In this episode of Dubspot's Wireless interview series, educator, composer, and producer Raz Mesinai (formerly known as Badawi) talks to some of the most active and influential producers and DJs in Chicago's juke music and footwork circles. Raz sat down with DJs Rashad, Spinn, Manny, and J-Cush (a.k.a. Azizaman of Lit City) to talk about the origins and global rise of Juke and Footwork, Chicago's electronic dance music history (which is fascinating and runs deep), their early influences from Lil Louis and Tyree to DJ Slugo's classic "Where The Rats?", sample sources and methods (from vinyl to CZcams), dubstep, dancers, and juke music from unexpected places around the world! In January, Dubspot's Mike Styels also sat down with Rashad for an extensive interview talked about production, differences between footwork and juke, and the international appeal of juke.
AWESOME. Raz is such a great interviewer. He actually engages in a mutual conversation with his interviewees and you can tell they're into it. Respect!
