- After becoming one of the most popular EV brands in the world, BYD aims to take to the UK market by storm with their latest addition: the BYD Seal.
A luxury electric car through and through, the BYD Seal is here to rock the boat, and the EV market, with its polished driving, sleek styling, blistering 0 - 62mph speed of 3.8 seconds, and cutting-edge technology. Plus, with BYD’s patented Blade Battery, you can enjoy next level performance and a WLTP range of 354 miles with unparalleled safety.
But is this enough for the EV newcomer to get the ‘Seal of approval’? Find out as Duncan Vincent puts the Seal to the test, while also subjecting us to his many seal puns, in this episode of Road Test.

The White Seal with the dark tints and accents looks great
It's a strong look.
nice. subscribed. like the way the video, color etc. alot of work/prep. nice
Thanks for subscribing! Really glad that you enjoyed the video and noticed all the effort. Lots more cool stuff to come.
Been looking to change from an M440i gran coupe and popped into BYD Linwood yesterday, Scott was great and gave me a full show around and I was lucky to get a test in Design model. Have to admit I really enjoyed it, first impressions its great.
Always good to make a strong first impression. It's great to hear that you had such a good experience at the branch.
BYD have done a great job with the Seal. However I would choose the Xiaomi SU7 over the Seal if it ever makes it to the UK.
At least you got a test drive! Had one booked at Perth but turned up to find the car had been taken down to Linwood that morning.
Hopefully you'll get an opportunity to test-drive one soon! And in the meantime, we hope that this video was useful.
@@ArnoldClarkAutosI have done test drive byd seal performance, I feel little continuous vibration on the steering wheel column (feels like not enough cushion on the front axle) especially when passing rough asphalt road or uneven road surface, please kindly share your experience regarding this issue
Beautiful car. Very good that have child protection alarm
Test drived today and it was a great experience. The only thing I didn't like was all the safety sounds that came frequently and loud. There is a way to turn most of it off, but it turns on the next time you start the car.
new ota has tuned them down

I was able to sit in the BYD range at a dealership but no test drive available. I agree the Seal is very comfortable and attractive. Biggest drawback for me (and my dog) is lack of a hatchback. I currently have a VW id 3 which is very spacious.
The ID.3 is a good choice. There will definitely be more demonstrators available soon.
My Seal (EU) has wireless AA and Carplay?
Mine supposedly has wireless AA and wired ACP
On the test car the indicators were on the right but when I bought the car they were on the left as normal, love the car after 2 months of ownership couldn't fault it, would like to see wireless CarPlay and a better app.
Good to know! That's great to hear that you're still enjoying it. Hope you have many more happy years of driving.
What do you think of all the safety sounds in the car? I find it a bit annoying that it alarms even if I drive a few km faster than the speed limit.
I like your accent!
Thanks for the review
You're most welcome! There are plenty more videos with those dulcet tones.
@@ArnoldClarkAutos Nice presentation but would benefit from improvement in audio. There's far too much boom or echo or reverb (not sure of correct term). Often adjusting microphone placement provides huge benefits (as opposed to a pricey mic).
TBH, BYD should add an option where the owner can use the animal sound as horn that associated to the model.
You would definitely get out of the way if you heard a Seal barking at you.
Appealing!
It's a Seal with appeal.
Does the front seat have back massage?😊
The wipers are on the correct side😂
Yes... but we're used to driving cars from Europe.
@@ArnoldClarkAutos I’m getting one in Australia because unlike a Tesla, it’s on the correct side 😁😁
400L boot is not very big for the class of car which is a deal breaker for me
That's fair. Only a little smaller than the Tesla Model 3, but certainly not the most practical.
Why does every British review of this car go on whinging about the indicators?
In Australia yes they tend to be on one particular side, but when there is a brand who has it on the opposite side WE JUST GET ON WITH OUR LIVES
every British review I’ve seen on this car acts like their first born was stolen 🙄
As it was something that happened during the review, we thought it was worth mentioning. We apologise for this overreaction and from now on, we will fully embrace stoicism.
Understand not one single word, what language he is speaking?
Duncan is speaking English. Closed captions are also available. Hope that helps.
China EV…. No can do friendo!!!
Well, thanks for watching anyway!
