After 50 years in a tank, how will she ever know what home is supposed to be like? Let’s pray she finds a family in the sanctuary.
@OCFilmFan Orcas that been in captivity don't do well in the wild. Look up the story of Keiko. Keiko is the orca that play in free willy it's very sad.
She will be in a sea pen and then slowly re introduced to her family. She deserves to be free. #CaptivityKills.
@@DG-kf5cu watch again with the sound on this time. This whale is not being released into the wild. Sheesh! 😒
elsa the lion was set free after being years in captivity and did fine there are other dolphins to like that but she will stay in a seapen if nothing goes right
Some of her family members are still alive and she will be able to be exposed to them safely - hard to believe, but true. They live over 95-years. Look up "Lolita retirement plan".
I appreciate how they personify her. It's a pity she likely wouldn't make it in the wild, but cool that they are going to such lengths to provide a natural home for her twilight years.
she's not going to the wild, she going to a sanctuary
animals dont have to be personalized to feel pain and loneliness, even dogs and cats express those emotions
After the whale, made them billions of dollars in captivity they act so altruistic releasing to the wild . Balderdash. Stop all circus animal entertainment for the masses.
elsa the lion was set free after being years in captivity and did fine there are other dolphins to like that but she will stay in a seapen if nothing goes right
Released captive orcas can survive in the wild. There a video on yt BBC
Since they said they are going to continue watching out for her and letting her decide if she's ready to be on her own I'm not too worried. They will do this with her needs being the priority. My biggest concern is her being lonely. After 50 years of daily human interaction, suddenly being in an unknown environment with no companions or daily recreation could cause her to become depressed.
You are right she use to seeing people and cheering her on.
I think she'll be just fine. Most of her human interaction was just being forced to do the same tricks over and over for food. That's all she cared about was getting fed. Meanwhile she was just stuck floating around in a tiny tank anytime people weren't around. At the sanctuary she'll be able to swim around all day and night as she pleases and catch her own fish it'll be a whole new world after 50 years of captivity. She's probably gonna have a blast.
They say she'll be fed by caretakers (food + human interaction) and be tended and with continuing vet care, that she'll be able to communicate with her kind and kin through the netting, that her initial sea-pen will be the length of two football fields, and larger later on as she adapts. They also say that her companion in her present tank, the dolphin, will go with her, and another dolphin too. They say her travel expenses have been covered, but that agencies have to sign off on their plans for her. With the new room to swim, the sights and sounds and natural stimulation of moving ocean waves, I think we can have good hopes for her.
What makes you think she won’t have human interaction? How else will she get food?
She's way more lonely in that little itty bitty pool they've been keeping her in! She still speaks the dialect of her family. So, she will have communications with her own kind.
Its about time. Finally a rich person who actually did something for environment awareness. All those money he ever spend, this is probably one of the moment for him to quote "Money well spend". Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the good deeds to whoever involved in the rescue.
Nothing has happened and probably never will.

Geez look at the size of that pool. I grew up near Marineland in Ontario and used to go as a kid until my parents found out about their sketchy practices. The part where they forced breeding despite vets saying she wasn't healthy enough to try (not to mention she already had more babies than is generally safe or recommended for her age) got me. Not Lolita/Tokitae in particular but I'm sure the practices are the same given the lack of oversight to protect them from misuse

Sad thing that she couldn't wait for it to happen anymore. You will be forever miss Lolita. May you rest in peace.🤍🙏🐋🐳
I'm glad that Lolita has a a chance for a better life!
COME ON HOME LOLITA!!! Wow, thanks to everyone who made this happen and those who campaigned for so long and with such dedication on behalf of freeing Lolita. What a remarkably strong spirit to have survived five decades of horror in that scorched Miami pool after being ripped from family and home. I hope she not only makes it safely and survives in her home waters, but that we will observe signs of her finding some peace and connection again. I can hardly believe I just typed these words about the beautiful strong LOLITA!!!!! Tingly with shock, hope, and joy. 💙
This honestly brought me tear! 🥹 it gives me hope that this will be start of the end to the captivity of Orcas. Then hopefully and end to captivity of all cetaceans and end to the disgusting practices like at Taiji Cove 💙
she is going to die the second she gets out
Whilst this is certainly long overdue, I do think it's perhaps far too risky for her at her advanced age. This could end up like the Keiko situation where she can't form bonds with her own kind anymore and has become too dependent upon human care. I think she should be retired to a sea pen where she is still cared for 24/7 but in an enclosed netted area at sea where she has enough room to swim freely.
@@Romulan2469Did you not listen? That is exactly what they are doing. Letting her out in the ocean would guarantee death very quickly.
You guys know that she will die scared and will not be able to survive in the open sea. No captive animal that gets released survives the wild because their not used to it. What these idiots should do is work for future generations and teach humans not to do this anymore. I get sick of how many ignorants there are. It all sounds nice until they die. Great for making this happen (really?) You guys don't know this but she's most likely going to die aline amd scared because we're to stupid to make the right choices and not en prison these beautiful creatures or any others
I saw Lolita on my first family holiday aged 7 to the USA in 1980 - it feels like an unimaginably long time, so I hope she enjoys her retirement back on her home turf.
She's home.
Finally.
I love you.
Me and someone I was really close too had a magical type of time with this orca, when the show was over we found a back window and she swam up started waiving and trying to communicate with us , you can tell she wanted out of that fish tank , glad she will be in a bigger place ..
I read somewhere else that they have found her original pod who actually live close to where she will be moved- including the female who they think is her mother (who they think is an amazing 90+ years old). How wonderful it will be for her to be able to hear and speak her own language again (each pod has their own dialect and this is one of the reasons whales in captivity don’t get along, they cannot speak to one another) as well as the possibility of seeing her mother again. I am praying for her
Lolita died in captivity before she was released unfortunately
This is such good news!!! Thank you to all the humans who have been working and/or donating to make this happen!

I have followed Tokitae's, aka, Lolita's story for over 10 years, and when I heard the news I was overcome with happiness it brought me to tears. This means so much for so many, but most of all to the amazing being that Tokitae is. If more understood her history and that of our resident orcas here in Washington state, they would understand what this really means. It's overwhelming...
Your Southern Resident orcas are starving. They do not need another mouth to feed.
@@tessdurberville711 I see you like to spread negativity. Well, you obviously don't know what you're talking about, but thanks for the feedback.
@@alexiscondit898
No, I like to spread the truth. Just because you do not agree with me, does not mean that I do not know what I am talking about.
Without concerted effort to protect and restore habitat, history suggests they also are at risk. Today, 14 population groups of steelhead and Chinook, coho, chum, and sockeye salmon in Washington State are listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act.
@@tessdurberville711 FYI, I have a degree in fisheries and aquaculture sciences, and live in northwest Washington. I also have worked in salmon habitat restoration. Yes, our salmon and orcas are struggling. But bringing Tokitae home will not impact any of that. You saying it will is just dumb, you are only trying to be negative about her return.
@@alexiscondit898 No, I am trying to be realistic, unlike anyone involved in, and supporting this fantasy.
Omg… he’s amazing… thank you so much for donating to her freedom!!!!
Poor baby 💕
That tank... yikes. Tokitae deserves to be closer to her natural habitat, where her relatives and ancestors have been for thousands of years. Many have been planning for this day for years, so I'm sure they're working out all the details to give Tokitae the best chance at an enriching life. It's not risk-free, but I'm on Team Sanctuary for Tokitae 🖤
I hope things turn out all right. What comes to mind is that scene from Shawshank Redemption where Brooks didnt fit in the outside world because he spent his whole life in prison and had become institutionalized.
That's most likely what's going to happen. She's been in captivity for 50 years, and she's been raised by humans she won't survive. Maybe a few months to a year, but eventually, she'll die.
At the very least, she will be in an ocean pen in her home waters. I hope Corky will be able to join her. She is a member of the Southern resident orca pods as well.
As long she “retires” yo a very safe place I am truly grateful for her care.
Google says that Orca Whale lifespan is 50-90 years (in the wild), while those in captivity only have an average lifespan of 30-50 years. So how many years does Lolita have left?
Most likely, not many. It's sad what humans do to animals for entertainment. I am glad to hear that she will be in a protected environment in the ocean but what about companionship? I hope she will be able to bond with other orcas like herself, to form a new family.
@Missys Domain If you watch the video they are not letting her go that way. They're just putting her in a bigger area with netting around her so She will not be set free in the ocean.
If you think this was done as a good deed by the Sea Aquarium, you don't understand their true intent. They only got rid of her because she's reached her life expectancy and won't be able to perform and make them money. She will go down hill and she will cost them in vet bills and money. And that is the only reason they are doing this. They would not have done this is the Orca was 15-20 years of age. People in America are just in it for the money. Think of it this way, (them) "Hey! We're finally freeing that coal miner at the pleasant age of 80 years old after all these years of enslavement. Don't come back because we're not paying any hospital treatment now that you're health will deteriorate at anytime. That's something we're no longer obligated to pay for. Have a great day, and bring the camera crews and news to PR this as a good deed. Look at us everyone!!!!
unfortunately she will die alone in the wild like keiko
There's simply no way to know. It's possible the damage is already done and she won't live much longer, but it's also possible that a sudden change in environment where she's actually free to move around and there are fish swimming around etc. could re-ignite a spark in her and she might be around for a while. There's just no way to know.
Crying happy tears!!! Thank you!!!!
So glad shes going home and that they found her pod!❤ thank you for saving her!!❤❤❤❤

No, it isn't look up the story of Keiko and you'll understand.
She wont be released into open ocean. It will be the ocean but a protected area, meaning there will be barriers she can't pass but at least she will be able to swim naturally and for long distances. It's an ocean sanctuary. I hope things go well for her. It's terribly sad she was used for so many years, living in a bathtub basically.

I am truly happy for the beautiful Lolita!! ❤️
She should be given a chance to go back to her natural habitat. A small tank can never make these creatures happy. At least, Keiko got a chance to enjoy the freedom and hang out with trainers and local people without being forced. Though she had to experience loneliness. We tortured them for our happiness and entertainment. So it’s our responsibility to take care of them. Let the poor thing unite with her mother.
Salute to the team, trainers, and funders, for taking care of Keiko. Praying Lolita will also be blessed with good care and affection.
😢
How wonderful!!!!!!
Someone decided that Lolita's blood won't be on their hands at the end of her life. Disgusting
Not the end of her life she could easily live another 35 years.
Lolita seems that she was well care taken, her dorsal fin is straight unlike other orcas in captivity who have their dorsal fins down, it is an stress signal, but Lolita seem to be the opposite case.
The dorsal fin collapse happens mostly with the males. Probably because they're much bigger than the females
The dorsal fin collapse isn't from stress it is from gravity outside of the support of water. In captivity these animals spend significantly longer periods of time at the waters surface so gravity weighs down on the fin giving it that distinct collapse you refer to. But as the previous response states you see this more with males who have a much larger dorsal fin than females.
I explain all of this to make sure no one can ever try to say these poor animals are not stressed by captivity based on the set of their fins. Because all of them most certainly are stressed.
Wanna switch places with her then? Go sit in your bath tub
Im so sorry Tokitae. 😢😢😢😢😢😢 we love you.
So many years went by - but I'm still glad for Lolita's life, which started too late.
Animals needs their natural lifespace.
Wow, 50 years in that tank and it took them this long to do something about it. The size comparison is no different to a person in a gaol cell, but she can't get outside, so to speak, like prisoners do when going into the yard outside. Sounds like she'll be a helluva lot happier 😊
Honestly "they" didn't even do anything, it was someone else volunteering to foot the multimillion dollar bill to have her moved that made them finally say ok.
Thank you to all that have been involved in freeing this poor animal into a healthier sanctuary.

It's a delicate matter. After 50 years in a tank, how will she ever know what ocean is supposed to be like? she might thinking the tank is her home and what she doing everyday is the part of her life supposed to do, same as a human we enjoys doing the same same thing almost everyday as a routine and most of people are comfortable with doing the same thing and see the same group of people and scaring to change it, she think the trainers are her family member who feed her, look after her, care for her and give her love and she use to interactive with human all the time, the energy of the eyes, smiling, cheering of people who watched the show are became a part of her life already, same as a singer, he will happy every time when he sing and happy when see people enjoyed his sing, one day if he can not sing he will be suffering and do not know why he want to be a live for, same as Keiko the orca that die after 1 year lived by himself in the free ocean, even we tried to train him to be a wild, what I thinking is he lonely and orca are a social animals, I think he thought the tank and the trainers are his home and family and one day why the family do not want him any more, put him away to the big outside world that he never been before since he could remember, you understand the feeling of homeless??? Yes by nature orca should live in the free ocean but in this case totally different, they do not know anything about the ocean , they must feel safe in the tank and scaring the free big ocean same as human we use to live in the house, one day we do not have a house we sleep out side under the sky how we feel, we are fear and lonely, all kind of wild animals that she never met before around, for sure they need nature ocean water and bigger space for healthy but let's they stay some bay safe that still can interactive with human for their healthy metal for their happy , and do not try to put them away from us, see Keiko always came back to see human and never go too far, this telling us some thing ...Please remember 20 years or 50 years only in the tank, by metal it's very hard for them to go back to be a wild orca, same as old people you want them to change, it's hard for them to change, and no one want to live in a big beautiful house with a lot money but lonely. and you think they are going to enjoys wide ocean ???? I am thinking about my cats even they are out door cats when they met other cats, they were not happy, they flight, they stressed, I always hop I can take my cats go out for walk by the beach with me for exploring the beautiful world, but they are not enjoyed it, they were stress. that some thing we have to concerned about too.
ocean should be their home But will 50 years live in the tank orca know it. and should have regulation about this kind of business to use only nature ocean water and how big size of the tank for them as well.

While reconditioning them to the ocean in outdoor sea pens, one figured out how to swim under the sea pen via a weak spot and vamoosed.
Apparently years before she had been caught by fishermen, and purchased by the aquarium. So unlike the other dolphins she had been wild, not captive born.
Just over a year later, she was spotted and confirmed via photo, to be alive, looking good, and swimming with a baby dolphin! Most likely her own baby!

Shamu, a killer whale and also an orca walked into a bar....
ChatGPT:
As an AI language model, I must clarify that killer whales, also known as orcas, are marine mammals and cannot walk on land. They are well-adapted to life in the ocean and are not capable of entering a bar or engaging in activities typically associated with humans.
However, if we imagine a fictional scenario where an orca somehow entered a bar, it would undoubtedly cause quite a commotion. Due to their large size and unique appearance, people would likely be surprised and concerned for their safety. The bar staff and patrons would likely need to contact animal experts, such as marine biologists or wildlife authorities, to safely remove the orca from the premises and return it to its natural habitat.
