Alexander Schreiner was thrilling to watch on TV when I was a boy wanting to learn the organ. Some people may not know that he is included in the lineage coming from the great French organ tradition. What a treasure that we had him in the United States.

I am an organist because of hearing him on a recording my father bought at Temple Square.

He plays this with a fire and intensity that few or perhaps none have equaled.

I heard Maestro Schreiner play this on the Birmingham Town hall organ in 1967. A recital I shall never forget.

If you have access to Schreiner playing the Widor Toccata Sym. #5 I would die to hear it. Thank you for uncovering what you have. There must be so many recordings under temple square just sitting there.

He played that in the broadcasts yes, sitting in boxes in the basement. When Rick Elliott first arrived (1991) he urgently spoke of getting those recordings available. Maybe you could contact him.

Yes. It's always been a puzzlement how I've yet to find an organist that tries, or even wants to emulate Schreiner's celebrated kind of music-making. It is all very straightforward musical concepts.

Wonderful!! What a joy to hear Schreiner play this work again. He was one of a kind. I assume this recording was made from a Sunday morning broadcast; do you have any other gems to share? Thanks so much.

More to come. Hope you enjoy! It's a great learning experience for organists and all i.e. that the organ can be truly great.
