Great info. I’ve got an American Lab whose coat isn’t nearly as thick as my British Lab’s, but I absolutely see what you mean about drive and willingness to deal with cold. The American’s drive is great.

Beths question- All dogs have a pack mentality, they know their place order within the pack, and expect to have a job. Older dogs still want something to do, and many will see the role of "Protector". So, when the doorbell rings, they are simply sounding the alarm to the rest of the "Pack". Best way to settle the barking dog in this situation is to quickly acknowledge them, get them settled down cuz their job is done. You'll never stop them from barking.

He's a fly by nighter? He actually said he was not anti e collar but preferred a slow style of training without the use of the e collar.
