I took a failed 3 year old dehumidifier that had a refrigerant leak that couldn't be found and turned it into an alternate compressor and refrigerant experiment.
Very nice! That runs very well and it does look like you got the charge spot-on. The Embraco unit you have there is going to have a long life lightly loaded. Those are good compressors in general. It's amazing how much water is in the air, when you think about it. The issues with flooding back can be helped with a small suction accumulator, if that had been a serious problem. I was about to make up an accumulator but after adjusting cap tube length and going up in diameter from .049 to .052 I realized that I just had too much displacement and not enough heat transfer for the R290. The data proves you can’t stuff 6000 btu through a 4000 btu coil. The initial R152A test was just a whim before I added the accumulator and the system performance just dropped right into line. Obviously it’s not ideal but I’m amazed it works as well as it does.
You seem very knowledgeable with these things, What will happen if I put a normal dehumidifier in a hot 60 degrees Celsius room with about 80% humidity, do you know what will fail and why will it fail, I cannot find an answer anywhere on the net. Will the evaporator get too hot? Maybe the pipes will have over pressure? What do you think might be done to a dehumidifier in order to work at 60 deg effectively?
