MY AU!
So this scene takes place 2-3 years before any of the tragic events, meaning at the time the Aftons were "happy" (kinda), so yeah William was accused for doing a scene that he didn't do and was sentenced to prison for 3 years (Note: Idk anything about law so this is the best I could do, please don't judge me 🙏) and it had been a few months since he was there, Mrs Afton had been trying to fight to free him because she was also a victim in the scene so she did what she could, 3 days before Michael's birthday William was proven innocent that he didn't do the scene and was free to go, but he knew Michael's birthday was coming up so him and Mrs Afton planned for William to come home on his birthday because Mike missed William the most (Yes they involved the police so as they play along on the call) and on the day of his birthday, he came with a stage entry XD
