  • A new GVB CAF Urbos 15G tram set in testing is seen in Amsterdam city center in September 2020.
Ultimately, these new trams will replace the 11G and 12G type trainsets.
The new 15G tram of the GVB (one of the nicknames "De Steur") seems to feel like a fish in water. The test runs that the GVB previously made at night on an empty tram network now also take place regularly during the day. Then the tram runs between the normal timetable. So far, the tests are going well.
How often the 15G tram runs test rides during the day varies from day to day because the workshops in the depots also have to be tested when the other trams are running. In this test phase, the vehicle also passes the sand filling installation, the car wash and the silage wheel lathe, just to name a few examples.
    Best of the best
To stay in fisherman's terms, this new 15G tram is "the cream of the crop". The tram is supplied by the Spanish CAF and is of the Urbos 100 type. The 100 stands for the 100% low floor that the tram has. The floor height is 300 mm. This makes boarding extra easy for disabled travelers and for people with a pram. The tram also has an electronic pull-out step (wheelchair ramp) that can be operated by the driver.
To prevent squeaking in curves, the trams are equipped with wheel flange lubrication. The trams are equipped with sand spreaders, side cameras and a black box. CAF also supplied this type of tram to Utrecht (for the Uithoflijn), Belgrade, Birmingham, Sydney and Zaragoza. The trams are equipped with climate control for both driver and passengers.
The trams are 30 meters long, 2.40 meters wide and are suitable for running on the Amsterdam 600 Volt network. The tram has 50 seats and 125 standing places. Because the tram has two cabins, the trams, like the series 11G and 12G (series 800/900) and the four two-way Combinos (series 2201-2204), will not be equipped with a service counter. The 15G trams will receive the serial number 3000.
The GVB has purchased 63 new trams, with an option for 60 extra trams. Of the 63 15G trams in total, 25 trams will be in the R-net livery. These will soon be used on Line 25 to Amstelveen Westwijk when it is finished. 38 15G trams in GVB blue and white will be delivered. The first blue and white tram will become GVB sometime in September 2020. The carrier will later announce on which lines they will be used.
The test tram that you now see driving does not yet have all the official R-net and GVB stickers and, for example, the red frame at the doors. The exterior will be complete by the time the tests are over and the moment has come for the tram owner's key to transfer from CAF to GVB. That moment is getting closer.
    Short history 15G Tram
    - In the night of 25 to 26 April 2019, the first 15G tram of the GVB arrives at the Hoofdwerkplaats Rail (HWR) in Diemen.
    - Since the night of Tuesday 28 to Wednesday 29 May, the tram has been running for test runs outside the gates of the GVB. The test runs take place at night so as not to disturb other tram traffic.
    - At the end of July, the second 15G Tram (the 3002) will be tested in a so-called climate chamber. In Minden, Germany, all systems and functionalities of the new tram are tested under large temperature differences.
    - From Thursday, September 19, the 15G tram (the 3003) will also run through Amsterdam during the day. The test tram runs - without passengers - between the normal GVB tram traffic.

Whenever anyone in Denmark says that light rail will kill the businesses of a street, be hitting pedestrians 24/7, be causing several bicycle accidents, or even compare the tram tracks to the Berlin Wall, I'm just gonna show them this! Thank you so much for capturing this gold mine of a clip.

Tiens, le masque n'est pas obligatoire là-bas ? En tout cas, elles ont une jolie bouille ces nouvelles rames. Dommage qu'elle n'arborent pas la livrée blanche et bleue.
