Midfield is actually playing now instead of being bypassed, its all about creating space for bruno and erikson to play THOSE passes. Some simple coaching and a mentality upgrade. Defence now looks superb with the new signings, this is helping everything else. All we need now is a striker alternative that can hold the ball and link the play (martial plus a standby - new signing).

Before Ajax he was the manager of Go Ahead Eagles and Utrecht. Smaller teams in the Netherlands so this isn't a new thing for him. He played a sort of same style with them. Later on he went to Ajax and there the possession based style was already in place and he fine-tuned that with his own ideas. I think he needs 2-3 summer transfer windows and then you will see the real ten hag style of play at MU. I really hope he gets the time.

@@lucasscott5983 I suspect it's a number of factors. Eriksen doing the passing through the lines so McIntominay can concentrate on his strengths, and Fernandes playing a little deeper are also factors. Not having an out of form and severely lacking CB behind can be a factor, of course. Seems strange to me that people are still in Mcguires corner at this point. What I love about Ten Hag so far is how hes adapted his tactics to the players he has in front of him. He knows that after the 3 seasons of players not being trained properly it will take time to play exactly the way he wants straight away. If you look at Mactomannay for example, he is a number 8 being forced to play at number 6. It has shown for nearly 4 seasons that despite a few decent games, he hadnt been properly trained to play CDM he was just thrown in there. The last 4 matches you can visibly see the differences in Scott's game, he is more disaplined in the role. It does help him playing alongside Erikson just like it helped Fletcher when he played alongside Carrick.

Personally I see the "ETH" football in these last four games. It's just not on 90 mins of the game. Martial coming back will make a huge difference and casemiro getting into the groove will take us even further. Finally, next transfer window get a bloody CM that can progress the ball.

Now you understand what Mourinho meant by controlling the game without the ball. Possession football forces teams to block low and Man U has a serious problem against low-blocking teams. This style of conceding possession gives the opponent a false sense of superiority which causes them to commit players forward and get exposed on the counter. This is partly why Conte and Tottenham are winning more games.

@@abdulhameedabu688 Your defence should be able to deal with pressure whether you play on the front foot or on the counter. It's naivete to think you can get away with a bad defence simply cos you can play a free-flowing attack style. Every strong team must have a strong defence as a basic.
It's also easier to put bodies in and around your box (even with average defenders) than to master all the techniques required to play fast flair football or find the energy reserves needed to sustain high pressing for 90 minutes.

The press that people keep talking about can't work without Martial. Rashford either can't or just won't do it. He may have scored two goals, but in some critical moments of the game, especially when United were not in possession of the ball, he was the same guy we saw last season: making little effort to get behind the ball even when the player on the ball was two to three yards away. There's still lots he needs to improve upon to justify playing as a centre forward. United really needs Tony back so that Rashford can play in the wings, which seems to suite him better.
Passing from the back with a ball playing keeper isn't the be all and end all. It's what some fans want, but Erik can easily opt for other tactics, as we're evidently seeing.

No one mentioning that Cristiano has also been benched.
His drama of 'family issues', forcing a move away, leaving the match early during pre-season and not wanting to applaud fans was not tolerated by ETH.
ETH firmly shows Cristiano who's the boss by not letting him move away and then benching him.
Two blows at the same time to silence him and a message for him to grow up despite his age.

What is Ten Hag's system? Currently he is not playing his system. MU must play better in the attacking 3rd where crosses, cut backs, neat combination passing really can create scoring chances..... which Ronaldo/Martial will enjoy finishing.

I'm a fan of practical football. Sure the fancy tiki-takas are nice to watch but, when the chips are all down, the practical side wins. Always. Look at Real Madrid in their UCL wins. At times, they were wretched. But they still won. Sure they have the talent. But at that level, there are no easy opponents. They can park the bus, they can do a Tony Pulis. The same with all of SAF's sides over the years. There were so many games won with a single goal margin when they just threw everything forward to score that one goal.

Letting one of our best defenders Bailly go on loan & keeping the 'terrible twins' in the squad is criminal, when he can complement Varane, Martinez & Tuanzebe game.
If we are Serious about Winning Trophies & being the Best then Sell Maguire to Leicester & Lindelof for £35M each & replaced by Martinez & Lacroix 20M. That would be Excellent Business!
