  • Item title reads - Ex-Kaiser in exile. Pathe Gazette presents first and exclusive pictures of ex-Kaiser Wilhelm II at Doorn, Holland.
    Intertitle - 'These pictures are the first to be obtained since his dramatic flight into Holland, 7 years ago.'
    L/S of snow on the ground outside a big house, the door opens and ex-Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany walks out with his lady, a man and woman with a child are also with him, they walk down the drive with their dogs. He is wrapped up in a fur coat and walks out into the snow and further down the path, various shots as they make their way through trees and into an archway.
    Intertitle - 'a stroll through Doorn.' L/S as they emerge from the arch through the middle of a building and carry on walking, the dogs run about. They turn the corner and we watch them carry on down the lane. M/S as they walk through snow covered trees and past the camera. M/S of them in the town as they walk past shops and buildings, a man takes his hat off to the ex-Kaiser. Wilhelm does the same to another man who is walking along. M/S as they walk through a gate into a snow covered field, various shots as they walk through a path, it is snowing quite heavily as they turn a corner and walk up the drive, he bows to the lady and throws bread to the ducks. M/S as the strokes his Alsatian, it jumps up at him. M/S of the ducks on the snow covered pond, he also feeds some bread to his Dachshund and Alsatian.
    Intertitle - 'as he was - "all highest war lord".....' Archive material of the Kaiser during the war, he salutes as troops march past him.
    Missing intertitle - 'as he is now - in exile.' Cut to M/S of him stood in the snow talking to the lady. He looks at the camera.

    I visited the house today. Nowadays it’s a nice museum, with the furniture and decorations left unchanged since Wilhelm moved in. You can also go for nice walk around the estate grounds. If you happen to be driving through Doorn, you have to stop and visit the house

      @Marcus Aurelius, I'm an American and would love to go to Huis Doorn--don't lump your perceptions of what Americans are into one ball. Some of us appreciate history (and don't stupidly blame the Kaiser for WWI).

      @@lepetitchat123 Warmonger lol, do a little reseach, he was the only active trying to avoid the war and the last one mobilizing it`s army. The mistake he made was declaring war officially so they made it look like he started the war which was ongoing for a week before Germany started anything.

    He lived in holland for 20 years maybe did he learned thier language?i knew that willy was linguist fluent in german,english and french.

      He did learn Dutch. That was one of his hobbies during his exile, along with chopping down trees, going on walks and hosting fancy dinners

      @@mee6211 yea, there were only 2 german kasiers, one who mostly watched bismarck make the empire, and tho other who tried preventing ww1 using diplomacy and led the country when the war did happen

    The name of my country is not Holland but the Netherlands. Holland is in the west. Noord Holland and zuid Holland.

    Doorn, always see it as Doom. Seems Kaiser's exile was not in Doom, but Dorn. Did The Kaiser attend Queen Alexandra's funeral?

    German iron, and Russian blood would keep Germany safe.
    Wilhelm II: "I'm available. But it's gonna cost you a place in the sun."
    I guess the others weren't interested in moving the deck chairs around a bit, to make room for another "in the sun".

    He should have been put on trial for war crimes causing a catastrophic deaths and ruin of millions instead of living a life of luxury hanging would have been justified.
