I tried Florida. It was my dream too, the first place I ended up. I couldn’t take the heat in the summer! Lol. You are probably used to it from where you grew up! My late mum told me something invaluable before I left the UK: “Son you don’t leave your problems behind when go go somewhere else, you simply take them with you” Make sure Poppy that your problem isn’t a general sense of restlessness from within, since Utopia doesn’t exist! It’s always going to be a trade off! The weather is much better in Florida, than London. Although you might wanna change Drizzle’s name to either ‘Bernie’ or even ‘Hurricane’ I LOVED seeing him again! GOD BLESS HIS COTTON SOCKS!!!
Hey Brian, good to see you stopping by! Your mum is completely right and I couldn't agree more! OMG haha Hurricane sounds very fitting 😂. It hasn't been too bad so far as I'm indoors a lot during the day time and yes used to it because where I grew up too.
Dear Poppy, I see a lot of myself in you... Now I know I am not the only one who has not figured things out by 30. What you said about what happened in 2009, was spot on. When that happened to me I felt like my life was falling apart... Now I am back in my home country. My finances aren't that great. However, I've found my passion... I have done a little bit of everything. Was in providing facility services, sales, marketing, admin, tourism, and customer care consultancy... I recently joined teaching and love every bit of it. Now I realize it was falling into place, not apart... Love from Sri Lanka 🥰
You have to buy a lamp for the room. One of the switches on the wall controls whatever socket you plug that lamp into and it’ll turn on the lamp
Absolutely loving how you're sharing specific details and inner thoughts. Most people glaze over anything financial, so it's really refreshing. So excited to see how this progresses for you.
You're so brave for taking a a leap of faith and pursue a completely uncharted path. Being a generalist is actually quite amazing and I'm glad you get to tap into your accumulated knowledge and experience. I'm excited to see what's to come for you!
Thank you, Poppy! I am at the same point in life and personally find your videos so inspiring and insightful.
Hi p’Poppy. I am also Thai and currently lives in Canada. I’m sooo glad I found your channel! I’m extremely inspired by you. All the best to your big move naka!!
I’ve just started watching you and love your content! I hope you enjoy Florida!! I have lived in Jacksonville, Miami and now Orlando for almost half my life and hope it is a great change for you ❤
Hello Poppy, sending love from dubai. I recently came across of your Chanel and it made me feel that I’m not alone who starts the journey again. I really admire and appreciate how you helping me to understand it’s okay to take risk and start over in 30’s. I recently stepped in to 30’s but age is just a number. It’s uncomfortable yes and I really feel it cz I’m going through the same. I support women and it’s beautiful. Much love. 💕
Damn I'm about to go to bed, but after tomorrow morning's jump rope session, and food prep it's nice to know I'll have this to look forward to while I'm eating breakfast. Your videos, and commentary on life help keep me on my path of trying to turn my life around. I'll be back with another comment later. Thank you buddy. 🙂
Been following you since the accounts days! So happy for you in this next chapter!
You are inspiring ❤
I love your calm demeanor
Your channel is growing!! ❤
hi poppy, thank you for sharing your journey so honestly! i just moved to amsterdam as a stepping stone without a solid plan; just going with the flow and i got challenged (survival fears etc) SO much but this helps me to awaken that self trust, abundance mindset and confidence in myself that i yearn for - through facing contrast on the physical plane and to following my intuition/my truth no matter what others are saying, believing or think is the truth (there's only our own unique truth). sending love and strength xo (+ i'm going to look as hot as you in my 30s and beyond :-) )
Thank you for sharing such pivotal time in your life with us. Content like this is really helpful and encouraging for someone like me, as I have made the decision to move states (in the US) very soon after feeling overdue for a big life change in my 30s. Good luck, and I wish you the best in your new life chapter! ❤
@reinventingpoppy Thanks for the reply! Also moving to FL 🤭/Orlando area from the northeast, God willing, if everything goes well, I am originally from Puerto Rico. The lifestyle in FL is much more attractive to me compared to where I am. I need the sunshine and enjoy the outdoors for more than 3 months a year without freezing my ears off!
I'm taking this a a sign because my husband have been considering moving to Florida for a while now so this was perfect timing ❤️
Congrats on moving and buying a new business! I would love for you to maybe talk about the process of buying an existing business. I'm currently researching and looking to buy one myself. I think it just makes more sense in a way because the original owners did most of the heavy lifting. So you are just taking over the process/or improving it.
Yep that's it and if you have a solid plan to expand/grow then you can even sell the biz in a couple of years time with some gains. I may talk more about this in future videos but if you have any specific questions, DM me on insta 💕
@@reinventingpoppy How you leaned about owning a business? Can you recommend some resources?
Congrats on the change and move! Best wishes 🎉
I resonate with your story 100%. I also moved to the US from Bangkok less than a year ago to start all over again at 38!! I want to let you know that I see you and your contents made me feel seen and heard as well. Thank you!
P.S. we have ceiling fans in the Midwest as well. This kinda remind me of home back in Thailand. 😆
Funny how your video popped into my feed as I finished writing my diary about restarting/preparing to restart my life at the age of 37 :) My change is not as big as yours but kudos to you and good luck with your new journey!
Welcome to the US. We don’t do lights on the ceiling fans because it’s such a harsh light overhead. We use table lamps. Those extra wall switches connect to the outlets the lamps plug in, so you can turn the lamps on and off.
Hope this helps! 🏠💡
Your video really resonates with me so much.. Thanks for sharig your story and your encourangement. I am 45, born & raised in Austria, lived 20 years in Australia, and have been living in Spain for the last year. Like you, I felt there was a change needed in my life. Living in Australia didn't serve me anymore. While it is an incredibly beautiful country with lots of oppotunities, my wife and I were not able to create a lot of wealth & freedom for us. For the last 5 years or so, housing prices have skyrocketed - And because of this, we decided to move back to Europe. Moving to Spain has been really scary for me, because 1) I dont speak Spanish. I have been learning, but it is a slow process, and 2) I also wanted to change my career, and like you, I have been on the lockout of purchasing a business, because I am actually also a generalist, and have done all sorts of things in the past.. worked in IT/Tech corporate 9-5 for 15 years, was a restaurant manager for 5 years, and have dabbled wiith internet businesses doing sales and marketing. I feel like, I constantly need to reinvent myself :) It's exactly like you said, scary, but I simply cannot see myself going back to my old self... Congrats to you on moving countries and also getting into business almost at the same time! That certainly takes a lot of courage and discipline, so I really admire that! Wishing you all the best, and I am sure I'll be sure back to your channel to see more of your life updates. Kind regards from Mabella, Spain!
Hey Poppy! This video was so about time. I’m in my mid 30-s, lived in 6 countries but thinking to move to another one again.. to start over from literally zero. Thanks for being so inspiring.
How do you manage to live in another country though? What do you do for work and is ir different than asking for a visa or something
I figured you wouldn't post a video for a few weeks with this huge change in your life. Thanks for answering the furniture question that I had. I thought about moving throughout my life, but just the fact that I would miss my family stops those feelings.
Hey this latest vlog was great. Thanks for spotlighting your new livelihood in the USA. Good luck with your business endeavors. Your growth inspires my growth. You have a nice place, and a cute dog. BTW, it looks like we share the same breakfast lol. I usually go with two eggs, choi sum, and a piece of wheat toast alongside an apple, and some peanuts. Quick, and reasonably delicious :)
Welcome to Florida!! I moved here in 2022 and love it so much!!! I hope you do as well.
Depending on the apartment, we have to buy overhead lights in Japan too. Also, I stumbled on your channel because I'm contemplating an international move in, not even my 30s but early 40s! It's a lot, and I wish you the smoothest transition possible.
Yes that’s right! I lived in Japan and it’s common to have to buy your lights and blinds / curtains even when you rent :)
As someone who is having a mid life? Quarter life crisis (36) I am constantly looking for content like yours. I sincerely feel like some people are just naturals at creating content and I feel like you could be a full time content creator / lifestyle vlogger. There is something very genuine and refreshing about your perspective. And I really dislike "influencers" because they tend to fabricate this perfect life that's not realistic. Your videos feel attainable, relatable, and I think there's still an untapped market for content like this,.
That's lovely to hear. I agree I don't even want to be called influencer, I'm just a normal girl sharing my journey of all the ups and downs ❤️❤️
Cool video. I'm going through a very difficult transition and this is quite motivational.
I like your videos.🌻🌻 You have inspired me a lot. Thank you very much.
Definitely hit home, the part about would you be happy doing what you are doing for the next 10 years.
Yes it’s true, most apartments in the US come with no light in the bedrooms. However, if a fan is provided in the ceiling these usually have a light attached, not sure why this one does not.
i'm a USRN from the Philippines, hope to move in the US soon. I'm considering Florida now because of your video
In the middle of the fan there should be a light I think it may be burnt out. You will need a special bulb! But I would try and get il there and takeoff the plastic middle to expose where a bulb could go!
Congratulations on your big move! It takes courage and vision to make a significant transition like moving from the UK to FL. But it looks like you're settling in quite well despite the challenges of acclimating to a new country and a new system. You have an amazing attitude, and I'm glad you have your husband to support you. Look forward to a progress report soon. 😊
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Might consider pursuing my dream businesses. And yes, I am on my early 30s now too. I think, this age or phase is about making major career choices and great decisions in life, that will greatly affect our future financial status! 😊
Great video. Thank you for the insights.
I'm 33, turning 34 soon, pondering a move for change. Freelancing for a few years, then a new country, perhaps. Terrified. Lived abroad before, but now, older, it feels tougher. Life's grown dull, drifted from old friends (married with kids, in relationships etc, dont see life the same). Just feel like a robot.
Am UK/USA dual... I used to live in Florida/USA for many years... Now back in Europe for several years now... Enjoy and wish you the best in your new journey/life in Florida/USA! :-))
I have moved 18 times across the US. I am about to start another move😅. Each one has its own challenges. Maybe I will run into you since I have a dog and I live in FL. Congratulations on your new business.
Omg yes I can certainly see this happening. What kind of dog do you have?
hey I watched all the video, please trust your gut lol, mine never failed me so far, this is going to be an insane journey for sure, my dream is to move to the us too, and soon will happen , really enjoyed the vid, keep it up
The sign i needed to pursue creating a startup from scratch
Thank you so much for sharing your story my dream is to move to the US and also in Florida, I felt in love with Florida last August can wait to go back wish you the best with your husband and dog 💖 and thank you so much for te info about E2 visa i felt it was out of reach without veryyyy good money 💖
You motivate me so much
You're so right about seeing tax as an expense! I'm from Lisbon, Portugal and the taxes we pay are ridiculous, plus the VAT is 23%.
Thanks for sharing! Will you be expanding on you financial goals now that you're in the US?
lol utility/ laundry room is not common in US apartments. That’s a suburban thing. And they definitely messed up the lights when they put a fan without a light or without connecting the light. But sometimes the light switch would turn on a lamp that’s plugged on the wall and not the ceiling.
Omg I’m so glad and inspired with your story .I have same feelings like you have mentioned and will Appreciate if you can do a video of family moving to LA.I have 3kids one will need day care what is the cost etc.🙏
Great video. Best wishes.
Try pulling the rope on the Fan. some old fan models have that feature were the lights are in the fan
I tried, definitely no lights and were told by the management we had to get our own 😅
That was a bold move. Respect.
Welcome to the US!
oh you're married! i didn't realise that!
Wow, Poppy, just found you channel and subscribed right away as I relate a lot living in London and all that comes with it! So much great information you’ve shared I def want to keep in touch if that s ok xx
Hi, from Texas! The light thing is definitely NOT a US thing 😂😂 I would be so confused not having a light too. That’s so silly not to have one 🤣 welcome to the south ! 💕
Also, Florida is such a great state here in America. Most of my family and my husbands live there. It’s beautiful, nice people, and great food
I haven't been to Texas but it is certainly on my bucket list to visit. Florida does not disappoint and has been everything you've mentioned so far!
I am hoping you will compare about food uk and us in your next video. so much different. I miss my best italian gelato from Wimbledon (London). It seems to be there is no food control in US. So many junk and dangerous foods are available in many supermarkets. We are shocked when we see them first time.
Thank you for your vlog! Even you moved to US, are you still available for one to one session abt living in UK?
That’s weird cause I know places with light with the fan I would check that out
U have to pull the string for light and to manage the speed of fan u know that right😅
🔥
Omg I just upped and moved out of Florida few weeks ago. I moved to NC to be more surrounded by nature because FL is just not my scene.
Also I've never seen an apartment with no overhead light and I rented many in florida. That is really strange.
Also state tax isn't so bad in other states. At least in NC I lose about 76$ per 2 weeks pay period.
And I think in comparison of UK and US, I didn't know UK had such high taxes 😳 however I think since we don't have public Healthcare here in the US and have to pay insurance and Healthcare is in generally so expensive it sort of evens out?
I think it all really depends on what the individual is looking to have their money taken away for and it's very interesting to learn people's choices and reasoning. Thank you so much for sharing yours 💛
I'm wondering how you moved with your dog? Was it hard for a pet? I've heard that they keep them for week on a quarantaine when you come to the US. Isn't that shocking for w dog? We may move as well with our corgi so that's why i'm so interested:)
We use FlyPets (UK based) and they pretty much organised everything for us. It made the whole process very simple for us, I highly recommend them but it certainly wasn't cheap. We paid around $3,500 for everything, picking up at our house, for him to stay kennel in the UK for 2 days (during the 2 days they'll do health check and remote custom clearance), transport to airport and the flight.
From what I know, remote custom clearance can be done in a day but this all depends on the airport. He flew to Orlando which from what I was told, difficult and lengthy when it comes to importing animals hence he needed to be in the kennel for 2 days instead of one.
He didn't have to quarantine when arrived in the US. As soon as his flight landed, the US clearance team picked him up from the cargo straight away and brought him to us at their office.
He is crate trained so I think that made things so much easier for him. Is your pup crate trained?
I feel he was definitely looked after very well. It's the aftermath and adjusting to the new environment that has been quite hard on him. Hope this covers everything but DM me if you have more q's.
@@reinventingpoppy thanks for your answer! At the video your dog looks very chilled as for a pet that had just made a long trip by plane! Amazing! They must have took care of him well indeed, we might try it as well, definitely worth it's price.
I lived in Florida for 4 years and just moved to another states, if you live in Tampa and need some recommendations for places to explore, let’s me know. I would love to share with you. Welcome to Florida 🎉
IKEA is popular and may be near you. Some electrical outlets in the bedrooms may be on a wall switch.
What you decided to do with your London property? Have you sold it or rented it?
I can get fans with lights
Hello ❤
I love you 😘
You highly motivate me in your videos, I really like your content, and this made me to think that is not too late yet for me to rebuild my life. All the way from Namibia.
Do you think you'd moved another country if you were single? I'm in my early 30s and been moving around a lot throughout my life and (still!) sometimes I kinda wanna settle somewhere haha
Have you tried to pull from the chain of that "light".
@@reinventingpoppy switch must be
on too when pulling it :)
Just saying, cosh i have one that works that way. Is the chain for the speed ?
It´s got to be for something ..
Hmm, I'm confused I assumed you have been single all those years. On this video, you mentioned you have a husband so your not alone
Say do you watch anime?
The United States is the last place I would move. However, you are a social media influencer so you are probably love all the bullshit.
I moved for a thriving business opportunity as mentioned in the video.
I’m so impressed that you quite literally just moved across the globe and you’re still creating content! Please remember to take time to rest and maintain your peace!
It hasn't been easy to find time for sure but that's really sweet of you, thanks girl 😘😍
Totally Agree, from my experience I feel that When you love youtubing it’s therapeutic to film & share😍 Good to hear about the leap of faith! I’ve resided & lived in 6 different countries & beginnings are always challenging however with time you’ll grow with experiences & wouldn’t want it any other way. Kudos on tax reduction, living in the UAE & Saudi Arabia for 12yrs it’s zero income tax which is a bonus.
