    Great reaction! I had a similar thing happen with Thomas Dolby's I Love You Goodbye. My mother passes very suddenly with pancreatic cancer while the Astronauts and Heretics album came out and every time I hear I Love You Goodbye (which is one of the most amazing songs ever recorded!), I think of her. That's what music does, it touches our souls.

    "With or Without You" just never gets old for me. The unique sound of the guitar played by The Edge adds so much to their music, the moment you hear it you know it's U2, even without hearing Bono's voice. Glad you did this one and enjoyed it!

    This song is absolutely timeless. It came out in 1987 and it was totally different to what was around at the time. You can’t put an era on it , you can’t put a year on it , it’s just timeless . It’s a perfect song
    Enjoyed your review. Condolences about your mom
    Try U2 One. Another masterpiece from them

    U2 live is the way to go. One of the only few bands I MUCH prefer live over studio.

    U2 more mature physically and musically but they haven't changed! In fact they're better than ever. Truly iconic!! And the song WITH OR WITHOUT YOU will always be a classic that will reasonate at one time or another with anyone. Loved your down to earth interesting reaction, Hap!! 💜 💜 🎵

    I really miss you HAP3! Your reactions are always so genuine and thoughtful. There's something so visceral, so primal and raw about U2 music. It vibrates from a really deep place. I know Bono is a very introspective and spiritual man so I feel like his songwriting craft is pure catharsis. The way this song builds to a crescendo and then settles after the big release is a good example.

    U2 are iconic, recognizable and this classical song although from 1987, still sounds fresh - incredible. Great memories to my youth. You're right, HAP, they are legendary and among the greatest. Their catalog is huge and I can't wait to explore more with you here on the channel. And HAP again, thank you for another fantastic reaction 🤩💕🙋🏻‍♀️.

    What really put U2 on the map was their performance at Live Aid. All bands had a set amount of time to do their sets. Bono always was and still has been to this day, very interactive with the audience. He dropped the mic at one point, jumped down two levels to the audience, somehow spotted a fan being crushed all the way over to one side, went there, tried to get security attention to help her. They didn't understand and brought out two other fans. Bono jumped all the way down, and was going to go into the crowd of 85,00 himself to get her.
    Security finally got her out. She said later she thought he saved her life. The rest of the band kept playing because they didn't know where he'd gone or what was happening. Bono returned to finish singing the song, but they'd gone way over their time. They thought they were done for, and career over with. Bono offered to quit the band because it was his fault.
    What happened up there did the opposite and put them out there to the world, and that was the real beginning of their becoming the biggest band in the world.

    Every time I hear this song I think of the Friends episode when Ross requests the radio station to play it for Rachel…😂

    Oh U2 are definitely considered legends. Yes, it’s a love song but from the lyrics…about unrequited love (which always gives off a more melancholy meaning than a traditional love song). I have always loved this song. Their skills are already top notch. I also noticed the bass more prevalent in this song. Great reaction!!!

    This is a wonderful treat for my ears and musical soul. You talk of them being so cohesive and they are the one band that has all of the original members since inception, 1978. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullin Jr. still sound as fresh today as they did in the beginning. From the first chords you know it is U2 but they do not sound stale. They are iconic!! Those words so resonate, "can't live, with or without you" ❤❤❤. Wonderful reaction Hap, for a wonderful song. 🎉 Legendary indeed.

    If you ever want to test the bass on your system, go with With or Without You or Mysterious Ways :)

  • @lauraallen55
    @lauraallen55 Před 24 dny +6

    If you want to hear something *completely* different from them, and even better in my opinion from The Joshua Tree songs, listen to any song from Achtung Baby. They reinvented themselves for that album, and went on a tour that was insane and not like anything anyone had seen before called ZooTV.
    Big U2 fans love The Joshua Tree. Immense U2 fans love Achtung Baby.
    One
    Mysterious Ways
    Love is Blindness
    Until the End of the World
    Zoo Station
    The Fly
    Ultraviolet
    Just a few from AB - You will not be sorry! :)

      Achtung Baby and the rest of the 90’s trilogy is exquisite.

      Great list. I may swap Mysterious Ways for Acrobatic. But every song on the album is perfection so hard to go wrong.

      @@nianfiedler9691 Honestly, I just started typing songs from AB off the top of my head lol! The last three songs on the album are one of my favorite things ever to listen to (Acrobat, Ultraviolet, Love is Blindness). I like Acrobat more than I do Mysterious Way, but yeah, every song - not one to ever skip!

    • @lauraallen55
      @lauraallen55 Před 22 dny +2

      @@nianfiedler9691 I agree! They really reinvented themselves with AB and ran with that idea with Zooropa and Pop!
