Ptera is really unplayable at night. A bird that can't see 💩...What were the devs thinking when they slaughtered my beloved birdie.😢

If you tap shift while flying you move faster without using as much stam. If you didn't know.
tap? I mean, I don't hold shift long if I want to pick up speed, but, do you mean like tap, tap, and tap?
@@da.mombie no not repeatedly. Just if you’re gliding and just going straight u can hold shift for like 2s and glide faster in that one direction. It’s nice for traveling since you use less stam. Sorry for the confusion lol. Love the videos!
@@DarthSquids no problem, I was just wondering. because in update 3 or 4? you could do that with deino. you could, tap, tap, tap, tap and you got faster without losing any stam. doesn't work anymore tho. so, I thought ptera might have the same

Ptera suffers from darkness a lot, especially when it is a down or dusk and neither moon nor sun risen yet. Night storms are not big help either. The only way you can see at night if there is no rain and you are flying in open area without any leaves above you. Otherwise, you might as well log off or alt tab for the night.
I mostly log at the moment as ptera. it's just annoying to play with a black screen. can't wait for the next update to fix that

They need to allow stam regen during gliding, increased scent range during flight and group tag range and better nv for ptera
better NV for sure, the increased scent range while flying is actually a good idea and yeah, the stam could also improve. getting back while gliding? never thought about that. sounds a little much, yet interesting

What do you mean you don't enjoy practically perpetual night time or fog/overcast in this game. It's realistic! Why would they wanna show a lush and beautiful landscape when they can just remove practically all lighting for 12+ hours of in game time. Seriously though, there are plenty of "realistic" things that can be modified for the sake of fun and enjoyable gameplay. It'd be awesome if they added Quetzalcoatlus or Hatzegopteryx in the game instead of Pteranadon.
true, what I am even talking about yeah, it isn't even realistic. I was in a forest during storms and yet the surrounding wasn't black only. yet I could see rocks and trees and watch my steps. dunno about the woods where they are living, but, I never was as blind during a rainy day in austria quetzal will come later on

Ptera is very fun to play as and adventuring with it is much enjoyable then becoming a carno or land Dino to do it. I still think it's funny how the ptera fishes and carries the fish. Those small little carnos didn't expect suchi to arrive from the air. Didn't know boars in the isle can swim so fast. At the end the first thing that came to mind was DIVE BOMB. Great vid ! I agree with ptera not being able to see at night very well.

I hunt Pteras a lot as a herrera. But i have stopped hunting them at night. The NV is really S*it for them!

@da.mombie water access and sometimes in south plains.
the *only* trick i've found works for flying at night is to have been flying before it gets too dark to see. that way, you can fly close to the water and angle your camera to see your reflection *just enough* to show where the water starts and the sky stops 😭💔
but, if you need to land, good luck finding a tree's branches without slamming into the trunk first

the least what I am asking for is to see a horizon when I fly and the surface of water and land when I get closer. give me something to work with. something to react to. right now I do nothing else but guessing. srsly, you don't even see if you are on a collision course with a big mountain at cloudy nights. I don't have to be an owl, but, right now I feel like a mole with wings

Funny, I was just thinking how its been quite a while since you played ptera (understandable why). Its so rare to see ptera now because of how unplayable it is used to be so fun! The map in general feels so lonely a lot of the time. Gateway is beautiful no doubt, but lately I've been missing spyro a bit ... it was fairly easy to travel to place to place to look for other players. Gateway is such a gamble to go looking in spots other than east plains for players. Typically I'll find 1-5 players in an area and then have to hope that they're something I can hunt (or can hunt me). I think pretty much all dinos should be on ptera's diet, for the sake of hunting juvis but also for the sake of scavenging. Would make it more fun to play and more interactive with the rest of the roster.
scavenging is such a good point yeah, the player movement doesn't work at all. but, to me the map isn't as big anymore. I was playing stego recently and was surprised how fast you get to the south plains, highlands, down to the river delta and so on. but, most people don't move. to be fair, it's also bad designed right now.
best example is east. even I spawn there. it's by far the best place to spawn with most carnis. goats, deer and boars at one place. if you spawn at any other place, then you have to be lucky to get lipids (or whatever nutrients goats give your dino). so, everyone spawns and many just stay there. it's busy, it's easy to get bodies and keep a perfect diet. the whole migration and AI spawn system has to get further developed. honestly, I think there shouldn't be food at a spawn area at all. I don't want to encourage people to stay in an area where juvies spawn. spawn killer were hated in legacy and in evrima it's kind of normal.
Remember, organs are always on your diet

ive spawned in the dark and flew into a tree and died so many damn times
to fly at a cloudy night is impossible. before I can even react to a tree I already crashed into it. even worse is water and some rocks (big mountain cliffs). you don't even see them. specially the surface of water is invisible. just black in black ^^

Its sad you have to either make sure you have a full belly or log off for the night. Or struggle to catch fish in the small parts of night you can kinda see. I lost my ptera to a pig that wandered along after i broke my bone going for water XD. I end up having to spend most of my time at Dam and highland lake to keep a full belly of fish and when im big the little pteras that scavange them. An reasonably sized organ will feed a family but you have to be lucky. Its easy enough to survive when you reach adult but nights still aren't very fun and getting perfect diet is hard.
the nights are just boring. like you said, it's even quite easy to survive. if you fill up water and food before sunset, then you can chill on the dam or any other safe place. the problem is, that is boring. sitting 15-20 minutes at one place, just because you can't see anything. that's such an awful gameplay. anyway, they will brighten it up, so, let's hope the next update will come rather soon than late

A POTENTIAL SOLUTION: Why not make the camera like PROJECT ZOMBOID, the cameras position stays the same as it was always so 3rd person BUT there is a 5-10 m behind the player's dino, in this 180 degree radius dino cant see OTHER DINOS so players or NPCs, BUT can see anything else so vegetation terrain etc... The camera could cast shadow on this invisible area behind the dino except for that behind spot within 5-10 m, so this way the dino cant see anything approaching it, except for maybe the carno which is described having loud footsteps... The 5-10 m radius could be increased-decreased based on the dino's specialties, type, health etc... Severely injured dino could have increased radius or lowered based on the species... So adrenalin pumped heightened sensing capability

that said, I am sorry, but I don't like your idea at all. invisible dinos behind me, which suddenly pop up if I turn, nope, I wouldn't enjoy it. in general I don't understand why so many people have a problem to ambush. I know you are quite new to the game and don't address you here. but, many people are complaining on their discord about the lack of ambush possibilities. I just don't get that. I ambushed many mates and got ambushed out of nowhere even more often. to ambush as carni takes patience. no other cam (like even dondi said), no other map, no other abilities, just patience in my opinion.
@@da.mombie ok no worries, my idea stems from the fact the main dev desires at all cost to change the camera, while the player base dont, so this could be a solution, and there would be a certain radius, so you couldnt spot ambush attempt from 100 meters away while turning your back to the attacker, thats all Im suggesing, for me as a newbie, Im 100% satisfied with this camera and I would like that the focus be on introducing more dinos, especially the popular ones and then expanding on and balancing them...
You said you didn't want to fight juvies without a reason. However, there is a reason. You are always low on food and nutrients and they have organs you can eat so it wouldn't be for no reason. There's hardly any dinos on the dilos list but I'll go after ceras and carnos for the organs. I don't go after juvies, but as a ptera you have no choice but to go after them.
you are right and others mentioned it too. I even did a video about that back then. where I applauded the possibility to hunt every juvie as ptera now. was called something like good update for ptera or so. but, somehow I still feel bad about it. but, that's just me being a weirdo about that topic

11:10 "so beautiful and yet so empty" yup the beauty of this migariartion system is that it leaves the whole map empty and only a few spots where all the players are, its so dumb, I want animals to start respawning all around the map again, so people look for food everywhere and so the map doesn't feel empty anymore, everyone I always see is at Easy Plains.
the migration system doesn't work very well by now. but, the empty map was always a problem. even on V3 in legacy you had 80% of the players either at the twins or great falls. the rest of the map was empty. same for spiro. this is a problem which comes by us (or some of us) players and is hard to fix in my opinion
the migration system is something players requested as far as I know. I still believe it can become a good feature. but, by now I have to admit, the plants in certain areas felt better somehow.
@@da.mombie something that might help with hotshots would be to remove choosing your spawn, since there was a massive impact when they removed that other hotspot location.

that's a problem which is around since the very beginning and to be honest, I ain't see much of a solution for it.
PVP players will always go to the areas which are most populated. no matter how many obstacles (like migration zone) you put in their way. legacy even had a small map for PVP players incl. servers without growth and yet half of them were on the "normal" servers and camped/created the hot spots.
let's be real. this is very much a players problem. no matter what map they came up by now, half of players found them a hotspot or two and ignored the rest of the map. I really blame the players here.
I'm starting to think the Dev's don't even play there game because everyone says this darkness is unplayable and if they played it at all they would agree
they will play, but, not as much as we do. they are probably mostly working on it and will play and try things they are just working on.

They sent photos of the new lighting for the next update, they are going to not only brighten it up but day will last longer than night as well which will be nice.

it's totally true. I also hunted juvies and even named the video back then something like good update for ptera. because it suddenly had the chance to hunt juvies for a reason. dunno why, but, I still feel bad and would prefer to have them officially on diet. but, that's just me being stupid

yeah, I actually did that as ptera on spiro every now and then, too. still, I would feel better if they were on diet. but, that's just me and no good argument
@@da.mombie Fair enough, though in my opinion the diet list for carnivores is the "best" prey instead of "no point in hunting anything else"
When I hunt a player, %90 of the time I get most if not all of my diets from organs so I don't really pick what I hunt based on diets, I pick them based on difficulty and if that playable happens to be on my diet it's just a nice bonus.

I agree 100%, especially with the Ptera. I get the idea of making some dinos very hard of seeing at night, that's true to nature (cows are basically blind at night) But with nights being long, you need to balance it so players can actually play. If you spawn in at night and starve because you can't see, that's miserable.
personally I don't care if some real animals are blind. I want to play a game. looking for 15 minutes at a black screen is nothing but boring. it isn't even frightening, it's just boring in my opinion. I really hate the concept of using a black screen to generate frightening. I always did. I loved and played many horror games. but, those who tried to scare with a tiny flashlight surrounded by a mostly black screen were always annoying to me. I want to enjoy the beauty of the game. silent hill or dino crisis showed us perfectly well that you don't need a black screen to be scary. 25 years ago

NV definitely sucks. I've gotten too good at flying in storms, which shouldn't be the case. Diet must be expanded. Aerial predators eat everything they can get their beaks into. I think you should be able to eat fish on the fly, as well.
When I have the stam for it, I like to feed the babies, as well😀

I would love juvies on their diet. as long as carno, cera, teno and so on are juvie, they give diet. would open a huge range of prey. let's be real, each of them can also easily avoid you. if I run into a bush or forest as juvie, then ptera will have a hard time to even get me anyway. so, it wouldn't be too annoying for juvies either, I guess.
