You are never going to read this, Mr. Newman, but you are a genius and I am glad that your music helped so much in my life.
The score was instrumental to the atmosphere and emotional depth of the film; it wouldn’t be the same without it. To date, it escapes me, how 1999 Academy Awards panel failed to recognize that.

This melody is a testament to the power of creativity....sometimes you stumble upon things that have such profound meaning. even when you cant identify it, you know it means something. This piece means nearly everything to me.

He is a phenomenal composer who deserves far more accolades than he gets. His sound is unique; it stirs, emotes, and is perfect.
I grew up listening to Thomas Newman's music as a child in the car. I'm twenty-six now and appreciate his music more and more as I grow older. It saddened me every time when the Academy didn't give him an Oscar as well as when I heard composers try to sound like him. There will never be anyone like him. I feel lucky to be alive in the same era as him and hope he knows how many lives he's touched.
To say there will never be anyone like him is bullshit. What about his dad Alfred who is regarded as one of the best film composers of all time? You don’t think he was influenced by him? Stop talking out of your ass.

Same here. Unfortunately Mr. Newman never really writes or produces his music for live performances. His style of making music is "only for electronic playback" sort of speak.

His timing, the weight of each key, the way each tone is carried out the exact length of time that his heart needs it to... how, just how does he do that?
His father was a notable film composer as well...the music is thick in his blood system.
This soundtrack added so much to the movie its insane. You cant seperate the two.
I remember looking out to a field at dusk, the sky a vibrant orange, the clouds gentle rolling across the sunset, listening to this, a deep sense of gratitude as in that moment I knew what life was about.
He's so brilliant, finding nemo and American beauty are masterpieces of film music

Those harmonies are right out of Northern European medieval styles in the Netherlands, north Germany, etc. Arvo Part uses this harmonic style. It’s like modernism via repurposing disused elements. Really affecting.

And in one composition I hear the whole sadness that is American life. I hear all of the Lester Burnham’s of the world, but without the Hollywood reinvention of oneself. I hear the poor, lonesome souls commuting to jobs they cannot bear to experience one more day of. I hear men in middle America fearing their country will be overtaken by immigrants, and hardening their bigotry as they fall into deeper economic stagnation. I hear a country fallen into disrepair in what seems like an eventual, certain decline.
But hey, all empires must fall right?
