  • Is Surfing Better than Kitesurfing? A question that's been on my mind for a few years now, since I started kitesurfing. In this video I compare these 2 phenomenal sports and share my insights to try and figure out which is better! I've been kiting for 6 years and surfing for 10 (8 of which were super active). In these years of die hard devotion to these sports, I've traveled to many of the world's best destinations and spent many of my waking and sleeping hours obsessed with them. I guess this puts me in a position where I can give a decent answer ;)

    I agree 100% with everything you've said here. I've been surfing 15 years and kiting for two and a half and I'd say I'm a better kiter than surfer although i do live in Wales where the waves at great most of the time but it's often windy. I mostly ride a directional strapless and my local spot has good waves and ramps. Nothing I've ever done can beat a top quality surf session but kiting is consistently more fun because of the reasons mentioned in the vid. I also find that the better i get at kitesurfing, the closer my wave riding gets to the purity of surfing in that my kite becomes less of an impediment through my turns and works with me rather than against me (which used to happen a lot). Cheers for the vid.

      Yeah I'm with you on all of that Henry! Nice! I love seeing guys ride a directional when they ride the board more than the kite and only use the kite to get into position, bring more power into the turns or beat unbeatable sections. If I'm just riding the kite in stead of the board I don't feel connected with the water. Thanks for watching!

    Great analysis. I could go on for days about this one. Been surfing since I was 5. Learned to kite a few years back and now it’s all I want to do. I still love surfing but every time I surf I realize how boring it can be. Not to mention all the idiots and assholes you have to deal with. Kiting is all action and the people who kite are waayyyy more friendly and welcoming than people who surf.

    I have been kiting for 15 years, and have been asking this question from people who surf and kite I never got straight answer. Thanks for finally answering my question!👍 honestly I stoped watching kite videos since many of them are pretty boring, you definitely doing a great job with your videos bud , cheers 🍻 to that ! 👍

    Nothing beats the feeling of being pushed by the wave/water and dropping down a huge clean face....but it’s IMPOSSIBLE to get any decent conditions in the Western Europe, so yeah, it gets boring sometimes and extremely physically exhausting

    I am both a surfer and a kitesurfer. Personally my heart goes out to surfing, but since I am living in the Netherlands I kite more often as conditions are better for kiting. I love the simplicity and intimacy with nature that I experience when surfing. It's all about preference though I think.

    Great video man . You should drop the mike rispeckt double sense lol
    You forgot to say the 2 sport combines perfectly because if to windy not good for surfing and usually when the wind drop or turn off shore you got the best waves .

    @anitaankarlou3789 Před 4 lety

    I have grown up by the red sea where the water is always flat so kitesurfing is very popular here and thats how I got into it! The location is probably a huge factor for what sport people get in to

  • @JamesLamb
    @JamesLamb Před 3 lety +1

    Both are best if you can live fairly close to a decent spot for the activity. If you have to fly to the location, with kiteboarding you'll be spending not only the money for equipment, but also to fly wherever often enough to get your skills in place. I started age 60, and it took about 90 hours to get up on the board (lessons, body dragging, getting enough kite skills to get my feet in the straps without crashing the kite). It's probably safer to surf without lessons than to kite without lessons.

    • @JamesLamb
      @JamesLamb Před 3 lety

      *90 hrs - I kept track of my sessions, which were mostly about 3 hours each. So that's about 30 days, but over two seasons due partially to wind and sore muscles!

  • @AscendedBeing87
    @AscendedBeing87 Před 4 lety

    100% agree. For me trying to surf (may like 20 times?) was mainly frustrating. Its so fucking hard to even get out through the waves and get the right timing to catch a green wave. And then, you have just a very little time peer session on really surfing that wave. Im not patient enough for this shit.^^
    Cant wait for that next Video!

    ..what i really dig about kite surfing is the vibe...the guys are MUCH more friendly compared to the surfing crowd...however i see it changing as blouberg is starting to get super crowded and the tourists don't seem to understand personal space...they run their lines out right freeekn over on top of you when there's miles of space......

    Agree 100% specially for frustraded surfers like I who never got any good kiting beats it 1000 times.. it required less skills less physical condition but a lot of more money. Any surfer can learn how to kite but definitely not any kiter can learn how to surf

  • @thelukeandrews
    @thelukeandrews Před 4 lety +1

    Two things not mentioned:
    1. Convenience - With surfing, you can find waves on most coasts in the world... but to chase the wind you have to fly to a specific country with all your gear and hope it's good.
    2. Chill - After a surf, you can chill on the beach with your girlfriend, grab a beer and a snack and relax. Kiting, it's too windy for that!
    (still prefer kiting though)

      Hahaha true story ✌️

    • @JamesLamb
      @JamesLamb Před 3 lety

      Neither sport is that good if it's a challenge for you to get to the beach. Most surf beaches probably have somewhere not so far away to kiteboard, but some have more consistent wind from the right angle - usually in a specific season. (but the waves may also be better during a specific season).
