- Pit stops have been a part of motor racing since the very early days. Together with our friends at GoPro we go right into the thick of the action of a F1 pit stop. 18 Team members, each with a specific job, to make sure the job is done in 2 seconds!
The video also includes commentary from Red Bull Racing's Race Team Manager Jonathan Wheatley who walks you through the pit stop procedure from start to finish.

It's crazy when you're watching old historic races...even back in the Senna/Prost era....and they're pitting for minutes at a time.
watching old footage, it even appears as though theres no sense of urgency. its just universally understood that pit stops arent meant to be quick i guess. limitations aside of course
Yup ....they are slow in pits stops because of refueling , low tech device, using less electronic assistant ....but they compensate the loss with having no speed limitations in and out of pit lane....

I have 1 question; What does the lollipop man do? I don't know and I'm quite curious.
they used(!) to hold a pole with a sign on it in front of the car/driver, and by doing that, informing the driver whether he has to brake/shift to first gear/leave.
If you google 'lollipop man f1', you'll immediately see where the name comes from :)
Nowadays though, his job is replaced by traffic lights above the pit area and on the front jack, so I dont know what his job is now haha

He controls these lights. You can see in the video that he has a remote in his hand.
they also used the huge ass lollipop to help the drivers find the correct pitbox by holding it into the pitlane for the drivers to see. Guess it wasnt really necessary since nowadays this is not done anymore, altough sometimes there are signs on the pitwall for the drivers to orientate.
The lolipop man controls the lights which indicated whether the driver can leave. He has two jobs. One, to see if everyone has finished their part. Two, he sees whether there are any cars coming or leaving the pits, if there is, he will delay the driver from leaving, this is to ensure safety for all.
In the future I really wanna to be a part of the pitstop team

They got it easy compared to Nascar. In nascar they have it down to a science. To the angle of the body at a perfect 45 degree as they round the car, exact amount of steps you take to the next thing, to how tall or short you have to be to do each and every part of the pit crew.

What's the function lollipop man?
How do they know whether all's done? What if someone messes up? Is there a person who keeps track of all the work going on in those 2 sec, and can keep the formula longer in the pits?
When a wheel is complete, someone on that corner sticks his hand in the air. When all are up, the lollipop man lets the driver know he can go. Some teams have different variations but the idea is the same.

how does the front jack manage to move away from the car so fast?
Vaidas Šukauskas The handle is jointed so the man on the jack can move to the side of the car while still lifting the car up. As soon as the front wheels are done they lower the front and sweep the jack away from the side .
At 2.14 you can see where the guy at the front moves to the side of the car, still holding the car up.

But in more detail:
Some guy (I guess Dannys pitwall-engineer) decided to take other sorts of tires very close to the actual pit stop. So the crew had to grab those other tires. On most tracks, this still doesnt take as long as it did for Danny, but in Monaco the pit-area is very small and they had a farther way to run to get those fucking tires.
At least they're not snapping legs like Ferrari
And now in Germany they gave Max the world's fastest pit stop and Mercedes gave Hamilton the world's longest pit stop of the century

And, what does The lollipopman do exacly?
He deides when to let the car leave the pit. So he has to coordinate when the pit stop is finished and watch to see if there are other cars approcahing behind and press the button to give the driver the signal to go when it is safe
having a great team that communicates and support each other is a team undeniable, no matter the distance and or time, nothing can stop you, time does'nt matter and the distance is nothing but short. its then you can stop for a few seconds get refueled see a time know its all good and get on with it, after the team shares and supports, its then you can all get together and celebrate the rewards. like any driver a nod is all he can do. a few more laps then its over, if I was driver in the race, id go out slamming my vehicle in the wall near the end because no one is going to drive this car again. and smash the champagne bottle no one is going to drink like it ever. ha! both things destroyed in the same manner of drunk driving...only NOT. and still wins, gotta love the manner in which information is delivered. kinda like THE SUN IN MY EYES, AND YET YOU CAN TAKE IT FOR SO LONG AND YET YOU CANT LOL YET ITS ALL YOU NEED. ( jacked air released and tires dropped)
