Perez wasn‘t any better in 2021. You people clearly don’t watch the sport.
Perez was frolicking in the midfield for most of 2021 while Max was fighting both Merc‘s on his own almost every race and he couldn‘t even take points off Hamilton on weekends where the RB was faster (both Austria races for example or Mexico).
That defense in AD doesn‘t change the fact that Max dunked half a second per lap on his head all year on average quali and race pace.

Unironically yeah, though not to say he's goated or a red bull prospect.
Logan is dunked on more than he deserves in all honesty.
Dude rarely is more than a tenth or two off Albon, who is a highly rated driver and clear number one, and regularly in races, Logan is used as a throwaway to test tyres and alternate strategies for Albon by the team.
He has zero real input on car upgrades, and he regularly gets them later. Hell, he gave up his car so Albon could use it after smashing his own, and then ALBON SMASHED THE SECOND ONE TOO??? AND LOGAN GOT ALBON'S BROKEN CAR?
From the first race of the season Williams has floundered to get any good part on their car - and they give any good part to Alex first, sometimes weeks before Logan gets one.
I mean they weren't even ready for practice in Bahrain and the steering wheels cut out, fucking them both (but Logan absolutely) when they were having decent races.
If Logan was in like... Aston? People would think he was promising.
But he got fucked by the people bringing him up too soon, and then shafting him. He is living through the worst period of Williams, and he's going to be tossed aside as all their improvements, factory stuff, etc. finally comes into play. At his expense.

Bottas was mistreated bc Merc wanted to make sure they have both the Driver and Constructors’ Trophies. They didn’t need a repeat of Alonso and (especially) Rosberg’s rivalries. Note that both teams had the fastest engines and teams.
Redbull’s current engine is not the top this season. In the previous seasons, data spoke for itself: Max is always faster than Checo. McLaren emerges to dominate, yet Max remains on top. This now shows how much of a beast he is.

Checo ends up finishing the race in P2 right behind Alonso's Ferrari, and was putting down incredibly fast laps. I am a Mexican F1 fan.
And as every Mexican fan, I love checo, I believe he is (or was…) an amazing driver, watching his first win was something that made me cry and make a (now deleted) tribute to the man that defied everything in order to shine in such a competitive sport.
And then I went to see him in México, first Grand Prix that I had gone to, all weekend my friends and I were jokingly saying “dude imagine he crashes turn one haha”.
    Guess what happened next.
I don’t blame the Mexican crowd for being heartbroken, the silence and subsequent cheers when we saw him complete the lap, only for then to be retired, it was heartbreaking
A big chunk of the stadium left as soon as that happened, I didn’t even have a driver that I liked even closely to checo at the time so the whole race was mental torture for the Mexican f1 fans and the checo fans… aka the entire goddamn stadium.
I don’t blame the crowd for feeling this way but I will also mention the absolute disrespect that was booing Leclerc for something that was very evidently (and as soul destroying as this is to say) Checos fault.
Since that day, I’ve been coping every day with the mean and rude comments to checo.
“He is always behind max because he has to!”
“He doesn’t push because he doesn’t have to!”
“He can recover from any race!” (Something that I started thinking only because he pulled it off in Vegas)
But race after race it became “Next week we will be better!” “Next week we’ll be faster!” “La siguiente carrera la ganamos!”… Next week never fucking came.
DNF in Monaco, hurt a lot but ok
And then Canada where he could not get past Ocon of all people and then DNFs in the most soul crushing way ever.
    Then Spain… speechless.
    Austria…
And now silverstone where he fumbled Q1 once again.
It is horrible, to have supported a pilot for so long, defend him from the mean comments from people on twitter that don’t even watch the races apparently (if Checo is bad because he got inters on silverstone then so is Leclerc according to these people)
And just not get any progress. Ever.
The contract announcement felt like relief, but I don’t think even the contract can save checo this time…
    It has been devastating.
Recently I started cheering Piastri on and it has been waaaayyy more fun than before, occasionally I cope, looking at Checo all the way down thinking “he’ll pull a Vegas!” Or something as the gap to the car in front of becomes larger and larger… rubbing salt on the wound when it’s not even a McLaren or a Ferrari but a Haas or a Williams.
I have come to love Piastri and his driving, cheering on Russel for his second win after verstappeen and Norris had their… “disagreement”
Hell I even felt emotional for Hamiltons win in silverstone, I don’t even like Hamilton all that much!
I love checo, but watching heartbreaking performances from someone that was my hero for so long… it’s horrible.
He’s doing better in my F12023 career mode than in real life!
In conclusion, after yapping for all this time, all I can say is two things.
Hopefully he recovers (that’s just me coping tbh)
And LETS GO PIASTRI LETS GET IT FUCK YEAH NUMBER 81 WOOOOO
Edit: LETS FUCKING GO PIASTRI WOOOOHOOOOO MAIDEN WIN BABY OP81 FOR LIFE

I feel like Checo is the same driver he's always been. He's never been consistent imo. He was just a mid-fielder so no one had expectations for him. 149 Point gap is not bad. 20 1-2s, and you get a 140 point difference. They don't want him to take points away from Max and give their competitors a chance. That season was exactly what Red Bull wanted. Easy WDC for Max, easy Constructor's championship for the team. Last season and this season he started to get worse though.

They 149 would probably be acceptable. Bottas had similar gaps in the Mercedes era too, and nobody really questioned if he is good enough for a number 2 there (although he was a lot closer in a number of years, especially 2017 and 2019). The problem is a 290 point deficit, and a 137 point one, halfway through the season (like right now).

To be honest, I would say that Perez has been mediocre for his entire Red Bull stint. Two races in which he defended against Hamilton does not change the fact that he scored only 5 podiums in a 2021 championship-winning car. 2022 was probably the only season in his Red Bull stint that I would describe as moderately acceptable for a number two driver.
It's disappointing, as although I feel like your praise of Checo at the beginning of the video was a little too generous, I would say that he was very good in the midfield and his 8 podiums that he achieved in midfield cars was an illustration of how he was able to consistently put himself in situations where he would be able to take advantage of top teams getting it wrong, which is why I thought he would have made for a very solid number two.
Unfortunately, we find ourselves talking about the Red Bull second seat, AGAIN. I'm getting extremely bored of this talking point which has been a thing since Ricciardo left the team in 2018. I wonder how much of it is Max making his teammates look worse than they actually are, but to be fair, Perez isn't just losing to his teammate, he is losing to a bundle of cars that should not be in front of him.

@@BLEON94 Gasly had only 12 races in a Red Bull that was nowhere near as good as the 2019 Mercedes (or the illegal 2019 Ferrari engine) and Albon had a Red Bull for 17 races that had to go up against the W11, and a car that was basically a copy of the 2019 Mercedes.
Not to mention that they were both inexperienced young drivers at the time they were in the Red Bull. It was understandable for them to not win races. I'm not justifying their poor performances (especially Gasly), but winning races was not a priority for them.
Checo has had 3.5 seasons of having either an extremely dominant car or a championship-winning car, not to mention his 10 years of experience before he even got the seat, so to only win 5 races, as well as long streaks of not even finishing on the podium is just not good enough for a top team, tbh. Gasly and Albon were fired for underperformance, and Checo has had similar levels, sometimes even worse levels of underperformance (in a better car) for a longer period of time now.
Again, I'm bored of seeing more discussions about that Red Bull second seat and I don't understand why since Ricciardo left in 2018, they have struggled to find a driver to fit that seat, but I think it's time to put someone else in there.
I'm sure that Checo isn't as bad as this. He was great in the midfield. I just don't think he is suitable for a top team.

Not to mention, he just generally did not get the best out of the car with low points finishes in most of the races he finished.
