Music video by The Beastie Boys performing Hold It Now, Hit It. (C) 1986 The Island Def Jam Music Group
#BeastieBoys #HoldItNowHitIt #Remastered #Vevo
I am 56 year black man, in 1987 I was 20 years old, I was born and raised in DC, I was a security guard, at a hotel that Beastie Boys Run DMC LL Cool J Doug E fresh Slick Rick stayed, and the concert was at the Capitol Center, real hip hop one of the best shows that I've ever been to.
The Beasties were an original. They never tried to act like they were from the hood, they had their own unique style which earned them respect from the hip hop heads.
it didn't hurt that the songs slapped real hrd
@Augusto Pinochet beastie boys might as well be very early hip hop artists. Damn near close to the inception of hip hop (not really but in terms of mainstream and made the genre taken seriously and watched out for)
❤ absolutely
They were completely their own kinda jam
One thing them and rap/hip- hop (Eazy -E, Salt-n-Pepa, 2 live crew, LL Cool J just to name a few) from the same time frame* had in common was either you enjoyed them or you despised them 🤔🙃
@christygibson193 Beastie Boys started in the late 70s early 80s as punk rock/hip hop band, basically invented their own style. They were way before some of those people you mentioned and actually Run Dmc was the side act for THEM at one point. The Beastie boys can all play at least 3 instruments apiece. They're pioneers and very talented. RIP MCA Adam Yauch. Saw them in concert in 1984 at 14 years old then I saw them with public enemy in Germany in 1992. DOPE stuff right there.
I love the Beastie Boys and I always will, but they regularly rapped about carrying guns and shooting lol but since they're these mainstream clean white kids here nobody takes it seriously so it was never a problem
i had a big stupid smile on my face the entire time i watched this
😆😆😆😂😂😂😂😂
Same :D it looks like they had so much fun and they look so happy. I want this :')
Same here; reminiscing ♥️
Me too💯
😂😂😂😂 this video was fun
This beat from 1986 still hits hard.
Rad ⚡️
Facts, nice bass
Definitely one of the hardest beats I've ever heard
The dorks in this video turned out to be one of the greatest music groups of all time. Love these dudes!!!
I was just thinking this as I saw this video..."What a bunch of flippin' dorks!".
Song was and is solid, the whole album I have memorized and in every possible format...
I'm 52 and I loved beasties. I was 16 blasting this in my car partying with my friends. Good times. 👍 it was real back then. Too fake now.
Yeah, @Colton R, not sure why you had to bring 'race' into it like that...I don't really care about a guy named after candy, and for that matter, Third Bass also preceded him...
@Colton R, I doubt actual Jews, especially from New York, think the 'killing Jesus' part 'funny'.
You can find yourself funny if you want...doesn't mean anybody else agrees with you.
Thank dog I'm not a 'New York guy'...I've been there...extremely unimpressed.
Little kids giving cabbies the finger, and their mom joining in, even though THEY were walking against a green...
Some idiots throwing rocks off of roofs and hitting people and cars...
Dudes in $90,ooo SUVs turning in their side mirrors to illegally merge into traffic to get into a tunnel and off the dogforsaken island...
I've driven across this country...been to Europe...never met or encountered such a collection of jerkholes and douchenozzles.
Also, I sent this screenshot to my friends in New York friends (who agree with my assessment, by the way, and have colorful things to say about the drivers too), and they LOVE the Beasties (as do I), and two of them are, in fact, Jewish. One of them is reasonably well-known JEWISH comic.
To quote him, "I see what he was going for, but he missed. That isn't comedy. Also, I don't think he knows the meaning of the word 'disparaged', though that explains why he thinks he is funny."
Please, stop while you're behind...
a few punk rockers who found hip hop, incredible
Jose Salazar they started it lol
The original drummer for leftover crack was also the drummer for beastie boys and suicidal tendencies. Hip Hop and punk rock are literally the same. Both are very anti establishment.

well it’s definitely of it’s time lol i wouldn’t call it fresh by any means but it’s still fun to listen to and enjoyable 30 something years later

These guys rap like they made hip-hop. Their confidence behind their lyrics and beats solidified them as legit legends
Lol that and a bunch of beer 🍺💪
Sounds a lot like DMC wrote some of this sh*t!
:D
The swag of the Brooklyn HC tribe
I was in the room as the assistant editor when this was cut on 45th street in NYC. The editors in the next room complained we were too loud. So we turned it up. The BASS was thumping!
Wonder if Chef boy RD and Rice-A-Roni paid royalties to them😂
They looked so happy together... They actually look like friends spending some good times... And enjoying what they love.. now if you get 3 Artis together is just for money.
I can literally watch this video on loop for the rest of my life
Facts its so hip hop makes me move
Real
Me toooooo
Because this is the only era that mattered
Yeah, the video feels like hanging out with goofy wasted Beastie Boys, it always puts me in a good mood.
the beauty of innocence and youth, I wish things could still be like this, everyone so fake now
And they were considered fake at that time by the people that loved "real music".
Funny how it all works, isn't it?
There's a shitload of songs that have came out in the last few years that people like you dismiss as "shit" and "fake".
But in 5-10 years, the people that are in to those current songs are going to be on CZcams talking about how those are the only "real" songs , and that the new shit at that time just isn't as good as the good old days 5-10 years prior.
And the cycle continues.
I hope you spend more time enjoying music than hating it.
agree
yeah so fake...they had fun doing their thing and its good music no autotune shit like today ..First record i bought was license to ill and it was and its still the best one...nowadays nobody makes so nice happy music its all about the money and shit...
goblin87 so true

I'm a black man I remember when they first came out on the radio I bought there cd them dam guys had their shit hittin I love their music then and to this day I still love them they earn my respect much love
I bought the tape after saving up my babysitting money. I took it to my little cousins house because he had a Teddy Ruxpin and thought Teddy's mouth would move to the Beastie Boys tape. It didn't.....I was sad, but that is life.
@@claytonbouldin9381 That would've been crazy cool back in the day. It's possible to program a teddy rux nowadays. But it requires some work. *Essentially the stereo tape is played back in mono, with the other channel being used to program movements.*
@@Left-Earth I'm sure some techie person has already pulled this off for sure!
I'm 62 and still love the Beastie Boys. I bought Licensed to Ill around the time my son was born so he grew up with this.
I got my Licensed To Ill cd at a cop auction where the cd was left in a stolen boombox. ~93. Made my own case with an empty and a sheet of typing paper so I knew the track names. Paul's Boutique came into my life soon after and I was hooked for life.
Bout to turn 45. I'm old too. Wish my dad was so cool; he did turn me on to some great oldies, but he stole my Ice Cube "Lethal Injection" tape. Meh, it wasn't his best anyway.
I'm a 42 yr old black brutha and I still feel 's vibes if this era. And they still bump today with no shame. a true classic from den white boys. may one of them rest in peace and da last two stay BLESSED! I miss those vibes I felt when they was flowing bak in da days. smh......(sigh). 😇
Eric Brown well said
Yea don't let them put race in the conversation and mix. we were always one Music completes you
Luckily, colour of skin has never been an issue with the beasties, as it should be in true hiphop. This band was/is so amazing it unites people of all colour, gender and generations. I can put on a Beastie Boys record at 2 in the night and it doesn't matter if you are a b-boy, punk, raver or metalhead, they all enter the dancefloor and go apeshit crazy. The only other band that can pull that off (that I know of) is The Prodigy. And alas, they are also missing a key member that is dead for a few years now.
@@Puschit1 every black person out here would call them culture vultures I hate that term everybody is making money why hate

What I love most about the Beastie Boys and this video in particular is that these guys are genuine as all, and genuinely having fun. Is music fun anymore?
These don't look like 3 guys who are worried about record sales or their image. Good times in the 80's.
Beastie Boyz forever the legends of Rap. RIP MCA aka Adam Yauch.
This beat ahead of it time, these Jewish boys had it going on. I'm a Black women and I always use to listen to them in the 80's my boyfriend use to laugh at me and then one day he called me to say he understood this song. I knew they were the bomb back then.
You're a black women ? Meaning you are more than one woman ? Wow that's amazing

Armoni Q Fields You know these guys started out as a punk band.
@Aronomi dont forget to thank Rick Rubin,Hurricane and Run-DMC...the engine behind the...ahem,talent.
I'm happy that identify themselves frequently to prevent any confusion.
I was a Jr. in High School when this came out. Much Respect to The Beastie Boys for making my teens the "Place to Be!"
I wore this tape OUT.
Me too. Had to tape it back together in 3 different places. LoL. Luckily it wasn't any of my favorite songs. But I loved this album. I think this was probably their best album.
phattieg Their very last album was surprisingly good I thought. I also thought Paul's Boutique was pretty incredible too, especially from a sampling perspective-but so different from License to Ill. Lots of things I didn't catch until years later when I had more exposure to music. All these years later, I can listen to License to Ill and I know about 90% of the lyrics, which is crazy when you think about it.
Give it up for Jackson Heights own, Mr. Randy Watson Same here, still know all the words to almost every song on this album. But in terms of hip hop, this album was pretty much all hip hop. Pauls Boutique wasn't so much so. It was kinda a mix of a little hip hop, a little jazz, a little rock. I only really listened to a few songs on it. Probably would have listened to more, but CD's make it too easy to skip tracks you don't feel like sitting through. I didn't too much care for "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" or "Fight For Your Right", but it was a cassette, so it was easier to just let it play. Either way, I loved this album, and thought about it the other day and figured I would play it here on CZcams. Actually was intending to play "Slow Ride" and ended up recalling the order of the songs as they were on the tape, and playing the whole album. LoL
phattieg I agree. I rarely listen to "No Sleep" and I always skip "Fight for your Right." Sure that was one of my favs as a kid, but as an adult it's not, and it certainly doesn't represent their best work. If you haven't already, check out Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. It took a few spins, but it's really well done. To the 5 Boroughs was also dope, which somehow I missed back when it came out around 2004. Peace.
I still do to this day.
Ahh, to be young in the 1980's!
***** YEP!
Between 1980 and 89, I went from 8 years old to 17!!! Yeah the music and clothes styles I liked, but I was super skinny and was bullied and made fun of at school, so it wasn't exactly the best times for me!! 43 years old now and teased a little but not as bad as it was when I was a kid! Single, work at a casino, living with my folks and I couldn't be happier!!! Would be happier without the crap music but yeah!!
David Theisen I guess its different strokes for different folks. I loved the 80's but hated the 90's. Spent far too long in a bad marriage. I guess it depends on the expieriences and memories each person has.
you made me sad

It was 1989. W.R. GA. Russel Parkway. Litchfield Theater. 1970 VW. Brand new very crudely made speaker box holding 2 brand new Kicker Stitches 15's pushed by a rather cheap 200 watt amp. The stereo was on but not playing just to keep everything warm. The cassette was waiting perfectly timed to the :57 mark in the song. We hit play and vibrated all the glass in the movies as we approached the entrance. So much so the manager came out and made us leave. We were so proud to build something so powerful on our own. The thing is we couldn't have done it without the Beastie Boys. Thank you BB's. For the music, the bass, the fun, and the memories. We owe you!!!
