  • I have had the Difluid Omni for two weeks and I have gotten into a routine of collecting data during my espresso shot so I wanted to share what I was doing in the experiments I was trying to carry out.
I’m collecting a lot of data and my aim is to see what data is useful and then trim it down.

Regarding particle analysis, we recently compared the results from our new lab sieve machine with the Omni particle analysis tool. We discovered that the Omni device is only capable of measuring particle sizes under 400 microns and is not suitable for particles larger than that. Moreover, we concur with your observation that the Omni's small sample size can result in less accurate readings.
Although we're still awaiting the promised app update from Omni, we're becoming increasingly doubtful that this function will be useful. As a result, we're continuing to rely on our lab sieve machine for precise particle analysis results.

Oh that’s good to hear your testing. Be careful comparing sieve to imaging as there can be discrepancies between the sieve hole shapes and how sifting affects particle shape.
However, I would agree that the smaller sample size makes measuring above a certain particle size challenging. This could be overcome with multiple samples.

Nice. I don’t need one but it would be fun, for a while anyway. But a question, what practically are you going to do with the color? The coffee tastes good or not. If the ground color is lighter (as you might expect) than the outside of the bean, what can be done with that information to improve the taste of the coffee? Ultimately I think, there needs to be some practical purpose for a tool like this, and I’m not sure what that is yet.

I’m not exactly sure. I was collecting to see. I think it is more useful as a tool to help analyze roasting. I’ve been doing more roasting experiments so we shall see. I suspect roasting multiple batches, one could use color to quantify consistency

Hi. Have you done more testing on this unit or compared it to other products on the market? I am wondering if the colormeter and particle analysis have improved with updates. Thanks

For color, I have compared it to LeBrew and Syncfo here rmckeon.medium.com/comparing-coffee-roast-color-analyzers-initial-data-aa285c5804a5

328 microns median particle size is ~ -45+50 mesh screen size. This seems coarser than what I'd expect for espresso grind.

Yeah I haven’t compared to my other method yet.

Excellent video! Have you conducted more testing and have further thoughts on how consistent this unit is within it's own measurements ? For example are the results consistently repeatable with the same roasted bean ?

Yes I have a few articles on it.

I want to compare to another color meter and I want to compare the particle distribution to mine. I’m waiting for raw export for that

How does it compare vs Lighttells CM200?

      @espressofun6091  Před 9 měsíci

I’m not sure. I haven’t tested the lighttells

You can learn about the LEBREW coffee roasting analyzer,
The agtron value he tested is very close to that of Lighttells, there is basically no difference.
      But the price is cheaper!
Many coffee roasters use this product.

Have you had a chance to compare the omni with a reputable colour analyzer?

No, I haven’t yet. A friend is getting his fixed, and then I wanted to compare.

@@espressofun6091 ah okay, it be cool if you could make a comparison video when he gets his back since I don't think there anything online yet - at least not in english

Omni is not a mature product, color test results varies on different units, I've seen one unit even has 10 degrees diffenrence when comparing to a CM200.

Maybe you need to calibrate it with a color card first.
