I literally just got back from this hotel in Cancun last week. Everything has it's pro's and con's, so here's my list.
    Pro's:
-Perfect location on a beautiful beach; close to all the Motel Zone attractions, a large room for only $150 per night.
    Con's:
-My room stunk with a strong a mildew smell. It rained on my stay, and the bathroom ceiling leaked. I was on the 4th floor of an eight story building. A guy came in with epoxy and repaired the leak. I bought a can of Frabreeze and painted the walls with it.
-The hot water in the shower took about five minutes to warm up. There was also a puddle on the shower floor that never drained into the drain, the water just sat there because it was lower than the drain.
-The door had a huge gap in it that would make it very easy to defeat the lock, and there was no internal lock to make sure that no one with a key could gain access while you were sleeping. I put a chair in front of the door while I slept.
-The thermostat was either on or off. There was a dial, but you could turn it to 85 and you'd still freeze your ass off. And there was a label on the thermo that read "Leave the AC on." I think it was because of the humidity.
-There was a trash can next to the toilet, I guess it meant you were not supposed to flush the toilet paper, but no sign. So of course I flushed it anyway, and almost clogged the toilet.
-There was no shuttle to the airport, which meant you were at the mercy of all the scam artist taxi drivers.
-I bought two golf ball sized scoops of ice cream in the lobby, and it costed about $8. It was the worst mint chocolate chip that I ever tasted and the most expensive at the same time.
There were several other complaints, but that's all I can think of now. All in all, Cancun has beautiful beaches and weather, but I don't think I would go there again or recommend it to anyone. You constantly get accosted by the street vendors, and you have a feeling that you are being ripped off all the time. I kept telling myself, first world prices and third world quality on just about everything.

Thank you! It was in the beginning of September last year. I don't remember a strong smell, but there was a lot of seaweed. You can check their live webcam to see how's seaweed situation.

It's very close to many nightlife spots in Cancun, just walking distance. It's quite safe, but it's better to always be careful and not to get too drunk 🙂

Stayed here last week. Worst hotel my family has ever stayed at. I don’t mind outdated fixtures, but our room was also very dirty with corners and edge of floor clearly black and brown from years of build up. Mold smell and freezing AC you can’t turn off. And we ate at the Hacienda Mortero during our all inclusive one night and it was not edible. Steak tasted questionable. We only stayed here until our booking across the street was ready the next day but this place almost ruined our trip it was so bad. Don’t stay here.
