the hold that Tim Burton had on Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter is stronger than steel
FACTS AH 😭😭😹
@@jakemurphy7956 Aren't they divorced?
@@ginger6readspaceman yep, has been for a while

I actually really like Tim Burton's take on Alice in Wonderland, the gloominess kinda works
I vibe with this
Exactly my thoughts. I love the background song and it kind of gives me nostalgic or melancholy.
Same, just like the game "Alice: Madness Returns"
Exactly
The og Alice in wonderlands was imo already kind of creepy so it made sense that it played into that part (not sure if that’s English sorry I’m not native speaker lol)
It was my favorite movie as a kid I was so suprised when I discovered that people hated it
IKR I was literally unaware of the dislike towards this film until recently
Same
Me too. I used to watch it with my sister all the time growing up. This movie screams childhood for me and always will
Same
Sameeee
This movie is underrated AF, it's so far from being that worse as everyone think it is. Helena and Johnny are the hightlight of this film 👏👏👏 and also THAT SCORE *chef's kiss* Danny Elfman is amazing
FACTS
i love this movie so much and i was so obsessed with this film as a kid,i watched it SO much
also fun fact:8 year old me was so extra i saw the film in the cinema just to see the Avril song at the credits
i dont blame you. The avril lavigne credits was one of the best things about this movie 😭
So you're telling me that one of my favorite movies ever is hated?! WHAT
It’s rude, v rude 😭
@@rxbeccarose omg omg uhm...hi queen (〃ω〃)
I don't know if it's just my love for remakes or Tim Burton, but I kinda prefer this to the Disney version because it's darker
It’s actually kinda the opposite for me, I really like this version in spite of my dislike for Tim Burton
this one is also Disney's, but they made it darker. I love Disney's dark movies
It's only darker aesthetically, not really in theme or story. And that certainly worked at the time considering it was the height of Hot Topic's powers.
Growing up I loved Tim Burton but his comments on why he never casts black people or really any people of color to me are... troubling. And his characterization of that one Asian character in Frankweenie (which was made not that long ago) is genuinely upsetting. There once was a time I defend this and his other movies religiously but now if someone wants to say his stuff is bad or 'stupid' then sorry to that man 🤷🏾♀️
@@gleegleek4eva That comment made me look that up, and it was dissappointing. When you're adapting from a novel/comic/film etc. I get casting a certain race(s), but when you're making original stories, it doesn't hurt to make a diverse cast.
@@gleegleek4eva he doesn’t like forced representation and usually sticks to the source material. I like that since he’s committed to his style
what do they mean as bad,,,,,,,, this was a masterpiece
It was 😭

the casting for young alice was on point, they really look like each other
There’s just something about this movie that is so special. It has flaws but the world that Tim Burton created is just magical. Also the Red Queen’s character design is awesome! Plus the score is exceptional- the Alice theme is so well written- truly fills you with wonder!
100% agree
I always felt like Haymish was like the anti-Mad Hatter. How he's so "proper" and the Hatter is a free spirit. They're even both gingers haha! Aunt Imogen is quite mad tho 😂
Did u mean Effie? 😭
IGNORE ME IM SO DUMB
I remember being OBSESSED with this movie- I also knew all the words to the Avril Lavigne song 💀🤚
It’s a pretty grand song
Watching this again knowing how the second one came out made me feel bad for the Red Queen. Her sister did her dirty
Oooh drama.. I haven’t seen the second one
I started the second one but never finished it. Is it worth it do you think?
@@chiannegibbs9462 it for sure is
I actually really liked the live action of Alice in wonderland
Taste
Oh my god, this film TRAUMATISED me as a child.
I remember being disturbed already, and then the part with the severed heads in the river came and I absolutely lost it. 😭
😹😹
My favorite version of Alice is from American McGee's game. That's about as dark as you can get as far as mainstream depictions go. Burton's Alice is cool. I still see the Cheshire Cat whenever I stare at clouds.
Aye that sounds grand, might have to check it out
And Alice Madness Returns
@@junior_8022 I hear you, I meant the series in general.
@@FelisDestructicus yea just wanted to say there was a pt 2 lol there’s also a pt 3 in the making
@@junior_8022 That, I didn't know. Can't wait for part 3. XD
“The audacity this man has, has me screaming” she said whispering
I have watched the Burton version more then the animated one. However I treat them all like a timeline, Alice in wonderland means so much to me I have a tattoo of the Cheshire cat. These and the Maleficent movies are the only good live action adaptations from Disney. ^^
Now cruella! I think that’s my fav
Why is this considered a remake again? It's a sequel to the animated one.
In the animated one she sees wonderland through childhood wonder, but is told that it was a dream. After years of being forced to forget due to societal norms and her father's mysterious disappearance she no longer remembers nor clings to childish things. In this movie she remembers something's but more like a dream. She knows eating things will change her but she doesn't remember how much to eat. Wonderland is no longer colourful because she has had every sense of wonder stripped from her. This does, however, allow her to see the world more realistically if not a tad darker. With out this she would not of been able to kill the jabberwocky. In through the looking glass she is some where in-between.
*"This is just a sibling fight on a very escalated level"*
Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass in a nutshell.
i absolutely adore this live action version and actually even prefer it over the original animated one lol i really just love the relationship that alice and the hatter have here
I still remember being 7 and watching this movie at my dad's house at like 1 am in disney and being so shocked by the gore from some scenes like :o i loved it so much and still do to this day
I had such a crush on the Hatter bc Johnny Depp was the love of my life when I was 13.
The Red Queen is the definition of trauma queen.
I still remember the day when I 1st time watched it. I didn't know that this movie was hated☹ The cast is amazing 🧚🏻♀️
Right!!
Just a thought, but at 20:48 when you say "that was a pathetic jump", you have to take into account the fact that she is jumping in a suit of armor (which normally weighs around 50 pounds) so she is probably weighed down and more restricted in her movements. Also could have just been a pathetic jump though 😂
I appreciate the book, but I never liked the cartoon-version that much. This, however, has always been one of my favorite live action-versions. I was really looking forward to your reaction to the goodbye between Alice and Hatter, and was kinda disappointed when that wasn't included in. :D But otherwise really great reaction, thanks! :)
This is literally my favorite movie I know all the lines since I was a child! It's so cool see someone reacting this 💜
this version was actually the first one I ever watched and I just fell in love with it. I would watch it so many times as a kid so I didn't really understand why people hated on this movie when I found out.
This and Secret of Moonacre were my favorite live action fantasy movies as a kid lol (the love song is literally a masterpiece)
I can't believe someone remembers The Secret of Moonacre! That was one of my favorite too! If only i can watch it again.
@@mothmoss118 it used to be on Netflix, I still love to watch it!
Every time there's a story where someone goes to another word we're all thinking "Why would you leave?"
Glad to know I'm not the only one who loves this movie, it was one of my favorites when I first saw it as a kid :D
"I like tadpoles on toast, almost as much as I like caviar." She says, to the fish.
Fictionaldarling and Rebecca Rose uploaded in the same day. How could anything go wrong after happy luck like this
i personally think that, if there is someone the hatter represents, it's alice herself. they both have an imagination that is repressed by their parent and are seen as improper and mad for simply being themselves, especially alice as a woman. he basically represents all the things she isn't allowed to be (it's more noticeable in the sequel, where she is more free and acts a bit like him). he is also a foil to hamish, they both have red hair, but the hatter is everything that hamish is not.
I'll watch this while eating a cookie on an official Alice through the looking glass plate, thank you very much 😂
thats iconic
Genuinely I like to watch this movie, I am a Tim Burton fan in general and I love all the dark looking sets mixed with colors
my favorite adaptation is probably ever after high’s version of wonderland but i really like the movies :)
I watched this movie in the theaters when I was 10, before I realized my parents were separating, and I was still kind of like Alice at the time, unassuming and full of hope and wonder. So this movie meant a lot to me growing up and I always treasured it for how much it impacted my growth as a person. Looking back now, it's a reminder to myself that I can still hope and dream and wonder even as an adult. Like how Alice remembers that too.
That scream at the beginning 😃✌️
Yes
@@rxbeccarose your poor vocal cords
I like the Hatter quoting the Jabberwock poem when he's walking with Alice.
I love Alice in wonderland, no matter what adaptation it is , I just love the initial idea behind it
Thanks for helping me rediscover this movie. The last time I saw it, I was ten and in the theaters.
I have it on DVD.
So the whole reason why in this first one it looks very gloomy it’s because Tim Burton want to make it look like as if the whole place was ruled by the red queen, which is why everything is destroyed. And then the second one everything is a lot more colorful because the red queen is no longer the queen, so everything is more cheery
I personally just preferred the original Disney animated version.
fair enough, i mightve too but its been so long 😭
I loved this movie when i was little. I dont know why people hate it so much
Big mood
Dude, your audience is here to hear you speak. You are interesting, and creative. Give us full introductions.
She gets prettier every time I see her. I like that brade in her hair
'It wasn't that bad, y'all are just mean' PREACH. Also, I love that everyone who admits this movie is good also agrees that Avril Lavigne is a queen
"He growled 😏"
I think it all comes down to preference. Like you, I enjoy films with darker themes and characters we know and love being presented in a new light. I don’t think I would have liked this film if it had been a straight book to movie everything’s the same. I think the dark themes work really well for this kind of world because everything is so crazy and wonky. I don’t understand why people think it’s terrible, because it wasn’t. People also throw around nostalgia like it’s a bad thing. Now, I get that if you truly butcher some aspect of the story or a character and I get how relying on the power of it can make a movie not as good. In this case though, it just continued to intrigue me. It didn’t rely on nostalgia completely. These characters, to me, seemed like very interesting and compelling and original interpretations and I liked the vibe.
I think this movie is good because it not only incorporates the original film but adds to it as a fully fledged sequel as not just some reimagining.
I didn’t know people disliked it- I LOVED these movies and still do ✋🏾😊❤️
ahhhhh yayyyyy i love this film!!!! but alice through the looking glass (the second one) has to be up there with one of my favourite disney movies!! genuinely confused at how you can't like this adaptation
Ooooh that’s interesting cause I’ve never seen the second one...
I grew up with Disney's Alice in Wonderland and the books (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass: And What Alice Found There) but I was really excited when this came out and really loved it.
How was it that i never noticed the connections to the real world till you started spelling them out for me?! 😲🤯
The scene when hatter gets mad to Cheshire cat and rings under the eyes gets darker is basically a meltdown. I know how feels like
Danny Elfman (the composer) with the music is the perfect person for this movie!! Hence, Tim Burton and Danny Elfman being the perfect duo!!!!
The answer for the raven question is notes. They both contain notes, music notes for music and normal notes for the writing desk.
9:48 And she's talking about eating caviar in front of a fish
Got here as fast as I could cuz I went to bed at 6am and woke up at 9am... lmaoo
I appreciate u legend but get better sleep PLEASE 😭😹
@@rxbeccarose lmaoo ok!
this is my favorite as a kid and now I just saw that people hated it T-T LIKE WHATT ITS SO GOOOOD
“Why is a raven like a writing desk”
From what I’ve read Lewis Carrol didn’t have a direct answer to the riddle but one suggestion is that Poe wrote on both
Been waiting for you to upload💕
hell yeah legend
The reason this movie is disliked is more to do with the fact that the movie does the complete opposite of what it’s pretending to be about (going against the system and doing your own thing, even though the entire movie is her fulfilling a prophecy she doesn’t want to be apart of)
this has always been my favourite disney movie. iconic
11:35, actually, most of the elements in the original story came from Alice Liddell, the real life inspiration of the book's main character.
I have such a big crush on Anne in this movie. Her White Queen is just iconic and she is just so mysterious!
What the? I always thought that everybody liked this movie? This is news to me. I loved it when I was little 😐
I remember seeing this in theaters. I had so much fun with my grandmother
Honestly I loved the live action versions of AIW. Yeah it’s weird and bizarre but that’s.....that’s kinda what Wonderland is😅
The ending of the book is her waking up so yeah it was all a dream.
I pretend I do not see
@@rxbeccarose Basically me reading that ending
This sign cannot stop me bc I cannot read
avril's song in the end credits gets me everytime 👏🏾👏🏾
It’s a classic
@@rxbeccarose ikr
Could I recommend Edward Scissorhands or Corpse Bride?
The answer for the "Why its a Raven like a writing desk" Is because they both produce a few notes. Lewis Carroll said it but the answer isn't really famous because there wasn't really an answer.
I know right, I love this version of Alice in wonderland. I mean, the story can be interpreted any way you like, tim Burton just gave in his two cents and it was a fun movie.
That's the freaking Alan Rickman who voiced Absolem the Caterpillar
_The aesthetic of the movie is nice, but it doesn't feel very... Alice in Wonderland-ish and more like a generic fantasy movie in my opinion. At least it helped Tim Burton make Frankenweenie._
Wait who doesn’t like this movie? I’ve always really liked this and also the second one, Alice trough the looking glass! This really makes me want to re-watch both of these movies. Also it would be fun if you’d react to the second movie, or make commentary if you have seen it already :)
I just realized, why is it that the beginning of this movie seems like a flashback as to why she was murdered like in a mystery movie?
I understand like not all live action is good but this one was great and I enjoyed it. The live action Alice in wonderland is a continuation of the original story and as we grow older brighter colors fade slightly and it’s more mature and enjoyable
Wait there are people who think this movie is bad???? Tasteless😔
Well, now you just have to react to the sequel (which has an equally as amazing Pink song in it's credits)!
I left my nephew’s first birthday party very early to go see this movie when it came out in theaters. To this day I do not regret it! Loved the movie.
I will always love this film! Still my favourite live action Disney remake
As a kid, I used to call the crescent moon the Cheshire Cat’s teeth.

I really loved this as a kid with the posters, the trailers the super bowl spot, dont know if its a certain nostalgia with it or something more. I always once in a while go onto disney plus and watch it

I guess there's a chance that Aunt Imogen did know a prince, but that he just ditched her telling her he'd come back for her.
it was my fav movie as a kid, doesn't make any sense to me that some people hate it
A raven is like a writing table bc it craw craw craw-ligraphy. (calligraphy)😁 made that up now. Could be the answer. 🤷🏾♀️
