Located at the center of the Mediterranean Sea, the island’s identity has been formed by cultures and traditions from Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Distinctly different from mainland Italy, Sicily offers stunning architecture, ancient archaeological sites, lively urban centers, spectacular natural scenery, delicious food, and friendly people.
In this video, I’m traversing Sicily, exploring some of the island’s most beautiful places. From the bustling streets of Palermo to the impressive baroque churches of Noto. From historic Greek temples in Agrigento to the religious celebrations around Catania’s festival of Saint Agatha. From peaceful nature reserves of Trapani to seaside towns of Scopello and Taormina. And from the stormy coastal city of Siracusa to the slopes of Mount Etna volcano.
This travel documentary was made in February 2023, when I had the chance to travel around Sicily for 2,5 weeks.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:
We start our journey in Catania, a dynamic city with plenty of cultural and historic sights. The highlight here is the Festival of Saint Agatha, one of Europe’s most impressive religious celebrations. Not far from here is Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe, that we visit while covered in snow. Nearby Acireale is known for its spectacular carnival, one of the best in Italy.
We drive up the coast towards Taormina, a popular holiday destination with stunning mountain vistas, charming beaches, and a captivating ancient Greek theatre. In Siracusa, we encounter a massive storm that completely changed the atmosphere of this beautiful city. It’s in Noto that we admire the exceptional baroque architecture this corner of Sicily is famous for.
Through the hilltop village of Enna, located in a broad valley with panoramic vistas, we reach Agrigento, to visit the amazing Valley of the Temples. We briefly walk along the beach at Scala di Turchi, peculiar rock formations made of marl, before stopping in the fishing port of Sciacca, just in time to meet the fishermen returning to the town.
Poggioreale and Cretto di Burri are stark reminders of the earthquake that hit the Valle del Belice. Further West, we find the salt pans of Saline di Trapani, a protected nature reserve that was once the most important salt production site in Europe. A steep road up leads us to Erice, a medieval town with 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape.
We travel onwards to the Gulf of Castellemare, a region filled with attractive villages and rugged coastal scenery, and visit places like San Vito La Capo and Scopello. We finish this journey in Palermo, the vibrant capital city of Sicily, to explore the lively street markets, eat some delicious food, and admire the striking buildings.

Thank you for this wonderful production. I think you do excellent work. It is a great relief from the brash, noisy and uncultured approach of some travel documentaries to be found. Subscribed.

Cool👁
You are one of the best doing shows like this! I am so impressed! My maternal grandmother was born in Sicily and moved to NY at the age of 9 years old. Been here twice. Love the Greek Connection because in my DNA from 4 companies I had up to 12 percent Greek South Balkan DNA. Some North Italian too. Thank you!
Super Great job Stef. What you captured on video and also the information you gave were top notch. I am Sicilian and will be returning there permanently in a very short while. I like that you went out in the 'cyclone' for a great meal, because that's exactly what I would do. But you are right to heed the warnings given as well of course. Sorry I missed seeing the snow. Love that. Keep up your amazing videos. You are very very talented.
Thanks a lot for your kind words Marco. Hope you will enjoy returning to Sicily, it's a spectacular island.
Awesome video the filming is great

Love your videos, Stef! What a marvellous island Sicily is! Definitely a place to visit in future
You should travel there Daan!
Wonderful video!! I’m going to Sicily in April/May so I’ve been watching and reading a lot. This is by far the best and most informative video I’ve seen. Very professionally done. I won’t have a car, so I hope I’ll still be able to get to many places. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for your kind words, I appreciate it. I do think you can see many of these places with public transport. Enjoy your travels!
Questo è il paese più bello del Mondo.
It's really beautiful indeed.
Such a great video, well presented and narrated, thankyou. I’m going to Sicily next year for one week. I’m staying in Giardini Naxos and will explore the east coast predominantly. Do I really need a car? My preference would be to use public transport if it’s available up and down the coast. If we go to Agrigento, is the transport available? Thanks again, Robert, Sydney Australia.
Thanks for your kind words Robert, glad you liked the video. I honestly didn't explore the public transport options, as I wanted to rent a car for the whole island. But I did see plenty of buses going up and down the East Coast of Sicily. There are also train services. Enjoy your travels there next year!
My beautiful island !!
It really is beautiful!
Have been a few times. Love it. Really enjoyed how you captured it including your audio.
Very happy to hear that David, thank you.
I am from Siracusa, shame you couldn't show much due to bad weather.
Definitely, although I'm glad that I still saw something. Hope you were OK during that storm.
The land of my ancestors. Resuttano and Palermo. How I wish I could visit but alas it will never be so now. Beautiful video. Thank you!
a beautiful video.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Verry nice documentary. 🙂
Thank you very interesting video
Great videos you make!...it is also extraordinary, the way you make people you encountered along your many trips to surrender themselves to be capture in camera, in a sort of "slow-motion" offering of smiles and kindness.
thank you for the link its amazing
Glad you like it!
Hi Stef,
I’ve been following your videos for a long time and I greatly respect your work on many levels. Your video of Ethiopia is just outstanding.
I am learning how to create videos and I have some observations and perhaps questions. In your earlier videos you seemed to use a tripod quite a bit as there was zero movement. If that was the case, wasn’t it rather cumbersome and inconvenient (though it yielded perfect quality)? I noticed in the Sicily video that most of the land based footage is handheld. Do you use a gimbal? Also, action cameras like GoPros are rather limiting in that you cannot control the depth of field so where do you elect to use them? I assume with scenes such as holding outside the moving car in the rain, and very low near street level.
Oh, btw, you might wanna pick up the DJI mics. I just got them and they are quite good at suppressing wind noise. They have many features that you’d like. Great little system.
Anyway, I’d enjoy chatting and thanks for making such wonderful videos.
Thanks a lot for your kind words, I'm happy that you're enjoying the videos.
Yes, I used to shoot a lot of static footage, sometimes on a tripod, but mostly on small bags filled with rice or beans (was a great little trick). Cameras have really progressed these days and it's easier to shoot good handheld footage as you know. In Sicily I did use a gimbal for a lot of footage. GoPros are useful for more unusual situations and angles, but you're right that they offer less manual control.
I will look into those DJI mics, thanks for suggesting, and good luck with your video work!
Best wishes, Stef
Best. ❤
Glad you liked it!
Hello Stef. Thanks for sharing this great video of Sicily, Italy. Do you have new videos of Northern Italy for 2024 or Croatia 2024 and of course in good weather. LOL = Laugh Out Loud. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot for your input. I don't have recent videos from Croatia and North Italy. But a few older ones that you might like.
aesthetic Mind blowing
Happy that you liked it, thank you.
What a wonderful documentary. I love your style of narration and you really captured the essence of these amazing cities!❤
Thanks for that, I'm glad you like the style of videos!
Beautiful ❤
documentaruio fatto bene.....bello ed interessante...well done....thank You...
Thank you
¡Gracias!
Thank you Ivan, that's very generous!
When I read the monumental Ab Urbe Condita Libri, by Tito Livio, something struck me as strange. During the II Punic War, Rome sent Roman soldiers who survived the catastrophe at Cannae to fight in Sicily. Marcelo's men, who saved themselves by retreating from the battlefield, would remain in Sicily for the duration of the war in Italy. Apparently this was a punishment for the dishonorable escape from battle, because their life away from their families would be much sadder, more difficult and dangerous than on the continent. This documentary shows a beautiful island, but with a somewhat unpleasant climate. Not to mention the earthquakes and the danger arising from the ever-active volcanism in Sicily.
💫
Nice video
Thanks for this upload! Great video! Some of your pronunciations are incorrect (my family is from Catania) but your videography is superb. 😊
Thanks a lot for your kind words and comment!
fair play nice vid
Great video of a beautiful part of Italy! May I ask which camera did you use to film it?
I like your video. I'm from China
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching :)
It is unique as sicly has regiliously people wearing white dress in special occasion similarly carried some like monoments like muslims carrier tazias in month of Mohurrum .❤🎉
Beautiful❤What drone do you use?
Thank you, on this trip I used a DJI Mini 3.
Documentary backround music where you take bro.
It's from Artlist.
SICILY is like IRELAND and SICILIANS are Like IRISH, 2 EUROPEAN ISLANDS who are under English and the Italians Empires ,
Very happy to hear that, thanks for your kind words.
What kind of drome are you using?
On this trip I used a DJI Mini 3 Pro, which is very handy as it's allowed to fly in areas that bigger drones are not.
4th🎉🎉
Americanos povo dos estados unidos vão para a Itália
What country is he from?
Took a gene test to find out my family is sicilian. Specifically they stayed in one little town on the southeast for hundreds of years! If i go back ill be the first in a very very long time
Thanks for sharing that. It must have been interesting for your to find out.
Sicilian women are more dangerous than shotguns. The city is a legend. Here men are forged in iron. And bravery is as common as macaroni and Cheese. The city which inspired Mario Puzo.
god father was born in here
Nice voice, but gets smothered when you add music. How about geology.........you walked over a white formation - pumice?
Thanks for your input, I will have a look at the voiceover in next videos.
very ordinary ! nothing much !
Sorry to hear that! Although there's nothing wrong with ordinary I think :)
Mafia city
While it's still there, I wouldn't call the entire island that...
You need a quick, cold shower and you'll feel better. 3000 years of history, and that's all you can say?!
Please don't give nature a gender.
😢 you firgot the mafia, the economic backwardness the environmental disaster.
The whole island wiukd be a shame for any othe developed country and thei government...
I decide to focus on the positive parts in these travel videos. But you are right, those issues also exist.
wow nice video CONGRATULATION
Thank you!
It is unique as sicly has regiliously people wearing white dress in special occasion similarly carried some like monoments like muslims carrier tazias in month of Mohurrum .❤🎉
Yes, it was quite a unique event to witness.
