  • learnlooklocat... 🌹 Before deciding on a mastectomy, it's crucial to be well-informed about the pros and cons. A patient shouldn't feel pressured by their surgeon to either undergo or avoid the procedure; the decision must bring personal peace. For those with a high risk, like a 40% chance of breast cancer, a prophylactic mastectomy can be considered. Even if diagnosed with breast cancer in one breast, removing both might provide peace of mind. However, decisions shouldn't be rushed. Breast cancer isn't usually a surgical emergency, so patients should take time to process their options. If a doctor pressures for a quick decision, seeking another opinion is advisable.
Yara V. Robertson, M.D. is fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist and is board certified in general surgery. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Robertson is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and completed her medical school at Quillen College of Medicine (East Tennessee State University). After finishing her general surgery residency at UAMS, she completed a fellowship in Diseases of the Breast at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS. In 2011, she moved to Atlanta, GA and spent 9 years in a private breast surgical oncology practice. In 2020, she was recruited back to Little Rock, AR and joined CARTI Cancer Center where she currently serves as Chief of Surgery.
She has served as Vice-Chairman of the Atlanta based organization Sisters by Choice (SBC), a non-profit organization that provides support for women diagnosed with breast cancer, educates on breast health, and provides free breast health screenings to uninsured women. Due to her work with SBC, she has received congressional recognition from Georgia Congressman David Scott. She currently serves as an advisor for Not Putting on a Shirt, which is national non-profit organization that advocates for optimal surgical outcomes for women who choose to go flat after mastectomy. She also serves in an advisory role for the organization Learn Look Locate which provides education and advocacy for the early detection of breast cancer. She serves as a board member for the Arkansas Cancer Coalition.
    About Learn Look Locate LLC
Cynthia Jordan, Founder of Learn Look Locate LLC in 2018 has generated a global movement to provide critical education for the early detection of breast cancer. It is estimated that one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. While most of these cases are diagnosed in women over the age of 50, the disease can affect women of any age. Early detection is critical to survival, yet many women are not familiar with the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
We advocate the importance of self-breast exams, what to look for when performing a self-exam, and when to see a doctor. We provide resources for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as for their families and friends.
The five-year survival rate for women who catch their cancer early is nearly 100%. Here’s an important statistic. Many women do not perform self-breast exams or see a doctor for regular screenings. Learn Look Locate LLC wants to highlight the work of organizations around the world that are working to promote early detection of breast cancer. We will feature stories of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and share their journeys.
There are several ways to diagnose breast cancer, including mammograms, biopsies, and ultrasounds. Once breast cancer is diagnosed, there are a few treatment options available, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The best way to treat breast cancer is to catch it early and to get the best treatment possible.
There is a strong community of women who have been affected by breast cancer. In addition, there are a number of organizations and resources available to help women find the support they need.
Learn Look Locate LLC provides resources for women who want to get involved in the fight against breast cancer.

Thank you for paying attention to the whole person. I got diagnosed with DCIS, stage 0, grade 1, in my right breast on 3/29/2024, following bilateral biopsies. . At first it felt like I was rushed, to see the surgeon, to schedule a date, etc. I decided I needed a 2nd opinion, which was the best thing possible. It gave me time to breathe, to do research on DCIS, to find the decision making tools I need to make treatment decisions. I had a lumpectomy last Thursday (6.13.2024), and waiting for the pathology report is hard. But I have real trust in my team, backed up by the 2nd opinion at Mayo Clinic, so I hope I can move ahead with whatever the next step is. I have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, & am used to processing lots of info, but the best thing I've done so far was to slow the process down long enough to get good information, & to be able to manage my anxiety well enough to think straight. I appreciated your straightforward approach, & how important it is for the patient to be seen as a person & to be a partner in decision making.
