Marcus Aurelius says ‘You have been formed of three parts - body, breath, and mind. Of these, the first two are yours insofar as they are only in your care. The third alone is truly yours.’

The things that disturb us are not things themselves, but our judgments concerning them.

We are not our emotions or thoughts. It's hard to remember this, but this is the beauty of mindfulness and meditation, to remind us that we don't have to identify with the emotions we experience. The mindfulness book "30 Days to Reduce Stress" by Harper Daniels helped me a lot with this, as did Meditations by Aurelius and the Tao Te Ching.

Its a good wisdom, but we need to pursue our goals without put enormous blame upon brain if fall out of these objectives . Think critically about each step to avoid your collapse entiely and lose the ability to rise up again.

Marcus wrote his thoughts down: so we can learn from him.
Do you know of another great, earlier stoic philosopher we should be learning from as well? I ask because I am curious.

@@alt9562..... 'basically' was a very crucial part of my statement, and OF COURSE he repackages what others have said before him. Thats why his introduction is all about who taught him what, which is also a running theme in his meditations.
He literally did not intend to write a book for others and claim that these were his own ideas. He wanted his meditations, his thoughts and reflections based on the foundation of his teachings, to be burned.

I cant fully agree on no.3. I think it’s pretty subjective.
Negativity is maybe needed if you were a person that does not have motivation but if you have been struggling with negative emotions for the longest time (depression) it leads you back to that sad person you used to be and start having panic attacks again n again.
I think to control emotions, you also need to remind yourself to be grateful and humble as well as being rational. Not entitled or compelled though.

peace of mind is everything. Happiness comes when we are 100% honest with ourselves and others don't sweat the small stuff 🫶🏼
