  • I watched the 2000's film, The Whole Nine Yards, starring Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, Michael Clarke Duncan, Natasha Henstridge, Rosanna Arquette, Kevin Pollak, Harland Williams, Carmen Ferland, and so many others. I had heard of this film, I just didn't know it was gonna be this much of a roller coaster. I didn't know who was gonna kill who!!

"Damn it, Jimmy. What the hell did you have to go and move in next door to me?"
"Oz, do you know what kind of soil they have in this back yard? I've been here two days and I've got little tomato plants..."
    "Oh my God."
Fun Fact: The three kids who run between Jimmy and Oz when they are standing next to the flower cart are Bruce Willis's three daughters, Tallulah Willis, Scout Willis, and Rumer Willis.
Musical Fact: The blues song that plays as Oz arrives in Chicago and meets his friend at the Oyster Bar is performed by Bruce Willis and his band. The harmonica solo featured in the song is played by Willis himself.
Medical Fact: Dental records cannot be faked. It isn't just a matter of matching up dental work on a couple of Panellipse films (as shown in the movie). There is also everyone's unique bone density/structure, unique root structure, individual tooth sizes and variations in shape to be considered. These are things that cannot be altered. Moreover, those are the things that they look at when identifying someone from dental records.

The 'Whole nine yards' is a military expression originally. The US military have used the M2 Browning heavy machine-gun for over a hundred years, and they use them on everything.
The ammunition belts come in a standard length of 27 feet, or 9 yards (just above 8 meters). To give the enemy "the whole 9 yards" means "keep firing until you run out of ammunition".

Bruce has a very wry sense of humor, and I really enjoy him in Whole Nine Yards. His mischievous smile always warms my heart, and when he tells his murder stories with such charisma 🤣🤣🤣
For one of his wackiest roles - Hudson Hawk (1991)
And Michael Duncan (RIP) always makes me grin. For a murderous hitman he's such a loveable 🧸, even when pummeling Matthew Perry.

As far as the meaning of the term, it means that you have expended all possible options and resources towards accomplishing a goal. Success or failure doesn't matter. You've done everything that you can do and whatever happens, happens.
The origin of the term is in dispute but one common legend says that it refers to the full length of of the Browning .50 caliber ammunition belts used by American, World War 2, P-51 "Mustang" fighters. When fully armed. the belts were nine yards (8.2 meters) long. By using the "whole nine yards", the pilots have expended their ammunition and no further offensive action is possible.
edited to add - Or I can let the film explain it and keep my piehole shut.

As usual, a great reaction. welcome back. I think they all played their parts pretty well, and it was a good balance between serious and silly.

Bruce Willis agreeing to guest appear on Friends (1994) for free, and because he lost a bet to Matthew Perry during filming, is actually an urban legend. In "People" Magazine, Star Spotlight 2000, 'Willis agreed to a guest stint on 'Friends' simply because he and Perry thought it would be fun.' News outlets mistakenly reported on the rumor and fans have been perpetuating it ever since. Willis was in fact paid for the role, including syndication runs, but donated the money to: The American Foundation for AIDS Research, AIDS Project Los Angeles, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the Rape Treatment Center, and UCLA Unicamp for underprivileged children.

This movie came out just two months after "The Green Mile. Just letting ya know.
I hated Oz's wife, Sophie. But I totally loved Jimmy's estranged wife that Oz falls in love with, later.
