As a GenXer I find it comforting and helpful to go back and watch these old videos from the world I grew up in. It's been so obscured by what's gone on so far in the 21st century that it's easy to forget. The world of the 80s and 90s is gone, and what has replaced it doesn't impress me one bit.

Very theatrical style, which was his background. Not the type of actor who can “lose himself” in a part, but always one to competently perform. A rather ambitious and ego-driven individual, which sort of explains his successes as Captain Kirk since that was the perfect character and role for him to play.

@@bradhuskers Uh, I think you are mis-remembering or are misinformed. That’s not what happened. That line came from a skit he did on SNL in the 80s. It was a legit hit and was very funny. He then used it as the title for one of his non-fiction books, about his experiences with fans and at conventions. I doubt he ever actually said that before a real convention. It would not go over well with that audience and Shatner is nothing other than a crowd-pleaser. He lives for applause. Unless he was making some kind of joke with it or referring to his book for sale, I don’t see him doing it at all, much less saying it first. I’ve seen a couple of his convention appearances. It never came up.

I think if you look up his biography you’ll find that he was involved in acting in Canada from a very young age, graduated from McGill with a commerce degree, did some management in the field while playing a prominent role in canadian theatre long before he got to the US. Now I don’t know the man personally but something tells me you don’t “produce”Shatner. The guy just got back from space. He’s quite elderly and he’d still probably kick my ass. Shatner is one of the few I’ve seen on here who kindly hands Carson his hat. And I always admired Carson. But Shatner, I’m pretty sure he does it his way.
