When I was a kid, they did that as a demonstration at the Seattle Science Center, and the bar was about that big. A security guard put it in a mesh bag tied to his wrist, and they let us handle it to experience the density of gold.
I'm truly liking when Silver or Gold are melted, it's just amazing, I know I can't do, but I know I don't have the patients for it. Good video. THE SARGE
As a refiner, the Chemicals needed, HCL, HNO3, H2so4, H3NSO3 and a few others but in much smaller quantities. The Zn, Ni are the biggest problem. The Ag, Cu and Pd are a walk in the park. First pass they're gone. The remaing Au in powder form will be 24 karat, 98+. It would need a 2nd refine to remove the rest of the Ni and Zn. I know it sounds strange, but Ni and Zn are some of the toughest metals to seperate. Even my 999 Au under X Ray will still have Ni and maybe a bit of Pd. Most of the time it's the nickle.
Great video. Thanks silver dragons for that one. I've got a bunch of scrap jewelry that I inherited. All gold. I need to get it down to a store to sell it and trade it in for real gold coins. I don't mean real gold coins but you know gold coins
Not a chance. Right now Monument has 2024 1/4ozt AGE for 585.50$ and the 2024 1/4ozt Britannia for 573.96$. Bold has them respectively at 590.53$ for 2024 AGE, 580.53$ for random date AGE and 555.53 for the 2023 Britannia as they don't have the 2024 in stock.
Very cool video, not every day i get to see Gold melted down into bars. That is very cool. Thanks for the video, now i have another spot where i can get the Gold i am looking for, looks like they have exactly what i am looking for. Thanks for the information SD.
I worked as a miner at a South African gold mine back in the early 1980’s and once went to the smelting plant to see it all being crushed , cyanide-processed , smelted and poured into “traditional” sized ingots like you see in the movies and one of the “games” that was offered to you once it was all done was that if you could pick up an ingot with one hand you for 30 seconds then could have it…. Needless to say we all tried it and all failed , most of us failed to even lift it off the table for a second or two ….they were THAT heavy. A story for another time is that we once hit a seam of gold on the Stope that was so rich and traveled back in the seam so far that under the eyes of armed guards we were told to load up the wooden packs (packs = what held up the roof) with dynamite , blow them up to cause a cave-in and forget what we had found……it was buried . The younger me was confused at what we were told to do , the elder me understands now….
@@andresgarza1725 …..ok , I’ll try and keep it as brief as I can but there will be things that need explaining first for why… Due to the rock strata that we dealing with , gold bearing ore , quartz etc there we were never searched when we went back to the surface as there was ordinarily no chance of sneaking out any gold of significant quantity/ quantity to make it worth while taking out. Nearly all of it was in microscopic quantities buried deep in the hard gold bearing ore …..so unless you were a multi million ££ organisation you didn’t have the wherewithal to extract these tiny amounts. One day we went back in after the previous days blasting of the gold bearing stope (rock face) to clean up and drill again for the days blasting when we discovered an unusual looking “fault” that we were not used to seeing , this “fault” stretched the entire length of the stope which would have been 50+ yards long , undulating in width between half-inch to 2 inches or more across its entire length. After reporting this “fault” they sent down some geologists to do some sonic tests to see how far back this “fault” stretched back into the unmined rock strata ….by the end of the day we were told to stop working and everything was then put on guard ………few weeks then passed and we were all moved to a different section of the mine. About a month later we were called back and it was explained to us that we needed to cause an explosive cave-in and bring the roof down so that the stope was inaccessible to anybody to mine or gather any rocks from it. Unofficially we were told that the “fault” was so loaded with easily accessible gold and that it stretched so far back into the strata that there was simply too much gold there!! I was a green 20 year old at the time and none of this made any sense to me? ….. we were gold miners being paid to find gold and we had found tons of it and then being told to hide it and forget about it? ……it seemed crazy ? It was later explained to me that because we had exposed soooo much gold that if it had been mined and sent to the surface the company we worked for (Consolidated Gold Fields) was under legal obligation to declare that weeks gold recovery to the world market which would have sent the gold price crashing to an artificially low price due to the glut we had found………and leaving it exposed would have risked anybody just picking it up for themselves …..hence caving in the roof to protect it. Apparently they would then wait for the price of gold to hit a natural low or a low caused by other forces then they could go back in , reopen the stope , get the gold out and send it to the surface as per normal and then wait for the prices to pick up again. Sorry that was a bit long winded , but I bet that happened a lot of times?
@@Sarnarath They couldn’t just take it to the surface , put their finger to their lips and say “sssshhhhhhhhh everybody , don’t tell anyone!” ….at the time they were one of South Africa’s main gold producers and the figures they declare can have major effect on global prices , up or down. If it was left in place underground then they wouldn’t have to declare it in that weeks/months figure of what they had mined. It’s just a microcosm of any commodity market. Too much supply = price goes down ….Too little supply = price goes up.
I was lucky and my school did trip to Ottawa Canada and we saw the mint. I saw two RCMP officers standing there doing nothing but looking like the most bored people on the planet. We were told that zero gold or paper money or money of any kind was ever stolen from the mint. I thought that seemed odd as only those two Mounties were standing there on guard . Turned out that gold had been stolen from the Canadian mint going back to the years I was there so about 41 years. They did their own audit and worked out how many millions in gold had been taken over all those years. Then they did their own check of security and found some slight changes needed to be made. lol . People who worked their had been taking gold out just in their pockets each day . They did not say how much paper money was taken but one sheet of money say 100 bills would be a fair bit . Not sure how many bills are on one sheet but it was a lot I remember that .
You fear it keeps dropping??? Unless you bought all the silver you will ever buy then the "spot price" dropping is a gift!
