- Text:
Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor.
Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur.
Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum.
Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.
Translation:
Where charity and love are, God is there.
Christ’s love has gathered us into one.
Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him.
Let us fear, and let us love the living God.
And may we love each other with a sincere heart.

I go to the Latin Mass, I hear this hymn occasionally, but this sounded like Heaven on Earth. Absolutely beautiful. Please consider doing more.
St. Cecilia gave us a teaser at the hour of her death. There must have been music in Heaven an infinite-fold more beautiful than this already gorgeous arrangement. Hard to imagine, no? :)
St Augustine said, “He who sings, prays twice.” This was a beautiful prayer! Thank you!
Sorry, but he didn't say that
@@rafaelhenrique6281 Don't believe everything you read on the internet about not believing everything you read on the internet. The title of one of Augustine's sermons is "cantare amantis est", which literally translates, "Singing is loving", or translating with the sentiment of his sermon, "Singing belongs to the one who loves". Whether or not he did or did not also say, "bis orat qui cantat" (whoever sings prays twice) is open to debate. Traditionally both the title of his sermon and that Latin phrase have been handed down together. Given that Augustine wrote in his books (which remain complete) and preached through his sermons (for which only selected pieces remain) so much on the subject of loving and praying, there is little reason to doubt he said it just because the exact quote can't be found in any of his remaining written works.
Nevertheless good thought and intention. Whoever said that, doesn't matter. It is universal and good to share thoughts as every relighted persons do and did in the past.
@@Euler13 wow! That was a powerful message❤❤❤❤
@@rafaelhenrique6281 SOMEone said it... probably earlier -- and I think these guys prayed 100 times with this! :)
Breathtaking. My wife said: "This is what the world needs more of."
Please tell your wife she is right on!!
i love your wife 🙌
She’s literally correct. This is the liturgical text sung during Holy Thursday Mass during the foot washing.
I totally agree with her
I agree!
The music and voices are stunningly beautiful, as others have noted, but what I love is that no one is reaching or grabbing for a note. The melodies and harmonies just float on the air after a collective breath. The sense of forward motion propels the line and the delicate ebb and flow of the phrasing is breathtaking. The suspensions and resolutions are gentle and unforced. This is world class singing. And, the musicality and soulfulness of the performers touches my heart deeply. Thank you, gentlemen. May you sing forever.
Really well put.
🎯😘💪🏾🎙🎹🎶🎵
I am in awe of the grace, talent, and beauty on display here. Masculine, meek, gentle. This is a piece of heaven touching earth. The secular music industry is incapable of producing something so heavenly.
I’m an atheist and I enjoyed this too
I second your statement, Michael
This made me cry! Their voices are so pure, and Gregorian music requires such precision, but I think this is literally the best I've ever heard this!! This was seriously so uplifting to stumble upon
Not gregorian, this is a contemporary musical setting by Ola Gjeilo of an ancient hymn.
You moved this British atheist to tears. So beautiful.
Your comment made me chuckle with joy while I was thinking about how wonderfully impressed I was enjoying this too!! LoL 😆 it's no mistake you have arrived to get a glimpse of the Blessing here for you and your whole family tree!
When your heartstrings are pulled in an unexpected direction, follow them up to your brain and learn why. Read, listen, confirm or debunk your athiesm.
@@mctrimm7097 That's very kind, but it's rather like asking you to believe in Santa again.
@@PaulBeney Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience by Pim van Lommel. It's not a religious book, the author is a Dutch cardiologist. Well worth reading, besides the many other scientific research on the subject his is the one I recommend. There is something to it. Our souls do not die.
That's helpful feedback. Truth, Beauty, Goodness. Transcendentals knocking on the door.
My husband found me listening to this & crying. "Too beautiful?" he asked? I just sniffled & nodded.
4 personnes dans un escalier; une partition inspirée: la beauté, la paix du Christ sont au rendez vous grâce vos belles voix: c'est sublime et plein d'espérance. Bravo et de tout coeur merci
As a French guy going every sunday to the Latin Mass I can say this gregorian interpretation of "Ubi carita est" is awesome. Well done guys to make discover to many people the beauty of the gregorian chant. Hope you'll do more !
God bless you.
Not gregorian. I'll copy a reply I made elsewhere on this post: the text is ancient but the musical setting is a modern composition by Ola Gjeilo. Since you like this, you'll also like his other works and probably also sacred and secular works by Arvo Paert, Eric Whitacre, James MacMillan, John Tavener and others.
Actually, this setting is by the still-young Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, living in the United Sates.
Wow, incredible, that’s great news. You’d think no one wrote music like this anymore.
c'est tout à fait magnifique 🙌
@@sdalby9127 but it is inspired by it, although it's harmonized.
WOW jsut WOW !!!
Praise the Lord who has given them such maginificent voices to sing heavenly music.
Best comment. 😀
You guys make every place a church, every sound a blessing. Thank you for all you do!
!!!! I sang this setting with a SATB choir a few years ago, and vividly remember these beautiful harmonies. This is the most brilliant performance of it that I can imagine. It's like a whole new world listening to this. I love the video that makes it look like you're just jamming in the hall. I can just imagine the rehearsal and preparation that went into this level of performance. MORE!
Yes yes! Right!?
I am positive now... you have somehow found the staircase where all the Holy Angels take their breaks... and whenever you start singing they join in!!!
Where charity and love is, God is there ..Christ joins us together. Let’s not forget this in these difficult times.
This moved me to tears. Your arrangements are unique and your harmony soaringly beautiful. Please record more, especially sacred music like "Ubi Caritas"!
Stunningly beautiful. That final "Amen" was like the gates of Heaven opening up and being welcomed inside.
This rendition of Ubi Caritas I find to be truly sublime..."Where charity and love are, there is God"...what an ideal for an increasingly self-oriented and contentious generation...
I would like the original master recordings for both this video and the song if anyone can help with...
I melted at 0:33, when the monophony became homophonic, then receded back, and flowered again, each time the harmonies more elaborate, even growing dissonant, but always, consistently elegant.
Hard to believe only 4 voices can sing this with so much auditory depth. Well done, gentlemen!!
Incredibly beautiful!!!
Lifted my spirits. With all that's going on beautiful music is such great medicine for the soul....Thank you🙏
What a privilege it is to hear the magnificence of these young men’s voices, transporting us to a place where words seem inadequate to describe the joy and peace they have brought us. More, please, gentlemen!
Thank you for sharing your heavenly voices......stunningly serene, beautiful. May God be with you all
I am thankful that people refuse to stop singing and sing to praise God.
I am in sheer awe at the intensity that these guys bring to the chant. It is in every sense of the word an awesome experience. Bless you, you saintly men.
And the God and Goddess that is within us that wants to be lived. May we all find our way. Blessings to all.
Barbara Stott lol wrong neck of the woods lady
Amen!
I have goosebumps all the way up my arms. Marvelous, simply marvelous. Well done gentlemen, VERY well done.
How beautiful! I hope we hear more from you in the future. In the meantime, I’m going to replay this over and over again!
So glad that DAN RATHER's blog post this morning suggested I listen to this! Great way to start the day.. beautiful
God lives here in these halls, and in the hearts of the men. Oremus. 🙏✝️
I can’t get enough of these beautiful voices!! Wow!!! Angelic voices on earth.
I cannot stop listening. Mesmerizing. Beautiful. Glorious. Uplifting. Thank you.
People working/living in that bulding are the luckiest ones.
👍🙏🏻I’m in SE Louisiana recovering from Hurricane Ida - just saw this performance on Reddit - I wept - thank you for this beauty - today, I am blessed✊ 🙏🏻☝️😔🇺🇸
This video definitely made me cry. Black men. Beautiful operatic voices. Hitting EVERY SINGLE NOTE PERFECTLY. My heart melts ❤
I can't stop listening to this! Exquisite. You as a group are the voices of angels.I can feel God's love through your voices. Thanks for the inspiration.
Simply breathtaking!! Voices of angels!!
Easily one of the most utterly beautiful things I have ever had the pleasure and honor of hearing.
👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
I m a french Citizen. Your song cross the world. Please don't stop guys
My heart is crying out for peace in our land 😢
America is torn with hatred and killing. The peace of God is what we long for. The Kings Return took us on that journey to a land of peace.
The a capella song, 'Ubi Caritas"that they sung was very therapeutic, exquisite and refreshing. It made me long for Heaven. The song was sung sitting on a stairwell . What a beautiful sound! One could close one's eyes and imagine that the song was being sung in a cathedral with many voices. Breathtaking!
God bless these young men 🙏
May you keep singing for God. 🙌🏽
This song brought me such peace after my mom died last year. I know she is with God now and that I will see her again. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful gift you all possess.
I hope you're blessed by forgiving your mom, alone.
Maybe i should have deleted this comment, but i thought i'd rather tell you why i wrote it. this is playing in the backround in a different tab, while this song was mute: czcams.com/video/hwxDyc8i_sw/video.html
Love you. God bless!
For me, my definition of perfection, this is perfect!!!
Thank you each one 🌈🦋🤗 xx
sublime. i just listened to this 5 times, and i type this, tears running down my face, can barely see what im typing.should this be authentic, and if these 4 young men did this, in a stair well, with presumably minimal studio help, they all should be household names before long. this was amazing, breath taking, tear jerking. Perfect in every way. thank you for sharing.
Do you have an album with all chant???? If not, please please consider!
I agree. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Please produce more Latin chants, we need to your voices to lift our spirits! Thankyou!
I’d buy any album from these gentlemen in a heartbeat. Some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard.
@@kris580 I would buy and album by these gentlement in a heartbeat too Kris. They are absolute perfection.
I will buy your album of chants also, if you produce it. This is wonderful
What a beautiful musical setting and performance of this text by these young men. This brought me to tears and gave me chills, truly a stairwell to heaven.
Thank You - Thank You - Thank You. I am carrying more burdens than I can bear right now --- and your voices took me right into the loving arms of Jesus. Bless you!!!
It’s the understatement of the year but - absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Thank you. God bless.
Blessings on you my brothers. Singing and chanting in church's has been banned here in CA, until further notice, in an effort to stem the surging Covid-19 cases. So, to have this to share with my fellow parishioners is truly a blessing. Thank you.
Four guys in a stairwell sound like Angels in a great Cathedral-richness and glory. And the tears in my eyes blur the computer screen into rainbows of color.
This has become very popular of late and as a chorister I think we have sung it 4 or 5 times in the last year. There is some really top class modern sacred music that I think will stay in the repertoire for decades if not centuries, and I'm glad it's finding new audiences! This is a really good performance helped by the acoustic of the stairwell.
When I listen, I can't believe I'm hearing only four singers! Thank you for creating such beauty
3 people were so blinded by the eternal Light of heaven after hearing this that they clicked the wrong button
Great comment but I have another take. The 3 (now 5 as of this writing) are terrified antifa goons. Terrified of 4 black gentlemen singing praises to God in an ancient Roman Catholic modality. Absolutely stunning rendition of this piece. Please pray for me.
@@claireandkitty Just said a prayer for you. Note that the text is ancient but the musical setting is a modern composition by Ola Gjeilo. Since you like this, you'll also like his other works and probably also sacred and secular works by Arvo Paert, Eric Whitacre, James MacMillan, John Tavener and others.
@@claireandkitty Doesn''t make sense. "Antifa" is short for anti-fascist which Catholic teachings definitely are. So what point are you trying to make?
@@claireandkitty absolutely.
Wow wow wow wow and wooooooooooooooow I like it, I love you. what some wonderful voicies. Greetings from Belgium.
Absolutely gorgeous!!!! Thank you for this timely reminder of*why* we need to love our neighbor -- because "where charity and love are, God is there".
Thank you for this spiritual nutrition, my brothers! God bless you all.
Thanks a lot for the force of this song, your voices and your faith ! It arrived till the mountains of Switzerland!
Vocal perfection. Absolutely beautiful.
Imagine going down the stairs to your next class and running into this😍
this blend!!! im cryin in da club
What a blessing to here these young men! They are inspired by God!!
This is painfully BEAUTIFUL! You made me cry! I shared it with lots of people on Facebook. Bless you all!!!
How can you not be moved. This is an earthly angelic choir. Outstanding.
Impeccable intonation and tone without using vibrato - especially when one has trained and used a natural vibrato in almost everything else they sing - is no small feat! At the same time, it's central to what makes Gregorian chant sound so pure and angelic. Above and beyond your usual stellar skills, this was amazing and a treat to listen to. Thank you and God bless you all!
incredibly beautiful! THANK YOU!
5th voice in that hallway is insane. Somebody buy that hallway and make it a studio, lol.
You transported me with your harmony beyond all the things that worry and frighten me, and reminded me with your rich voices that God is with me. How can I adequately thank you for that?
Whoever is doing that moving part on “demur” usually an alto voice, it is beautiful executed and it catapults everyone into the next section!
Wow! That was absolutely magnificent!!! Your voices are a true gift from God! Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent!!
So beautiful and soothing for my mind & soul. I am not Catholic or very religious but whenever I hear these chants ... it makes me feel peace. Sometimes when dealing with stress & anxiety I find these chants help me cope ♥️😍
I am a staunch secular.
However churches and Cathedrals have that beautiful echo and ...spiritual feeling.
Thoses young men in that hallway are sublime.
Beats 200 years of hard labor to build thoses said Cathedrals...!
OMG!! So beautiful!! Their singing leaves you speechless.
This gives me goosebumps everywhere and I'm crying because it is so beautiful. Thank you SO much. Oh My God. You gentlemen are God's gift. Thank you. Love and peace to you.
Proof that miracles do happen: Kings Return Music. Thank you for the gift of your art. God bless you.
GORGEOUS -- thank you:) with blessings to all !
This is gorgeous. You men are so talented and give so much glory to God with your gifts.
There is a beauty to Latin chant that reflects the glory of God’s presence with us.
Thank you, St. Paul the Apostle in NYC, for covering this sacred piece of music in these oh-so-uncertain and disconcerting times. This is PEACE!
Another breathtaking Latin hymn. This is ministry when we need it most. You are such a gift to us.
EXCELLENT! This is the kind of worship that elevates my ❤ heart.
PRAISE BE TO GOD
Even though I'm Muslim, this resonates with my soul in ways I've never felt before. Reminds me of the days I used to attend Sunday mass in Egypt ❤️(I was Roman Catholic before). It makes me feel closer to God. All faiths live in me❤️ Praise be to HIM! ❤️
Beautiful my fellow Catholics - as your beautiful voices rise to Heaven from the stairwell with the great acoustics! God bless you, from Australia.
Ola Gjeilo, living Norwegian composer. Consummate musicians, simply lovely performance. Music has the power to unite us.
This is very special - an immaculate performance of this millenia-old chant. I can't wait to share this with my black students
This isn't the original chant, it's a composition by Ola Gjelo, a modern Norwegian composer. Still very much worth sharing!
There is some irony here. A bunch of guys sitting on stairs provide sacred music that we cannot hear in church nowadays. Thank you, gentlemen! Factum bene!
The harmonies, the dynamics, the dissonance and resolution. I literally forgot to breathe at moments.
Words cannot even begin to explain how this made me feel. You are all amazing for the beauty you send in His name. His gifts are wonderful!
Wow. Thousands showing you appreciation, love and not but a drop showing you otherwise.
Sometimes something so purely beautiful is simply too powerful to behold.
Well done gentlemen, well done!!! You've made many people happy with this!
Love from India. Jesus bless
Your singing voices are so beautiful to hear! ❤ It touched my soul. God bless you all!
The hair on my neck and arms stood straight up. This was the most beautiful redition of this hymn I've ever heard. And to hear it sung by some fine ass men in a stairwell... There are no words. Thank you so much for this. Brought me back to my chior-nerd roots, I needed that.
My brothers, I thank you for your music and artistry. It's so rare to find our own tackling this repertoire, and I'm so pleased you chose to share with us!!
Wow! You guys need to sing more songs like this! I would by your album if it was all Chant. Viva Cristo Rey!
Praise be to God. Thank you for the blessing of this beautiful edifying music.
This is breathtaking. I so needed this inspiration and beauty today. ❤️ Thank you so much. This made me cry and lifted my spirit in a deeply profound way. I have no words.
Ad majorem Dei gloriam!
Thank you for making the universe more joyful ! Your voices are exceptional.
Changed my life. Such rich tones. Holy balls
I have no words. The beauty of your voices leaves me speechless.
Stunning. More, more, more!!! Encore!!!!! My teen sons and I are blown away.
The Good, The True and The Beautiful....compelling.
Utterly gorgeous how in all ways you are "in tune" with one another for this song

Magnifique ! Merci à vous 4. Devant le St Sacrement j'ai souvent l habitude d entonner ce refrain. Je penserai à vous et prierai pour vous la prochaine fois !
What a beautiful gift they have given us all.. I could listen to this all day.. singing/music is so therapeutic.. how appropriate that they are singing this in the stairwell of a hospital.. may God bless them for sharing their gift.🙏🙏🙏
