I cannot thank you enough for this video. You have saved me $1764.37 from the dealership's prices. Instead of doing this troubleshooting, they said I needed an entire audio system. I purchased a fiber optic loop from the dealership and the culprit was the Satellite Radio module. I plugged in the loop and now I have audio in all components and the SOS System now works.
I have a 2007 550i and the procedures works the same. I recommend changing the title to BMW Fiber Optic Troubleshoot, that would increase your views by 20k. I stumbled upon your video through youtube suggestions.

I started to have issues with my subwoofers and started to dig on how to repair it. Long story short, I added an EQ and a couple of amps to my 2003 745Li and now all of my sound system is independent from that garbage Logic 7 BMW put in these cars. I can finally play music off of my iPhone or any other MP3 player...and LOUD!!! :)

truly helpful.....2006 e66 750liI had no radio, cd player, satnav, clock, tv, or sounds of any kind.I bought a fibre optic loop and started in the boot (trunk for you Am's) nav disc player first, -no change.the big one next (don't know what it is) -no change.logic-7 thing next, BINGO! I pulled the plug and inserted the loop then went back in the car and the radio is on!I have sound from all speakers although it sounds quite dull....also,satnav, tv, radio stations, cd player, information sounds and chimes- it's all there.so now I know which component is at fault and I feel quite triumphant so far as I feel a bmw tech would have cost me a bundle so far.....now to look for an answer about the logic-7 box/thing/amplifer whatever it is lol.many thanks so far...........

+smooth gaskin "audi a8 fibre optic loop diagnostic connector" from amazon.when you get it, break open the plastic "lollipop" shaped frame and remove the loop.......you end up literally with a small piece of f/o cable with a small plug at each end.what are you working on?

Your video is well done and very helpful. Our 2004 745i Motorola Bluetooth appears to work but when we attempt to pair with our iPhones the pairing screen comes up and disappears.
+Steve Siegwalt Unplug the battery in the car for 5 min to reset the bluetooth module and try again. If it is still the same then most likely the bluetooth module is bad.

Hi There ! Share my efforts. Fell into the trap BEFORE i understood how its all connected, Like Xmas lites 1 buld goes out whole string goes out .. I bought Typical Logic 7 amp ... used ,,, still not all speakers work ...... Waiting now for Used ASK unit... ( for 04 e65 745) As my car is that ... Never twigged on ASK unit rubber volume / off on button just was wiggly . n just spin NO clicking . Wait n see Everything wit the radio was good , disply etc JUST sound from only 1 door speaker Great video!!!!! BTW
So I put a lollipop on the logic 7 amplifier even tho cds would play and the radio it would just cut in and out so I put one on it and it stopped it cutting in and out. But my question is how do I service my 745i 2003 e65. I’m hoping when I register my battery it will fix my trifecta light bc it’s so annoying seeing it
70% of this is the amp which is notorious for going bad. I am on my 5th unit in 3 years of owning a 745.
NAAM COMM true all my speakers worked except the underseat subs went to junk yard got a new amp $12 and it worked !!!

Hi. Great video. I have a problem with my 2007 750i. I noticed while troubleshooting that all of the modules have a red light going through the fiber all the time, but the amp does not. Should the amp always have the light on like the other modules? Maybe I have a broken fiber? Where is the loop initiated from for the amp? Could a bad receiver cause the fiber not to light to the amp? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks for that detailed helpful video. I have a 2004 e65 and I started having the display freeze from time to time and not have the radio or anything working. Recently there has been a hissing sound in all the speakers. I used the balance and fade and heard the hissing sound in the front and back. The radio and cd player work but it has the hissing sound always. I disconnected the loop in the glove compartment for a min and reconnected but still hissing. Could it be the amp?
caleb essel The loop connector in the glove box has to be connected at all time. You need to get an extra one to check your fiber optic lines.
No sound at all .The other light are on but my loop connector in the glove compartment light doesnt come on. Would the fiber loop still help ?

I enjoy your knowledge on the audio system on BMWs.....I have a 06 750LI and my subwoofers under my front seats sound muffled and distorted!....Is it my Logic 7 amplifier or the subwoofers have gone bad??...If I use my lollipop on the Logic 7 and the subwoofer sound good, does that mean my Logic 7 is bad??....Pls. advise me on this issue....thanks....AMM
Most likely the problem is the Logic-7 amplifier not the subwoofers. FYI if you bypass the amplifier your subwoofer wont have sound anymore!
Hi I have a 2006 750i, when I listen to the radio only the driver side of the audio works... when I balance to the passenger side only, I can only hear crackling. What do you recommend me doing?

I sent the Navigation Unit via a BMW dealer in for repairs and i was told they could not find a fault, than the BMW agent told me they checked all the wiring and also could not find fault than they told me they found a fault on the monitor and repaired but i am still having same issue with only the nav part of the monitor not displaying clear. Now BMW has finally decided to replace the unit. when i spoke to them today they informed that the parts they will replace is what they describe as (80 Control Display) and (Monitor). Does that sound right as i got a price from another dealer and only for the unit in the trunk. i am confused and don"t think these guys know what they doing. I am now battling with this problem for 5 months, although they are prepared to replace the components at their cost why do they want to replace two components, whereas the other dealer gave me a price on only one. Hey I tried everything you said on this video with the lollipop and it’s still the same. Only thing I haven’t tried was the radio it self cause I don’t have another radio to test it out. Once a month the front speakers would work for an hour or so then nothing sometimes the display freezes.

I know it been years since u posted this video. But is it possible to not have the Fiber optic wires at the Navigation unit in the trunk? Mine don’t have the optic wire with the harness on the navigation unit.
Very helpful video. Question: I have a 2002 740 iL with a MK3 nav unit and non lighting radio screen. It flashes every few minutes. The faceplate tilts to insert a cassette. The display stays blank but the cassette, multi cd player and radio all play for about 2 minutes then stop. Turning the power on and off it will play for another 2 minutes. If I bypass the MK3 and that is the problem, will the audio display work again? Also, if so, can I leave it bypassed? (dont need the ancient gps) Thanks
so i just need the optic fiber bypass module loop? then just "bypass" everything? then ill be fix or will that "lollipop" tell me which one to replace?
It will tell you which one is bad and if you are not using that module then you could leave it bypassed for ever.

I have a 2007 650i. I'm trying to troubleshoot the audio equipment. If The CD Changer is missing will it need to be bypassed? Also what is the part number on the MOST loop you are using in the video. Thanks
Phil McLeod Yes, it needs to be bypassed. The plug that we use is a modified one.
HiTechElectronic Do you sell this plug? If not how do you modify it? I have a MOST LOOP but the bottom of it is female. The bottom of yours is male with what looks like opening in the end to go over the two leads of the optical connector. Thanks

Can you please tell me if I would replace the communication module of my 2005 facelift with an 2007 e65 communication which it has the PK on it, it might work without inserting the module in the system? My issue is that when I am trying to connect my phone to car by bluetooth it asks me for that 4 digits pin which I don't know how to find them since are not written on the communication module.

A lot of wiring involved from behind the ASK, to your trunk. Besides your sets of RCA's and remote.

I've been having some problems with my BMW E65 745i 2002, the radio is not working but the CD works fine. I can also see all the radio stations and find new ones, but I'm not getting any sound from the radio, but get a great sound from the CD.
What could it be?
+Boddi “Bugout” Jonson It could be a bad Tuner module or ASK unit.You are welcome to send both of them for a free bench test.
So I used a optical loop for my mmi radio and it work for about a month but now it cut back off, and won’t come back on I bought another loop and it still doesn’t work, what’s my next option
Keep bypassing rest of the components to find the faulty one. If all are ok, you need to have your ASK unit checked out.
If the logic 7 has no bass at all from subwoofers I took the amp out unpluged the second small plug not the long one it got them to work but for 5 min then we shut the car off and turned it on they started workung at least 10 and went off iff I unplug the long one will it due any good and theres a white plug not attched to any thing is that supposed to be like that and

I need help on my ASK unit......When I play my CD player it will not memorize the last track I played.....It continues to go back to CD 1....When I turn the car off....it will go back to CD 1 rather than memorizing the last track I played!!...If I turn off the CD on track 7....even if it is only 5 minutes....it will go back to CD 1....the beginning....It will not memorize the last played CD/Track I left off at??...Do you know if there is any option or adjustment to remedy this issue??...Please HELP ME!!!...AMM

I just called you guys today about my CD player on a 2006 BMW 750li. The Radio, Navigation, and Phone are working fine. The CD player has no sound. I carried unit to a local shop and they informed me that I needed a refurbished unit because sound wires are corroded, Before I take that route is there possible another fix.

I have a 2005 545i and navigation screen does not turn on.neither the radio. The weirdest thing is the CD changer works.but I cannot controlled or see my options to control my heat position Taurus face legs or windshield. The heat turns on so I do have heat. Also I cannot see the car liquid levels due to the screen not being on. The car drives perfect and everything else works except the screen can somebody please help.

hi I have a 745i with several problems, fm channels very weak and no audio warnings, pdc or sat nav voice. could it still be the ask as ive replaced all 3 big capacitors inside it for the no audio. also the fm channels weak, will it be the fm amplifier or fm amplifier diversity ? thanks
I had craking noise, and so I repaired the ask unit, and that fixed the issue but no bass so im assuming by logic 7 is bad. I don't want to fix it as itll go bad again can I just add external amp wired to the logic 7?
My car is doing the same thing i believe. Music will play for 3 seconds then crackle music will play again for 3 seconds then crackle. How did you fix this issue?
Same problem here, it's a 2013 X3, I bypass the SOS module, nothing, then I connected a new amp, no sound. The radio works fine, what else can be?
BMW X3 has totally different sound system. If all the functions work fine including navigation and 12v power to the amplifier. Then you might have problem with programming of your CIC unit (radio/CD player} in the dashboard.

@@ABWSKITCHEN once you do that, check to see if the CIC unit is reset itself back to default "internal Amp" or the coding is correct, should be "external Amp".

Hey I got the same problem on my 2006 750i the CD player works I loads the cd but didn’t have any sound, I have no stations am/fm/sat, I tried connecting my lollipop/most bus to the Logic7, nav, sat, and still doesn’t do anything none of the steering wheel buttons and only thing that works is the climate control any tips?

And one more question. My radio can't find any stations only if I look manually. And when I'm stationary volume is all ok but when I'm on move than my volume goes up and down,constantly till I don't stop and than when I move it goes up and down again.
Can I reset it or something?.

Do I need more then one bypass cable .. I tested all with one but not enough cable to test more then one at a time ????
If you have more than one faulty components then you would need more bypass otherwise one is enough. Having more than one bypass connectors make it easier to troubleshoot, sometimes we use 3 or 4 of them at the same time.

This is a great video! I has no idea how to troubleshoot the problems I'm having with 07' 750Li. I'm going to try this over the weekend. +Jared Gray Some of the modules you can leave it bypassed but some you have to have it replaced or repaired.
@@HiTechElectronic I am checking a 745i bmw no sound from the radio CD CDC works but the CD unit have the am/fm mode button the other only have seek/scan button the unit with with the am/fm button it shows all the stations but no sound the other unit I think is the original because the trim plate fits it but not the other unit...?does the ask unit with the am/fm buttons does radio audio supposed to work.

I have BMW X5 2008. All of sudden I drive screen went dark and no audio. In the trunk there are components, phone module and amplifier. The amplifier don’t have a fiber line to check, only the phone component has a fiber line hook up. Pleas help
The problem is the CCC unit "Radio/CD/Navigation" in the dash board.
Thanks for the reply. I checked the fiber to the phone module, there is blinking red light. I checked the fiber line under the dash board, there is a blinking light. The amplifier has no fiber line connected to it. I don’t have navigation system or data LT radio. The speakers every once and a while they make a cracking noise. You mentioned the ccc unit is the suspect. Before l buy new one(very expensive) how do l make sure that the ccc is the problem. Thank you very much.
If your car does not have navigation option then you have have M-ASK unit "Radio/CD Player". BMW X5 sound system is not like BMW 7 series and if the display is black you do not need to check the fiber optic lines. You need to check the fuse for radio and display, and if all the fuses are good then the M-ASK unit needs to be replaced or repaired.

Hi.. Nice video.. my CD changer is not working, it makes a clicking noise when it tries to load the CDs at start up.. I observed it, and basically it gets stuck trying to load the CDs.. any recommendations on how to fix? thanks
I have the same exact issue!!!
i changed the CD changer itself, and yes by myself. I don't recommend it unless you know how to disassemble and enable electronic cable connectors from the board. I'm a Mac Genius, and it was still challenging because I've never seen that type of connector. But anyway, next I will test a new magazine.

This video is very informative except the fact that I buy the Fiber Optic Loop you mention and it did not fit my 2008 BMW750LI cause you forgot to mention that there is female/male loop. I waited 10 days for the loop and took me quiet awhile to dismantle the component, just to find to my dismay that the loop does not fit.

I have a 2002 745li, the driverside rear deck speaker is the only one that works. The prevoius oqner had an after market system in the vehicle. I reconnected the wires the the L7 and i still have the same isssue. Radio am and fm works/cd player works cd changer works everything else works . I basically have only 1 speaker. What do i next?
Most likely the ASK unit is bad.

I must be the ONLY person who checked all my fiber optic lines and had a red light flashing. Even the one in the glovebox. But I noticed my navigation unit orange light was dimming a little and it sounded like it was “cycling”. I had red blinking lights on every component in the truck. So I put the lollipop in place of the Navi unit and what do you know....I have sound and my iDrive again! I’m getting rid of this car ASAP!

Please watch "Part 2" video as well. Any unit with fiber optic output could cause this issue.

I'm having this issue but none of the fiber optic cables are flashing red, this happened after i hit a bump and everything stopped working, I have tried the bypass on all fiber optic cables in the trunk under the steering wheel etc (2008 bmw 335i logic 7) if anyone has any ideas what it could be it would help
Your radio/cd player must be faulty.

Jorge Fernandez You need to figure it out yourself since you have the car with you. You can loop as many as you want but it requires lots of bypass connectors !
Hello HiTechElectronic. I just purchased a 2006 BMW 750 Li from a co-workers friend. He said his CD player wasn't working because he had previously installed an aftermarket CD player and didn't know how to connect the factory unit. After some further reviewing of the car, I noticed the navigation doesn't work, nor the clock, door chimes and neither do the vehicle settings to let me know if anything needs to be serviced. Do you think I should take it to a stereo shop first or should I try the series of bypass loop? Thank You

I have a problem and I want a solution
I have a 745i. I lost my radio channels and cd ,cdc options are grey. My lollipop in the glove box doesnt have any fibre optic light on. Voice module in trunk has light, navigation has light but not ejecting disc, communication module doesnt have fibre optic light either. What do you think it could be? Im @a lost rite now
Double check your connector in the glove box, if there is no fiber optic light then the problem could be the ASK unit.
Hello, i have looped all the units one by one ( cd changer, voice module, nav, telephone and even the fm/am module in the pillar ) and still nothing, what do you think the problem is ? i had the system frozen while i was driving when the music stopped, next day sound was on while reversing and i took the car for a longer ride and stopped again and since then iDrive frozen no radio and no telephone nor trip computer.
