Having sailed in 8 meter waves, I'm amazed at just how relaxed Erik is! Also, it's such a shame that videos never do justice to the size of big waves at sea.
@@CHRIS198490 No real difference. Keel type and hull shape are more important. Sure steel boats are heavier, but a fiberglass boat with a full keel would not only have the weight, but also have down low where it is more effective. But I would NEVER want to be out in those conditions in a catamaran. I've sailed past catamarans in those sorts of conditions. Man it looks awful. @sail4life catamarans are more stable, until they aren't anymore, then it is awful. cats are stable in calm seas.
Someday i am going to really really regret not going to sea. I have only been near it a handful of times in my life but i felt this strong urge to be near it every time. I get nostalgic almost reading O'Brian and the rest. And i am almost too old to even start now, the years go by so fast.
Just watching those following waves and knowing just what they look like as they tower over the cockpit is that crazy rush you enjoy as much as you fear it. Tessie is a fine girl. She won't let you down. I envy you both Erik.
Nothing like water to make you feel alive! It's the same feeling I get when I'm climbing to a mountain peak against a rocky path. Good that you made a video of the experience. We all need to feel a rush like this.
Correct me if I am wrong but if the wave barely touches the horizon, then it is ptetty much the same height as your eyeball/camera is off the water. It looks like he is sitting, that makes the wave a realistic 2,5 to 3m, maybe peaks of 3,5m. Also: I would expect a lot more white water and spray in 6-7 m waves. The waves seem fairly close together (high frequency), it is most likly not an old swell from a storm far away. Nice video, nice sailing, very calm and good seamanship. But 6-7m waves... seems a little exaggerated.
You know what I always say to myself, when I again desire to open your channel???😊😊 Hi Erik!! Lets sail togather again!!! 😂😂 So perfect your videos...lovin' it!!!🎉🎉🎉thx man...Pepe from Czech republic❤🎉 AHOJ!!! It's Hi in czech language as well tho...😂😂😂
Outstanding. No one has looked more alive in any video on CZcams! Seriously. Also, a question: what is that object on top of the winch? Bracket for something?
It would be so cool if in the future you found a way to capture those waves in 3d somehow to better show the people at home the sheer scale of these waves. Stay safe out there!
Those are huge waves and he seems pretty relaxed. I sail a 43' Columbia mono haul and am currently sailing fom calif coast to tue Caribbean. Ive experienced similar waves and they definitely get your heart pumping especially sailing alone. Just me, Thelma and Louise my two border collies😁👍
Erik I just don't know how your stay so calm I was put sailing with a friend, we hit 5m swell, that was scary but im getting use to it now I've overcome my sea sickness keep safe bra out there 🫵🏾🤙🏾
7 meters is not so bad, at the Draupner platform a rogue wave of more than 25 maters was recorded. Imagine that monster suddenly appearing in front of you...
Wait til they get even bigger and atart breaking over your boat and iinto the cockpit. We had both washboards duct taped up inside and out, a sailbag with sail in it lashed in front of the companionway. It was a truly freightening 4 day experience. We couldnt heave to and juat rode down monster waves at up to 19.8kn of boat speed. At least i had another helmsman to share the load with. Totally insane.
oh boy,do I know exactly what this guy is feeling, sensory over load dancing on the edge of disaster all while feeling total exileration time slows down to a crawl and focus is razor sharp . Satisfying and addictive
If you know you know. Off shore Albacore fishing with a bud on the Oregon Coast in his 24 foot Northwest Jet in conditions like this. It was not fun. We were very glad to be on shore.
A sea anchor would do you well if it gets worse than that. Even as it is, it would do you sailing well in those conditions. Video never transmits the intensity of the sea state but I know what you mean. Fair winds!
That's incredible footage as always. Thanks for sharing! Sorry, I'm a novice with an eye on retirement. May I ask what sailboat you have as an idea for what can handle such conditions?
Things are expensive now but if there is one thing I will never have a problem paying a premium for it’s seafood. Those fishermen deserve every last penny.
Gus is where I learned to sail and sailed many years, not knowing it’s not like this in most other places. Until I left and found myself is Asia where most days the seas look like a swimming pool. But then… worst thing about the North Sea ( especially sept-April.. ) is that if you where to fall in the water you have 2-3 minutes until hypothermia gets the better if you.. if you’re not out in. 5 minutes you’re likely to die. ..I still love the sight of this… never underestimate any sea.. stay safe.

I would be terrified
would be better to be in steel sailboat or alu or no difference ?
@@CHRIS198490 a humongous catamaran would be my preference but bigger is always better in waves.
Ex Marine Nationale....en mer par tout les temps..

When the sailor you watch that sails the roughest sea on the regular starts saying oh shit, you know its dangerous lol
Yup lol
He was loving it! The adrenaline rush must have been amazing!
Perfect weather to test out the cooking stove and make some coffee. 🤠👍
Amen
That is THE most Scandinavian man I have ever seen🎉
now imagine him 1000 years ago with an iron helmet, wooden shield, and bearded axe stepping off a longboat. now THAT is Scandinavian!
Oh shit is right Erik. Those are some scary seas. I'm also a sailor and those waves are serious. Fair winds my friend ❤
Really nice waves! And she is rolling very nice. Enjoy and take care
Cresting big swell, cold water and a good boat. So nice to see 🌊👀Sail on Captain! ⛵️👍🏽
be safe Erik and enjoy your adventure
Crazy Viking 😂
Jeez and 1.5 meter waves scare me in the Georgian Bay! You are one tough sailor!
It depends to the size of the boat!
But, yes! It looks scary! ;-)
😃😄💝👏It's good to see this captain of the 7 seas happy in his favorite and natural element.Be well Erik, always take care of yourself.
My fav craziest sailor on the tube :)
His heart is in his throat guys. Meanwhile his Tessi is handling those waves like a boss.😎 😂😂
A stroll in the park with an open hatch.
Tessie is doing really great
"Those aren't mountains... they're waves."
😂😂😂😂
My favorite thing is waking up from a cat nap offshore in the cockpit and looking up at waves.😊
Oh my Lord that's beautiful I'd much rather be out there than holding a wrench all day and staying greasy😉👍⛵
LOL no fuck that
It's fantastic how well Tessi copes with the conditions.😊

Чистый фордевинд...паруса бабочкой.😅😅😅
Looks amazing love it. Looks like a normal day sailing is South Africa😂
Was thinking the same thing 😂
Wow, that is absolutely stunning! I guess that Really makes you feel alive!💪👍
Big respect for this guy! 🇵🇭
It makes meals more enjoyable…just like sleep! 😅🇺🇸🛜
As long they don't break into the cockpit its ok😂😂😂
A REAL Sailor. #respect

Literally me taking my sloop out in valheim to open waters for the first time
Your eyes are as blue as the sea. Wishing you safe travels❤❤❤

This Will be a great episode coming up I'm sure! JSNB is one of my favorite sailing channels on CZcams.
Who needs coffee when you get a nice cold wash of adrenaline! 😂🙈🍻
It isn't the height of the wave that's a problem, it's the steepness.
Oh boy, if you only knew how scared the sailors on the Baltic Sea are. love ur channel, ur a real sailor

Your little boat is doing well. 🧡
Holy shit! Surf’s up…stoked!

Looks so exhilarating to say the least. Thank you for shareing your adventures..
I just became a new subscriber.
You are the captain so is you keeping her afloat and not going down. You must know what you’re doing!
Imagine if this is huge the what about posiedon
Very refreshing to see a YT short of big waves on the ocean without hearing some variation of "Yooooo hooooo all hands"
It looks so much more peaceful on a sailboat than one of those huge containers lol
Go Viking Go. Great trip!
That looks SO FUN!!!! Thank you for inspiring so many.
Earth. Boss of its Domain! Beautiful!
That’s intense! Smaller on camera too
Outstanding. No one has looked more alive in any video on CZcams! Seriously.

Went through bay of Biscay on Ocean liner and waves were 20 feet.
Jesus dude, I was out in 2 meter rollers in a 23 foot sail boat and that was a little nerve racking; that's incredible dude. Stay safe.
My butt clenched just watching this on my couch 😂lol
Amazing, wishing you fair winds and smooth sailing.
The toughest lad on this planet, one who sails solo on the rough North seas.
Stay safe viking warrior.Respect 🙏👍
It would be so cool if in the future you found a way to capture those waves in 3d somehow to better show the people at home the sheer scale of these waves.
Stay safe out there!
Yer a courageous lad matey!
Wind von "Raum " ist wunderbar... Die Wellen von Hinten: traumhaft!
Geez Captain, Don't get scared now!!
Just noticed the title and clicked
on it fast. Should’ve known it was you! 😆

guys how do you measure this waves? to me they like 3-4 meters
Waves are like that, when we pass large vessels, in the Mississippi River. Not a pleasant experience in an 18’ bateau.
If you know you know. Off shore Albacore fishing with a bud on the Oregon Coast in his 24 foot Northwest Jet in conditions like this. It was not fun. We were very glad to be on shore.
Wow!! You have definitely conquered your fears!! Very inspiring😊😊😊

Yeah I would be making sure that I had at least a couple of warps ready to throw astern.
That's incredible footage as always. Thanks for sharing! Sorry, I'm a novice with an eye on retirement. May I ask what sailboat you have as an idea for what can handle such conditions?
Nevermind a good boat, if you are a novice just don't even THINK ABOUT sailing in 6-7 metre swell.
Contessa 34' OOD
32 foot I believe
At least they're following seas, you're not going into it. Good luck sleeping in that.
Great stuff!
Gotta have a love for it to be sailing in that....good onya!!
Celia squeaking so high only dogs can hear 😂😂
To me, thats good sailing weather for open ocean...nothing bad is happening there its perfect. Try doing a Sidney to Hobart...
Things are expensive now but if there is one thing I will never have a problem paying a premium for it’s seafood. Those fishermen deserve every last penny.
I wish i can experience this ride one day ❤
i reccomend if theres a curved wave make sure to go straight overwise it will flip
Take care!! 👍
Your a mad man hahaha good luck sailor
Doesn’t look to bad when I see from my couch, well done 👏🎉😂
What os they trade Mark of your boat grat viking
Been there many times! Hang on and enjoy the ride! 🏴☠️💙

Man your crazy. Sick videos man
thats why i love my double ender it surfs down waves so well
Это шикарные волны!!! По ним катиться одно удовольствие!
Но есть факт,- это предел для комфортных волн...
Если немного сильнее, то уже опасно!
Good thing those 8 meter waves don’t happen at night when it’s pitch black out there in the middle of the sea!
Erik comes from Viking blood!! Natural salior, and badass!!!!
Fair wind and following seas :-) - looks great.
Woooow. 😮 craziness. Amazing how these boats roll so much but don't go over 😮😅
The North Sea in a sailboat?!?! I’ve seen some cargo ships and oil tankers that got smashed around. This is scary af. I hope there’s no pets on board.
This is why Hallberg Rassy are built in the way they are...
Tessie in her element there!
Some Jimi Hendrix music would go great with this, wish CZcams wouldn’t strike it. 👍🎸😎✌️
Definitely impressive waves. Brave sailor.
looks fun bro, stay safe in those dunes
That looks fun!
Awesome!
Nicely done! Rode the crest of the wave
Heart in your throat! I’d be crying like a baby begging to go home
Man, your addicted to anxiety lol 😂 good luck ❤
It’s a swell. Be thankful they work with you.
OMG 😱 Well done mate! ⛵
(I'm 💩my pants with those waves!!! )
