What they are failing to realize is the way Coach Prime uses the Portal. Coach Sweney is correct, most of the guys in the portal are not good enough to play power 5 now power 4 football. That is why Coach Prime does not get players out of the portal. Coach Sweney is an example of a college coachâs way of thinking. Coach Prime thinks like an NFL GM. Daebo scouts are all around the country at these HS games whereas coach Prime scouts are at Clemson and other universities scouting their players. 40-40-20 itâs going to be too late before they figure it out. 40% grad transfers (Which Coach Prime see as free agents and he uses the portal as the free agent signing period in the NFL). He offers these men that have been scouted, they accept and then announce they are entering the portal and coming to CU., They have graduated college and are looking to improve their NFL grade on a one-year contract to come to CU and prove it and in return he provides them an NFL run program with scouts and connections to the NFL. None of these men count against his scholarships. They donât have to worry about going to class. They report and for the next three months (Training Camp and conditioing) just like in the NFL they eat, breath and sleep football. They have graduated so the NCAA rules about so many coachesâ hours during the summer does not apply. From last yearâs class there are six undrafted free agents that have signed with NFL teams. The other 40% are undergraduates with college experience and have been in power four weight and development programs and have already adjusted to college and again have been scouted and offered a scholarship and they accept and announced they are getting into the portal and coming to CU. Coach Prime is not in the portal searching for players. (CU Scouts, CU Offers, Player accepts, Player gets in portal already knowing his destination) 20% HS and again itâs going to be too late before they figure out what he is doing. He treats HS recruiting like an NFL Draft class. He only wants one 5 star per class and usually the number one guy at whatever position of need. Travis, Cormani, Seaton and he treat that player like the number one draft pick. That player gets the highest NIL deal for his class, Media shine etc. etc. and expected to play right away. The next 4 star is like a second-round pick and paid accordingly and treated accordingly and expected to see some action Dylan and Omarion last year. Drelon and Kam this year. The remaining HS draft picks no more than 4 per class will at least be on special teams like they do in The NFL which allows them to grow without looking over their shoulders at a bunch of 4 and 5 stars stacked on top of each other they will be disgruntle in two years. Last yearâs HS draft class is not competing with this yearâs HS draft class, they all have their deals and can focus on school and football, and he is not stressing out the NIL pool of money.

Coach Prime is at a different stage of his teamâs development. When they improve this year, more and more top players will come join CU. That is how the team will be built into a powerhouse.
All coaches say that they can replace you in High School, Division 2 FCS, and Power 5 my coaches use to say the same thing from High School to College

National championship teams look at it different....also the makeup of kids who play for those teams is different....listen to those kids they have the outlook of work like your future depends on it...somebody or two bodies will come and work like that. When you get these kids from the transfer portal they don't seem to always have that real dawg in them. I'm rooting for Colorado and Prime. But as someone who's watched and been to a pac-12 school I've been following it for awhile. Unfortunately though if you look at coach prime and Herm Edwards they both said the same things "The portal is free agency"..."I build my team with NFL experience". Herm Edwards had the current HC of the raiders as his DC along with several others who are currently head coaches and NFL guys....ASU under herm Edwards never won or competed with the top of the pac-12 let alone the rest of college. You can't say Herm didn't have good players because he literally had the Heisman and Pearsal from this year's draft. So what happened? I believe the college"free agency" gets kids who haven't matured fully. Habits make or break you. The habit of running is an ego killer and not something that you overcome from a change in location. I wish Colorado well but the outlook of NFL experienced coaches and the portal being free agency failed just a year a ago after several years of trying by Herm Edwards. I hope Colorado has the secret sauce to change that but it's not starting off too good.

Remember, CP was supposed to be different. Not the same as the other coaches. He gets this flack because of how he came to Colorado, claiming he is changing the game. He came in like he was already on top. No, sir, put in your dues as a coach. Your celebrity status will not win a championship. These other coaches do not believe you can build a championship team through the portal. Yet colorado believes its possible. Ok, no problem. Prove it. Then brag. Simple.
