Can't be. What made them great is what also tore them apart. The conflict, the push and pull, between Hodgson and Davies creates great art. It also rips the band apart.
Neither was as great apart as they were together, but they are humans. Conflict and struggle wears you out. No matter how good the art.
I am VERY thankful for the great albums we have from them, and respect the fact that they have had enough of each other too. Real lives are like that.
So much great stuff comes from artists in conflict. Works for some bands. (Multiple writers getting along for decades can work too. e.g. Weir/Garcia. Every band is different.)

Talk about nailing it, Jamel! I'll never meet you and get to thank you in person for all you do for me. But just know that you and your reactions have changed my life for the better. I struggle every day with chronic pain. It never leaves. Pills don't work. Doctors can't do anything for me. But you and your music reactions? They help distract me and take the pain away. Watching you and your smiles and good humor gives me real joy! I love to watch you react, bob along with the music and comment. You make me smile and feel better. God bless you, my friend. The line from this song that always grabbed me the most was the won you looked most surprised about and you quoted jut after the song ended. It is a very powerful, and meaningful line for anyone feeling loneliness. The first time I heard that line it felt like someone understood me. "See the man with the lonely eyes. Take his hand and you'll be surprised." It it one of the most iconic lines in music.

The lyric in this song that always did it for me, just took it over the top, is when the refrain changes from "love" to "life". It needs to start with love or it wouldn't work so well.
    I'll give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my Life for you.
With this one word the love becomes deeper, more solid, and times 9,000.

You become the star, is that what you are, dear?"
