    Thank you for sharing this extremely rare video. 1975 was not a particularly interesting year for One Life to Live. The storylines had grown stale and sluggish, and although the characters were interesting and played by good actors, they were either stagnating or taking bizarre turns. It was right about this point when Russell and Hall began to lay the foundation for more compelling long-running stories. All the business about Cathy and Megan and the child’s involvement with Joe and Viki would take a huge turn the very next week after this episode aired. Following Cathy and Tony’s flinty meeting, Anna convinced her to give Tony another chance. Cathy offered her extra symphony ticket to Tony. That stormy night proved fatal to Megan. She had an asthma attack while Viki looked after her. Viki bundled the child up and raced to the hospital during a terrible storm. They collided with another car, leaving Viki comatose and Megan dead. Cathy lost her mind, accusing Viki of wanting Megan out of the way. Cathy’s insanity and fallout from Megan’s death would be a major story for the next two years.

      Isn’t that coma when they discovered Viki was pregnant with Kevin, prompting Cathy to deteriorate quicker?

    • @markfaulkner5626
      @markfaulkner5626 Před 3 lety +7

      @@bigal650 Viki wasn’t pregnant yet. She was keeping the secret that Megan would have eventually died from a congenital heart condition, passed on to her by Joe. On the day Viki was released from the hospital in December, she and Joe slept together, not thinking about the fact that Viki hadn’t been taking birth control pills while comatose, 😂 Jim Craig suggested she take a pregnancy test just in case, and of course Viki had become pregnant from that one night. This all came into play the following September when Kevin was born and a deranged Cathy kidnapped him. Joe found out everything and blamed Viki for keeping the secret from him. She in turn blamed him for sleeping with Cathy and fathering an illegitimate child. This led to them deciding that their marriage was over, and they separated. This is why they’re apart and cold to one another in Larry and Karen’s April 1977 wedding episode.

      I remembered watching it and the Rachel Wilson story with Larry Wolek and Mark Toland and Dorian was riveting in the Fall-Winter 1974-75, I did not watch in the summer or spring of 1975 much with school etc. so there were lapses in viewing.Then you had the Cathy Craig, Joe Riley Viki triangle story with Kathy pregnant in early winter 1975.. I loved the soap around then.. Then in the summer of 1973, Meredith dies, which I felt bad about.. Some say they should not have killed her off. but it did open up some storylines down the road with her gone. I thought the soap was great in the early 70's until the Buchanans came along. I was not a fan or of the show once they arrived. I liked the old 'clans'.

    20:06. Parkay Margarine Commercial with Laughing Latino Man (USA, 1975) [30-Second Version]
    A laughing Latino man argues with a square box of margarine because when he opens up the Parkay lid, it says to him “mantequilla” (butter) and he did know it is or was margarine. But when he finally tasted it, he then says “mantequilla” right before the box says “Parkay” in Spanish.

    I recognize Anna as one of the recurring judges on "Law & Order" (among other roles). The actress playing Tim's mother looks so familiar, but I can't place her.
    I loved seeing this, but it's surprising just how stilted and awkward a lot of the dialogue seems. That moment when Carla talks to Jenny at the hospital desk, Carla has her back turned to the camera! WTF! Couldn't they have blocked that scene better? Carla is also clearly reading off cue cards when she's talking to Anna. And that confrontation between Steve and Cathy is just plain weird. It seems like he's putting this "dippy women's libber" in her place by kissing her. The way the scene plays, it's supposed to be playful, but damn he could get arrested for doing that nowadays!
    During the end credits, the announcer mentions "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell premieres this Saturday." This was not the SNL created by Lorne Michaels that is still on the air today. It's a different show that was in competition with the NBC series (that likewise debuted during this time period.) Lorne Michaels had to call his show "NBC's Saturday Night" at first because Cosell had already snatched up the rights to the name, but Cosell's version of SNL bombed and the NBC show title was changed. Bill Murray was an ensemble player on Cosell's show during its brief run.

      @@jimdavis3435 She also took over for Tova Feldshuh as Martha McKee on Ryan's Hope...this was later 70's post-Cathy Craig...as usual she was excellent in the episodes formerly posted on CZcams. Did episodic TV, TV movies and the acclaimed film Hester Street. Left for Europe to pursue further an operatic career and unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer soon thereafter and passed rather quickly. An all-time favorite luminous actress and what a pleasure to see Dorrie Kavanaugh here, she forever shines brightly.

      It was wrong in 1975, too. To me, 1975 was a darker time than today. Too much was either not taken seriously, unidentified, or unknown.

      @@dwsh1 I totally agree it was wrong. I was thinking about these kinds of scenes in soaps in the 60's and 70's and even early 80's where these sexual assaults were basically ignored or seen as just a woman being hit on. I didn't see it but Luke raped Laura on GH around 1980 wasn't it? Were the male writers purposely making these assaults to be nothing so men could be allowed to do these crimes? I wonder now. Or were they projecting society's acceptance of it? I was a 14 year old male in 1975 but I do not remember seeing this scene or any others as I was growing up. I have seen others on youtube in the last few years too that were assault and nothing done about them in there various soap worlds. Dr. Steve Aldrich forcing himself on Karen in the late sixties is another example.
