. Hope to see you next year.
Amazing, thanks! Will definitely follow!
Hey all.. Thoughts on which K2 here is the closest to the FR/FRX in fit, function, and features!?
Thanks...
I definitely fancy doing this one year
Do it! Perfect excuse to spend a few days in Berlin.
They really look lovely. They missed the chance of a rockerable frame on the 90 and 80 variants.
90 is rockered 🙂
Put out more regular content and you will GET more subs! I`m sure I speak for fellow subscribees that we love your stuff but there just isn`t enough of it.
Perhaps next time we can have Gaston actually next to mic rather than just vaguely in the same county. Sounded he was phoning in....via the radio! Congrats on the marathon though, hope your wrist gets better soon. Wear gloves/guards!
Gaston’s funky audio was actually an equipment issue… rather than a geographical issue 😂
My next skates are going to be either the K2 Grid 90 or 110!!!!
Hey I have been skating Sebas/FR1 with intuitions for over a decade. The speed lacing looks cool but I usually go through 3+ sets of laces before I replace a pair of intuitions (well i have only replaced my intuitions twice but you do need to replace laces eventually, I am not sure ill be able to replace the speed lacing? Anyway I am interested in trying these they look awesome. I can crush 10 hour days in sebas so i doubt I will be switching but it's the first skate in ages I am pumped about!
The speed lacing is totally replaceable. I actually think you are way less likely to wear out the laces with speed lacig because its a more controlled mechanism with less wear-points. Also, you can just entirely remove the speed lacing and just use normal laces if you want to :-)
K2 Hardboots.. now i've seen it all 😂👍
Done berlin in 3x125 and 4x110, coasting on 125 was much better. 110 was better at high speed due to the longer frames.
Would these boots work with aftermarket frames like the endless?
Yeah it works really well. The fitment using 3x110 endless frames is really good
So, what soul plates we putting on these?
Mesmer?
@@LocoSkatesMight work, and could actually match the lines of the boot.
Should make an aggressive skate with this shell .
they need an all black model cause the egg carton look aint it for me 😅
Disappointing they have gone down a hard boot route if I'm honest
What?! Why?! It's not that they're not making soft boots anymore, they're just also offering hard boots now. Why would that be disappointing?
@@Boris_V their turn out of new soft boots hasn't been good at all.
K2 released so many soft boots model. It’s about time for hard boots. Looking forward to it.
@@CatzzSkatesFamily the company slogan is "the soft boot company". I hope it does well for them but they need to up their game and come out with some soft boots that can match their former glory.
