This is the sh*t. The real deal. Any imperfections just make it better, in my opinion.
This is the Aerosmith I loved as teenager. Never missed a show.
...and Steven is truly ridin' higher than a kite.....
one has to admire how he works through it, marshalling his voice.
the whole concert has a kind of dark splendour.
Very true statement. Glad this was the beginning of their amazing comeback and not just the end of the band.
Yeah, especially when Perry’s guitar whacked him in the head in his literary nodding off during Milk Cow Blues! Talk about sacrilegious stuff Tyler. Christ was he fucked up until his 3rd attempt in rehabilitation from every single drug. Let’s take a moment and realize how Joe carried himself during his work and if they did meet their maker; because 50+ years after the fact? They’re still the biggest rock stars ✨ they always wanted to be. Sincerely, DJP Anal Cunt; Postmortem and Kilslug; Sony; Earache 🇬🇧 Columbia and TAANG!! Unfuckingbelievable
america's greatest rock band !
Sorry, that honor goes to the original Van Halen, but Aerosmith was hot shit for a time back in the day. Their later shit was boring AF tho. You wouldn’t even know they had one guitar player, let alone two.
Certified member of the Blue Army here. Saw them at Anaheim in '76, LA Forum in '77, Cal Jam and Long Beach Arena in '78, LA Coliseum in '79 then a week before this show at the Greek Theater in LA. The difference between this concert and their last shows on the '79 Tour is like night and day, ESPECIALLY with Joe Perry who would skulk through shows and half-ass his riffs strung out on dope. This concert is probably the band at its best. Milk Cow Blues... Jesus Christ that's 🔥. The only rags-to-riches to rags-to-riches band in history. They eventually put their egos aside for the betterment of the music. Aerosmith is THE great American rock and roll band.
That's awesome you got to see them so many times in the 70's, at (arguably) their peak! First time I saw Aerosmith was in April, '75 in a 2,400 cap theatre. Took a bunch of pics, but traded them away for pics of a show I didn't go to! Then saw them 4 times in the '80's.
I bet the Blue Army was a pretty rough crowd back then. These days they mark up ticket prices to gentrify the audience.
@@DCB728 Their second peak was after the release of permanent vacation when the band was pretty much all sober and showing it in their concerts.....this peak lasted through PV and their next two albums.....but I will say it was fun in the early to mid 80's when you didnt kknow which Aerosmith would show up in concert (during Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo period) who were both excellent guitarists. Tyler would open shows stoned or drunk or both sometimes while othertime he would light the arena on fire with his talents. I actually was at the Worcester show which had the famous picture of Tyler passed out on stage with his red and pink striped outfit with the show cancelled about 2/3'rds of the way through.
If for nothing else, this rare 1984 concert features Joe Perry playing on, "Lightning Strikes", making it worth while! And by them playing, "Red House", "Bone To Bone" (Coney Island White Fish Boy), "Three Mile Smile/Reefer Head Woman", it is even more amazing. I like the whole show!!
Using the Fender Bass VI on Back In The Saddle
Steven Tyler Live in Oakland 1984 is my spirit animal
I like you
Joe is mine,
Damn, Joey Kramer is on fire, here ! Nice performance !
good stuff
This the most pure Aerosmithy of Aerosmith. before the comeback albums and after Night in the Ruts. Hearing them play Cowbell and Three Mile Smile is awesome. Plus they were in top form, of course Steven's voice was cached.
No way they were in top form dude. They were in top form 3 years later.
@ Oh yeah, Rag Doll so much better than Three Mile 😂
@Carson I would say from 1990 through 2005
I'd go with 1997-2008. The Russ Irwin era was great.

good timing, saw this orlando 84
you’re a legend thank you
Now there's a set list by America's greatest. No wimpy s__t!
i saw them on this tour in 84 in Cleveland, i was in the 3rd row. i never thought i'd get a chance to see the original group together because they had broken up. It was like a dream come true for a 15 year old. 32 years later, i've seen them about 10 times since!!!! love me some "Smith.
I was at that show too. I always wondered how come I never got tickets like that. My dad would because he did advertising on WMMS. Actually saw the Who 82 from the 5th row.
@@PerpetualArt , instead of buying crummy seats, you should have asked your Dad to hook you up with those primo seats.
damn! that was the Aerosmith I loved. Tough sounding Back in the Saddle rock. what a sound!
Just Pure Rock n Roll greatness ooozing out of all 5 of the then recently reunited band
It's about time for everyone to stop this "decline of Aerosmith" BS. They have kicked ass throughout their career. I became a fan in '74. And yet....I totally dug Permanent Vacation, Pump, Get a Grip....and the records that followed too. But even if I didn't love a particular song or record for me, (Done with Mirrors, Nine Lives & Music From....are not ones I spin regularly) I can still dig where the band was at, what they were going through - and there are great songs on EVERY record. So come on y'all, you've got an incredible discography covering 40 years of balls-out greatness (& fked-upness!). Dig it ALL!!!! And definitely don't forget one of the hardest rocking Aerosmith records: the %100 KILLER Rock in a Hard Place.
Sorry bud......after Done with Mirrors I was done with them......commercial sellout MTV crap...I just couldn't stomach it....Done with Mirrors was their last great album......hands down......
@@larrynolletti4594 Yeah I know that's the approved "old-Aerosmith Fan" story, and I basically prefer the old shit too, but read my comment again to see what I am really saying.

@@Nei-mq1go oh golly gee...you didn't like it ?....I'll tell you what pal.....I'll listen to Done with Mirrors....you listen to Angel....Jaded....Jaime 's got a gun....and the rest of the sell out commercial mtv trash......
The thing about Aerosmith is that their 70s songs still sounded fresh and didn’t sound dated in the 80s
Steven is a little too wasted and Joe Perry is on fire! Mr Whitford is shredding like crazy! The kramedog is banging the shit out of those drums! And mr sweet emotion has cool hair! Aerosmith rocks harder than ever still today! They will forever be my favorite rock n roll band!
I think Steven took too much acid maybe and the rest just did coke?
Mike Davitt Nah, acid doesn’t make you slur your words like alcohol would. I’m pretty sure he was just drunk as shit. It was around the time they got a new manager who helped them get clean from drugs.
@@Jack-sx7rn it’s a mix of coke, and alcohol with a bit weed, ik bc I am the managers nephew
@@Jack-sx7rn , are you referring to that fat dictator of a manager who made their lives miserable? The band went into rehab a full 2 years after this Oakland ‘84 concert. (You gotta know yer rock history son).
I know that this was a great tour.....loved their reunion.....and I loved the Joe Perry Project and Rock in A Hard Place.....after Done with Mirrors ( and that awesome tour ) I was done with them.....
"We're" Back in the Saddle - amazing!
My first concert, December 1984. My two older brothers and 20 other people I don't know partying in one hotel room after the show and my brothers snorting cocaine off of the nightstand telling me, "don't do this". And then being driven back home in a Cadillac with nine other people and one in the trunk. Best time of my life.
I saw this tour in Cleveland back in 84. I was so excited one of my favorite bands was back together.
Oooo Joe and Brad playing Lightning Strikes
Joey Kramer lookin' so fine with those drums
Joey's all over the place with the bass drum hits.
this tour was some of Joey's best playing, then again he always played sober and never failed to do a great job, 70's and on
They are all still there. Aerosmith remains intact.
Aerosmith Rocks! Great concert overall.
You can tell Joe really enjoyed playing the songs from Night in the Ruts
And you can clearly see in this video where Slash got his entire persona....and he freely admits it, to his great credit.
Last of the pre-Geffen era
This is when they got back together and said..."Here's our last chance ,if we fujk this up it's over"...the rest is Aero history!... GOD BLESS THE BOYZ FROM BOSTON!
AEROSMITH FOREVER! LONG LIVE AEROSMITH!
I was at this show. I thought the performance was good. I remember my ears rang for three days after this show. I saw them in 1983 at Cal Expo. A different line up but another good show. The first time I saw them sober was probably Cal Palace 1988. cheers
Perfect example of the drugs kicking in at just the right time! They are so into it! One of the best recorded Aero concerts ever! Later on the booze kicks in a bit too much tho.. most nights I was more F`d up then they were but once they were so high no one knew what song they had played. It was kind of funny. They finally settled down and were coherent for the rest of the show. Nothing like an old school Aerosmith concert!
I saw Aerosmith twice live both shows are great 1977 1986 they are truly Legends God bless you all peace Boston Strong New York strong USA strong rock and roll born in USA thank you all
I am obsessed with what happens from about 1:16:20 to 1:16:45. Steven Tyler stops playing his harmonica and just puts it on his shoulder like a friggin' parrot (wow is he high in this video). Then he does some kind of weird pose where he looks like he's going to flick the harmonica off his shoulder for some reason. Then Joe Perry thwaps him in the head with his guitar as he runs off... Which I thought was just an accident at first, but then I noticed that Perry, while running across the stage, seems to purposely run into Tyler's mic stand and knock it over, as if he were irritated for the weird shit Steven had just pulled... And all this is AFTER they had already broken up because of drugs and infighting... Brilliant.
It was like a "Hey Steven, wake up, we're supposed to end this gig"
Well, first Steven messes up the beginning of the song by trying to get out in the audience. At the START of a song!!! And then he forgot the lyrics. And then he says something like "Don`t blame me, I tried". I have heard that he actually got in an argument with the security in front of him that denied him to get close to the audience and the drink he threw was meant for him but by looking at this it seems he is throwing it out on the audience. Anyway, this isn`t how Tyler usually behaved on stage. You can see Joe says something in Stevens ear, then puts his knee in Stevens back and they seemingly fight for that little space on the drum raiser a bit before Steven does the harmonica thing that I believe is a sign to Joe to get off his back or that Joe is the chip on his shoulder, making Joe so angry he knocks Steven in the head when he jumps over him and knocks over his own mic stand. I would like to be a fly on the wall backstage under the drum solo :O
This was also the last concert on the first leg of the Back In The Saddle Tour
Just watched it like 6 times in a row - now I'm obsessed with this as well!! I think Joe whapped him in the head!!!
Saw this tour in St. Louis, Missouri, summer, woke up the day of the concert hearing on local radio that Tyler took a swing at Perry onstage in Springfield, Illinois the night before. Thought canceled, no, went ahead. Steven runs out and is coked up, spitting, every so often, everywhere and obvious, does okay though. Perry jumps off an amp over Tyler, seems planned, no harm. Steven sits at a piano for Dream On, crowd silent and fearing, a bit off key, like sad. I can't believe how wasted he is on this video.
They sound good they should release a live album from this era
+rog duran Classics Live 2
They did. This is only the beginning of a long era where they ot better and better and did exxellent shows through the 80s and 90s. I saw them in 94 and they KILLED.
Tyler is so wasted here. Can't believe he makes it through this show.
AND he has trouble with the monitors from the get go. He signals several times but ends up holding his ears instead. Nothing sucks more doing a show and you struggle hearing whats going on. The sound on stage almost always sounds terrible but some venues has huge issues with the sound being thrown between walls and the stage, making it very difficult to follow the band. It can seem like there is something like that going on here, but he is also clearly not sober.
I got no complaints about Steven in this show. He still had his raunchy edge in ‘84. As soon as their “comeback” kicked in, in ‘87, they lost that edge. I’ll take Oakland ‘84 over post-1987 any day.
@@dodgecrockett3474 …… fucking right buddy! Everything pre Permanent Vacation for me.
Even a wasted ST is better than most.
Seen many of film/bootleg of Aerosmith, the 36:30 of Joe taking over for Red House (while Tyler goes get some more blow backstage). Brad just absolutely dominates the song (and he should), then gives away to Joe for a section - just glorious.
Aerosmith is my first and most consistent favorite band. I've owned 99% of everything they put out in every form, LP, Cassette, 8-Track, CD, DVD, and digital. I've read Walk This Way 5 times and just started Rocks by Joe Perry. I also have everything Joe put out. Having said that, this is sad, and a sick and twisted caricature of Steven. I'm so glad he finally kicked that shit, and thank god for the rhythm section of this band to hold it together while Joe, and particularly Steven, got their shit together.
This was only about six months after the reunion in Boston in Feb. '84, and was the last show of the first leg.
Whatever anyone wants to say about Aerosmith, when they reunited in 84 they immediately started selling out venues headlining getting great reactions and their music still sounded fresh. Within 4 to 5 years they were back on the top and playing better than ever 89 thru 94
i'm 54 and seen this tour in Detroit 1984 Joe Louis Arena I was 19 yrs old all fucked up having a good ol time with my buddies those were the days sure do miss them
What a setlist!!!
This is such an epic fucking performance, disasters and all. Damn. Thanks for sharing.\
I looked up this tour, cause I seen it in 84. He was so smashed when I seen them and wondered if it was just the show I seen. but it wasn't.
Steven: I'm going to improvise over Sweet Emotion 1:03:23
Joe: BONK 1:16:35
Keep On Rockin in the Free World Rock On Aerosmith and on and on yeah alright
Very Awesome concert
Definitely off the hard sh** at this point. Perry is on fire here. Good stuff thanks for sharing!!!
I saw this tour 2 weeks earlier in Boston (Well the Worcester Centrum) on August 5 and 6th. Six months earlier I saw them on Valentines day in Boston (at the Orpheum theater) With the Jimmy Crespo line up. I then caught them on New years eve in Boston again 1984/1985 and then again in September of 85 in the Manning Bowl Lynn, Ma (almost died) this was the first time I had seen A Smith 5 times in almost a year. by 1988 when I saw them touring with Guns and Roses they were at their peak and by 1990 they were better than that peak. just freakin amazing. Seen a lot of bands in my life but I really enjoy Smith the most. My favorite was the Done with mirrors tour. their set list was spontaneous. Playing "No surprise" "Seasons of wither" "S.O.S" the rarity's.
If you survived the manning bowl, then you know, that was the only concert that was a "concert" in my mind.
Why/how did you almost die?

was at this show. great to have a video of it. It was a great show in person, maybe that doesn't translate through the tortured video. Thanks for posting
Unbelievable...lol... I was at this concert as a 16 yr old... in the first 10 or so rows...in the pit... remember the white varnauts & bad a** cowboy hat like it was yesterday. Gr8 concert!
joey krammer is killing it
What a glorious shit show. Awesome.
Aw my poor baby is too fucked up to even talk straight. love him so much💕
Raw , gritty , kicking ass that's The Greatest American Rock Band EVER ! Aero F in Smith !
awesome concert 1984
Don't think I seen Tyler so stoned the 80s were a bad time for him!!Seen them the first night in Bethlehem pa rock in a hard place tour tyler could hardly sing from being wasted ,place was half full, bad times.....but great times!!!! !!
Yes ladies & gents that's Mr Brad F'ing Whitford playing a Charvel! Nothing like Mr Whitford reminding Mr Tyler what the next song is..
what a great comeback when they got sober
Killer setlist
When Steven scream walk this way sounded like he just started his screaming for that song. Btw they should have redid walk this way, in the 80's because it would have sounded better for him screaming walk this way
They did with the RUN DMC thing. He re recorded the vocals for that version and screams on the chorus.
Wheeler, I can't make heads or tails out of what you just said.
Great show, bluesy and ballsy. Aerosmith at their best; before unfortunately becoming a commercial act. The Back In The Saddle and Done With Mirriors Tours were awesome. Permanent Vacation was the decline of a truely a remarkable band. That is just my opinion.
89-94 was a good period. But other than that...
Aerosmith is a great way to get your 💰 money's worth. They never disappoint.
Dream On parece una marcha fúnebre acá... Me encanta!
Joey fucking killing it here!!!
Tyler was really off...but I give him credit for remembering most of the words
god i love reefer headed woman
Brilliant bootleg. So much better than the official one from 1978!
Not sure ive ever seen a band with A smith's energy over the years and that includes early KISS and GNR.
Joe,fucling,Perry killed it,here,on,tjhe,night,in the ruts,stuff,
Kansas City, July 1984. Hella good time! Got drunk, laid and stoned that night.
WE use to run to the stage and have a tug of war with Steven's scarf's on mic stand..... late 78-79's that's 1979 around this time them and Black Sabbath,Bad Co. were struggling just to play
My first concert was seeing Aerosmith at Wings Stadium in Michigan. They had Rick Dufay and Jimmie Crespo....ugh.....Place was only a quarter full. Tyler was swearing every other word and spitting like crazy.
TRES Cool/Heavy!
THE REAL "RIGHT IN THE NUTS" TOUR...84!!!
1st time i saw them was on this tour & i wz 15! they were clean & just blew me away!! I wz pressed up against the stage & this was BEFORE Steve got that whole "Mtv" thing going that i hated. At the time i wz smitten with all the new bands , Motley, Ratt, ect BUT this show set me straight on how the guys i started with were really a "band" & kicked ass Without all the big show bells & whistles.. Sadly, never saw THIS Aerosmith again.
Having worked the tour, if you think Stevie or JP were clean...? Not a single show. Fact.
Milk Cow Blues from their Draw The Line album is written by Koko Arnold Steven!! This here’s a song written by someone, somebody. Elvis Presley did it and now We’re gonna do it for ya’ll! Shame he couldn’t get through it in both this show and the 1977 Houston gig as well. My guess is that he did too big of a hit fulla heroin and needed to sit/ lay down against Kramer’s drum riser until Perry’s guitar 🎸 💥 woke his ass up!at around the 116:37 mark and boy was that whack deliberate on Joe’s part! Look at Tyler’s eyes at that moment; because he’s clearly wasted on most likely a lot of heroin and probably benzodiazepines too. Glad he cleared his act up ❤
Tremendo show.
Alote,of,peaple,thought,jimmy,crespo,was,so,great i,nevet,got it,watch this,show,thank god,for,joe,and,brad,coming back
Stevens voice is a little strained on back in the saddle, not able to get those big screams in. This was their "the bands back together tour"..🥁🥁🥁

OOH: THOSE HIGH NOTES THO!
Lightening Strikes is done really well here. Should have kept it in the set.
55:21 is what we all came for. You're welcome
Check out 105:26 to see Joe be very kind and loving to his guitar.
Steven says to the punk who threw the shoe 👟 up at him:” Why’d ya throw that at Me mutha fuckah? You trying to give Me your sole.? I’m not an evangelist, I don’t need any more soul, I’m a Rock and Roll player” then threw it back at him was a riot ❤😂 Too bad he doesn’t make it through the entire show during Milk Cow Blues and I have never seen anyone who literally lays down against the drum riser until he gets a bit of a wake up call from the back of Perry’s guitar 🎸 💥 I am so proud of him for finally getting his act together with his own addiction though! Aerosmith IS so widely respected and loved by their audience because they are treated like the band’s always wanted to be. 56:00. You can hear that Tyler's vocal is flat. Vocals are a very physical endeavor, hard to keep it together when not in good shape. Guitar tries to give him the note so he can get back in key. Notice Tyler holds is ear closed with his finger so he can hear what note he's singing. 58:46, gets something hucked at him.
I was there
So Steven looks at Joe one night years after this show and said. I thought that taking all these drugs made us sound better even if I overdosed a few times on stage and fell of stage a few times, hell we nearly killed ourselves trying to sound better. Let's try something different. Let's stop doing drugs and see how we sound. A few months later and several sold out show's Steven looked at Joe and says who knew it. We sound better than ever and we've sold out every show and doubled our record sales. And I haven't fallen off of stage one time. Plus I've gained a few pounds by eating something we never did.
From the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We love you guy's and have been following you since 1973 including lot's of concerts some I don't really remember but you guy's probably don't remember them either. Glad you got that monkey off your back. And you guys were absolutely awesome the last four sober shows I went to. And Joey your still the world's best drummer and that's including myself. I've been playing the drums for decades but clearly you're the Drum King.
Voice is shot!
Steven is that rare singer who can get away with being hoarse and still sound good in a sense.
Plant, Jon Anderson, Steve Perry....they can't be even a little vocally worn or it would be all over

this a Pro Shot, so possibly exist in better quality.
Was this show round when they got back together after Jimmy Crespo? The band is much better with Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.
This was their big comeback tour but they had no contract or any new music out. Joe Perry had quit drugs and was recovering while Steven was having trouble getting sober, as this concert is a great example of.
God, the last thing that the 80's brought to the table was Aerosmith. These are not the boys that I know. The 70's and the 90's were definitely when they brought the real music to the table, (yes I even love Get a Grip, actually one of my favorite albums). Yeah, Pump was really good but honestly I consider that a 90's album since it came out in 89.
So sexy at 1:15 with Joe standing right behind him and Steven puts his head back on his leg
+Staci Valenti What the hell are you talking about? Steven Tyler was never a good looking guy, nor was he sexy. He's a ugly, skinny dude with a huge mouth. You're gross.

🤠 Bakersfield 1984 backstage Steven Tyler points at me asking, "Who's THAT?"...
That clicky kick sound that works so well at the arena but sounds obnoxious on video 35 years later.
