#rc #airplane #glider
brilliant brian loved it . that was like my first glider about 40 years back.. an apexs 2 meter wing span hand lanched with one meter of surgical tubing and about 30 meters of fishing line .with a parachute attached to return the line after releasing the plane . back in the day lol. just running of 2 servos. rudder and elevator . had a 20 min flight time if hit a thermal . that got me hooked on r.c .they used to say a glider is harder to fly than a motor driven plane as teaches you to fly with just the elements ? took me back to my first plane . cheers .
Very cool! I'd like to try a rubber band launcher some day. I knew a guy who used to REALLY get into soaring, and thermaling, and they'd use a winch to pull the planes up! They'd fly for hours and hours!
Thanks for the video , great flying.... hope you are having a great Christmas...
Thanks, you too!
Thanks for your effort in making 2020 as normal as possible. Merry christmas to you and camera crew 😜😜😜
We are trying our best!!! The year has been weird, and I can't wait to get back to "normal". We're so lucky to be where we are now, as we have quite an advantage with space to spread out! Work has been less than desirable, at times, but all things considered, we had a good year!
Merry Christmas to you too!
Somehow, I can't see you being satisfied with a non-motorized soaring plane for very long with your love for "full throttle" flying. Haha. I always seem to learn something from you each time I watch your videos, even if it's something NOT to do. As I have said before, thank you for your educational instruction and wonderful humor with your great camera crew. Merry Christmas.
I would really only be interested in it in a slope soaring environment.
I'm working to tip the scales toward more "what to do" and less "what NOT to do" LOL!
@@BrianPhillipsRC
You should consider stacking your front yard hay bales in a long row 3 high, (triangle) with as much open space as possible. Perhaps at the top of the hill the furthest from the trees.
Edit. Oooops 11:40 Ya got me! ;-)
Holy Cow Christmas Content!!! You ARE the man!
More to come!
definitely bookmarked! i just opened my box! awesome looking plane!
Thanks! Awesome plane!!!
Pretty
Cool, I recently picked this bird up at my LHS and it’s a gentle giant
It's great!
Merry Christmas Phillips Family. God Bless
Merry Christmas to you too gregory h!
Merry Christmas to your entire family
Merry Christmas to you too!
Great video. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Same to you!
Great video, thank you!!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks Lone Star UAV!
Very cool, thank you guys.
You bet!
Not a glider guider myself, but your videographer is very good. Even with the warbirds and planes like the V1200. She could give lessons to a lot of R/C you tubers out there.
Totally agree! We didn't know how good she was when we started this...it was an invention of necessity, and she was the perfect camera crew for the job!!!
I think it is grate you and your wife share the planes together, my wife comes and watches me from time to time, 34 years we still enjoy each other’s company, and it’s things like this I believe that make it good😊😊😊
Well said! We do enjoy our time together, but she isn't really into the hobby...she's just into supporting my pursuits. I'm lucky she supports me!
Happy Xmas folks. Wow. That's an awesome bird. Great flying. 👍
Thanks, you too!
I enjoyed it alot Brian! I just robbed some electronics out of an old hobbyzone champ and I am making a little DLG to slope on a big hill I just found! Have a wonderful weekend
Have fun! Good luck - happy flying!
Courageous camera crew. Many thanks to you both and Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you too! thanks for coming back again ;)
Awesome demo!
Your property must be paradise.
Unreal BP, You an the Camera Crew get Us pumped to go fly.
I lost a plane last time I cliff soared, in the search I got a world record Paralysis Tick in Me neck, Ahahahaha, can't wait to get back there.
Thanks Jono! I was hoping to deliver a better performance of soaring, but it was still fun!
I'd love to soar off a cliff some day!
For those who would prefer to purchase the voltage sensor, HH/Spectrum has a pre-made one... Telemetry Battery Voltage Sensor: EC3/IC3 Item No. Spektrum - SPMA9556
They sure do, but for almost $30, I assume most will pass... bit.ly/3NmUUgK ...but then again, I've been wrong a few times ;)
Thanks James!
Super useful video. This is a model I would like to own. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and Mrs.Camera Crew (aka Honey).
Ps, nice nails.
Merry Christmas to you too! They are nice ;)
Ok, Ok....I finally subbed. Shwelcome!😂😂 Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too, teal94z28!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Absolutly! I am really enjoying your build/flight vids. Especially the ones where you get technical, like setting up throws and rates, etc. Im really new to flying (feb 2020) and from watching your stuff I was able to dive into a couple planes without much issues. Some of the guys at the airfield don't believe im a rooky and since nick named me Little Ace lol.
Your video on the Volantex phoenix v2 got me sparked. I went out and got that one and the Aeroscout. I like the slow flights at the moment. mostly seeing how long i can stay up without the motor.
Anyway, thanks again for the inspiration and the tech knowledge!
Another great year of honest reviews and of course "Flying" . i wanna wish you, Bryan & The Camera Crew, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year . Great health n wisdom in decisions you make this year. Hey Brian where's your side kick ? The Lasagna maker ? VIVA ESTEBAN. VIVA ESTEBAN. VIVA ESTEBAN .. Bye y'all
AWESOME!!! He's celebrating Christmas at home, slaving over a hot stove - LOL - JK, I have to share this comment with him - LOL!!!
Merry Christmas!
@@BrianPhillipsRC
Yes you do. Just wanna make y'all chuckle n smile. Cheers
I love slope flying with a glider and thermal flying good video ps I've had mine at 1000 feet up don't tell nobody 😂 hope you're having a good Christmas
COOL! You must have good eyes!
That’s SO cool!
HEY!!! LOOK at the flying field! Looks like a better' place to fly! Cool Sailplane!
At some point, I want to make another runway up at the top of this hill. Not sure if it'll be just grass or if I'll do something better.
Merrrryyyyy Christmassssssssss
Merry Christmas Sk8ter Danger!
At ease in the air, natural. We dont see this really often.
This plane is a joy to fly!
I never fly in wind but you are a much better RC pilot than I. Merry Christmas. That would be a good one to put a camera on. Landed like a helicopter.......not good helicopter weather...he he.
Gotta have wind to slope soar :)
Merry Christmas Brian ani camera crew
Merry Christmas to you too!
Brian....All you and camera crew needs is a pair of lounge chairs. You’ll run out of patience before you run out of juice in the Lipo...haha. Merry Christmas...👍👍😉
Maybe a heated shelter, and a lounge chair ;) LOL
That thing is a soaring beast All it needs is a terodactyl head lol Me liky for sure guys 🔥👍✌️
LOL
I hope my questions for your expert guidance are not too late given this was posted some months ago. I have just taken my maiden flight with this plane and happily got it back in one piece. However, I could not figure out how to get the vario (same receiver as yours) to “announce” nor could I figure out how to assign its vocalizations to a switch to be able to turn it off in flight. Finally, I also soldered on the battery voltage leads as you instructed and plugged it into the receiver but that generated a continuous series of beeps (which I only learned after launch) whenever I throttled up on the motor to any level. To say this was annoying is an understatement. I could not identify why it was beeping or what it meant or how to adjust it to be useful. What do I need to do? (Of course unplugging it from the receiver turned it off but that is the fall back position.) Thanks Brian.
We added this feature in the Dynam - Sonic 185 we just reviewed... the plane SUCKED, but you can see how we made these "Audio Evens". Please take a few minutes and watch that. It'll be in there toward the end of the Unbox, Build, Radio Setup, and then you can try it on your ASW-17.
Sorry for my slow reply. It's been kinda crazy around here, and didn't want you to think I'd keeled over - LOL - but it's been very hard to keep up. Thanks for understanding!
When and if you're still struggling, I think we ALSO setup the VARIO on the FMS Pitts 1.4m (not the 850 we just did...this one was a few months before it...)
Watch this to see Vario ON but no noise - czcams.com/video/Rxw64XooIvU/video.html
Then this to see how to turn on the audio feedback - czcams.com/video/Rxw64XooIvU/video.html
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you Brian for your reply. Was hoping things were ok. I shall study these although I don’t think I can get it done before tomorrows flying at the field.
Ah, your inside directions/excellent videography (thanks Megan) were very helpful; I think I’ve got it. Also got the AS3X and SAFE re-ensconced on a 3 position switch (from a 2 position switch) so I can turn it off completely. Again, thanks for your help! Test it tomorrow!
It would be nice to see a setup with a 8Ch with all the functions.
Like Crow full span adironds and flaps and everything else that this glider is capable of
YES! Forward programming makes all that so much more possible too!
Just picked this bird up last week and I've been running 4S 2200 batts that weigh 244 g, set my timer for 5 minutes with timer starting with throttle over 25%. I climb out then drift then when I lose altitude, I rinse and repeat. When timer expires after 5 or 6 climb outs I land with about 30% left in my battery. I've ordered some 4S 3700s that weigh 304 g, so I can do some extended "sport" flying. I was wondering how this bird will handle a heavier battery, you answered that question. Thanks.
AWESOME! Thanks Don! I appreciate you mentioning that we answered your question. Thanks for being here with us!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Bad news on my ASW-17. After a launch at full throttle it had climbed to about 15 feet or so and I heard a loud vibration begin, and the rudder had popped off. I almost got it back on the ground successfully but it hit a table out at our flying site. It appears the prop adapter broke and I lost one of the props, setting up the vibration. I'm contacting Horizon to seek assistance, hopefully. Up until then I was having a blast with this bird and my 3700 batteries were giving me almost 10 minutes of throttle time, but I'm not that heavy on the throttle. Also during a power dive my wings began fluttering, but survived. I'm going to find a different prop adapter and spinner, hopefully aluminum.
Woot. No snow for you guys??? Was this filmed a while ago?
We had a couple warm days, then another blizzard - LOL - we filmed this a few weeks ago though, for what it's worth ;)
Hello Brian. What exactly is the connector used to connect the battery voltage on the AR 637T receiver? Greetings
1S Micro JST PH, I believe.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you very much Brian
I have an old bang good, soaring eagle, I could keep that thing up for a long time. It was a lot of fun but the wind was hard on it ,but it did not have the power this bird has. It had a ready to fly crazy radio and it blew off on me one day,but I got it back , it came down in school yard a mile away.🤣🤣🤣😏😏
That's crazy! How did you find it?!?!
The school yard had a big field on it that is part of the same valley we fly in sometime s that is my brother s pasture field in Wv. As I drive home from my brothers house I pass the big field and the school, it is just a one lane road till you reach the school, I was looking around because the plane was heading that direction when I seen it last. And out in the field I spot something yellow I get out and investigate, and it was my plane, it had landed itself and there was nothing wrong with it and the plane actually had to travel a little over a mile to get there. I still have it to this day and that was 12 years ago.😂🤣😂and it still flys.
Witch one is better the FMS 2.5m or the 3m? Is the 3m worth the extra money?
The 3m is a FOX... so apples to oranges ;)
I love both. The 2.5m is amazing (this one). The 2.3m FOX is the weakest of the three, but WAY more economical.
ASW17 2.5m bit.ly/3nLuFjU
Fox 2.3m bit.ly/2Qv5VkL

I got the carbon cub s 2 for Christmas, and I was wondering what are high rates and low rates ?
They change the amount the control surfaces move. So if you want the plane to be LESS responsive (generally better for new pilots who tent to have less refined muscle memory) put the plane in LOW rates.....while for a more experienced pilot, they will probably want HIGH rates.
I'd suggest starting on low rates, and then progress into high rates - GOOD LUCK!
Thanks
Is 0 or 1 high rates
very cool man I wish I had a better glider like this one. I got the eflite Radian and i think it sucks pretty bad. The wings are so flimsy and its only a 3 channel, I dont know what I was thinking..the lights are cool on it. Merry christmas Brian and family happy flyin.
Radian is a slow thermal ship, so I'd highly encourage you to consider sometime like this, but it's still pretty pricey. We have a bunch of more economical choices if price is stopping you. Sail planes are super fun, and can be a great option for when snow is on the ground!
Merry Christmas to you too!
Radians are cool I think. They are a great first plane. I put flaperons on mine and have a ball. I can slope soar over sagebrush, boulders, log trucks and hay piles. I've got 20 acres to my North. If I get it pointed at me at the other end of the field say 10-20' high and just let it fly in safe, if the conditions are right, its 100-200' over my head by the time it gets close. Getting it down is hard! I've got an ASW-28. It's a speed demon rocket ship by comparison. But flies great! Lands great for me. Not a good first plane in my opinion. Have a Fox 3000 but before I maidened it, my box started crashing my other planes giving me fits. So I'm relearning how to program a Radiomaster and grounded until I figger it out. Not as easy as the Spektrum.
@@Navigator777777 I wrote that comment very early on in my RC piloting hobby.. its kinda funny how we all start out in this hobby learning all the different flight characteristics of different models. I espcially know this after recently obtaining my first rc model the Eflite umx sport cub. my experience now gives me great new aspect to how cool these little planes are..and for the radian i have given it to a friend who fixed it all up and we go flying together and I have a whole new appreciation for how cool that bird is. thanks you for your comment im so glad i stuck with this hobby ive got over 100 planes in the last 4 years. im out of room for more.
@@aaronstrom16
Thanks for the reply!
I almost got my Radian with flaperons flying yesterday but I can't get passed the AS3X and Safe programing using a TX16S.
I won't argue the wings are a wee bit weak.
I exceeded Vne more than once and it's sickening to see those wing shaking as bad as my hands. I've got five planes now but lost one to an Eagle's nest. They chewed it up pretty bad but it's quite the conversation piece. I really like Sailplanes but Brian and the Camera Crew™'s shooting of the EC 1500.......has got me thinking I might be able to slope soar it here ....... ;-)
Niiiiiice !
See ;) Wish I would have gotten better lift, but still fun!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC It looks so fun ... I'm on a mission to find myself a slope spot .
Is the vario in the receiver?
AR637T has a vario.
At this time and in this wind I fly more high with my Fox 3000mm. The Fox like it home.
I need to get the Fox out in the wind like this too, but we didn't have it yet when we filmed this video :(
@@BrianPhillipsRC OK. I look forward to it.
Can a complete noob fly this glider or is it too advanced. What would you suggest as a great starter powered glider? Love the channel ❤👍
Yes...and don't look back. Very fun plane plus they take a beating.
Please try it on better terrain - a steeper ridge:)
I will. The trees are making the wind slow down too much before it hits this hill :(
@@BrianPhillipsRC I look forward to it! :)
Awesome Brian! Conscendo evo OR asw17? Looking for my next plane for general fun, not so much soaring. Thanks!
That's like asking which Kid I want to save in a fire!
Conscendo Evo 1.5m bit.ly/2DPmW2F
FMS
Fox 3m bit.ly/3mTNwcF (Don't forget this one too KFamilyVideos - I know low blow here - LOL )
ASW-17 2.5m bit.ly/3nLuFjU
Don't forget to pick a couple Rx'es
AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86
AR6610T bit.ly/33SYkA0 (No AS3X, but does have VARIO)
All joking aside, if you can afford the more expensive ASW-17, you may still want the Conscendo Evo FIRST....just my 2 cents...but ALL three of these planes are AMAZING GOOD!
Windy day.
yeah, but not quite windy enough ;(
And yes Ik I say it a lot butttttttttttttt
FLY THE F-22 ITS AWESOME AND ITS 90mm PLUSS ON 6s THAT THING IS A MONSTERRRRRRRRR and yes I’ll be donating
Call up MotionRC and tell them to send it out, and I'll review it ;)

Is 0 or 1 low rates
Depends on how you set the switches. Sorry I can't answer for you. Do this to find out. Power up the plane and transmitter, as usual. Pull the elevator stick ALL THE WAY DOWN. Look at the elevator. Now flip the rate switch, does it drop slightly or go up slightly...now you know ;)
Thanks
To learn to fly in a hurican. you have to fly in a hurican!
Truth!
I throw a plane off a mountain, it will beat me to the bottom good job!
LOL - this was hardly a good example of slope soaring ;) I have a few clips from what shall remain and un-named site, that's a very much better example...
