    H.G. Wells The War Of The Worlds is a story by British author Herbert George Wells in which alien visitors from Mars arrive in space capsules first in Horsell Common near Woking in Surrey. This is at first thought to be a meteorite by the English men that discover this cylinder with the astronomer Ogilvy exclaiming that the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one. However, as the Narrator explains, Martian creatures soon make themselves present before using a Heat Ray to disintegrate some of the English people. They soon begin using massive Tripod Fighting Machines and using weapons such as the heat-ray as well as the black smoke begin to lay waste to the British army, leaving people such as the Artilleryman and the protagonist separated from everyone including his wife, and with the defeat of the ironclad torpedo ram HMS Thunder Child the Royal Navy as well succeeding in defeating the biggest Empire in human history, The British Empire at the height of it's power in the Victorian age in which H G Wells wrote the novel. The Martians very quickly establish a dominion over man as they spread their Red Weed across the Earth reaching the capital city of Britain London the Fighting-Machines cause great devastation. Other methods of transport the martian invaders use include the Handling-Machines as well as the Flying-Machines.
    On paper there have been many illustrated editions of the story, the first of which were done by Warwick Goble in the original serial version. Relatively soon after, Alvim Correa drew his illustrations. Henrique Alvim Corrêa was a Brazilian artist who traveled to London in 1902 to present H. G. Wells with drawings that he'd done for the story of The War Of The Worlds and there have since been many been many illustration versions by artists such has Edward Gorey and Lou Cameron. There have also been audio adaptations of HG Wells War Of The Worlds, including the infamous 1938 Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio broadcast and the iconic 1978 album Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds. There were likewise many attempts to bring the story to the big screen as well, including by icons such as Alfred Hitchcock and Ray Harryhausen, but it wasn't until The War Of The Worlds 1953 film by George Pal that this was finally accomplished. Later on, there's been Steven Spielberg's 2005 War Of The Worlds starring Tom Cruise and The Great Martian War 1913-1917 documentary style drama set in World War 1. Recently, the BBC made a TV miniseries the BBC British TV series war of the worlds and FOX, Epic and StudioCanal did a TV series starting in 2019 called War Of The Worlds that claims to be adapted from the source material. There has also been several war of the worlds movies recently as well, including 2021 War Of The Worlds, also known as Alien Conquest, which had a sequel called War Of The Worlds Annihilation and this year in 2023 War Of The Worlds The Attack. There have also been many indie games and art with a survival horror war of the worlds 2005 game which will be a multiplayer survival game based on the Tom Cruise War Of The Worlds movie as well as a faithful adaptation of HGWells War Of The World game set in the Victorian era by GelatoDev and TeamGreen with Team Green also making their survival game a multiplayer war of the worlds game as well and there's another announced in 2023 called The War of the Worlds: Siberia. There's also The War Of The Worlds 1913 game which is a worthwhile, fun and nicely stylised adaption of H G Wells The War Of The Worlds. Also, credit goes to PaletteFM for assisting in the colourisation of some of the drawings.

    As someone who likes aviation and filmmaking, It's pretty cool to see a sketch for a scene from an unmade film, unmade films like this makes me want to get a camera and a bunch of people to bring an unmade film to life.

      The explosion was so big you couldn't make out the swastikas since that's about where the fire ignited. Plus, there was plenty of US newsreel footage where they filmed the airship from angles where they were obscured. If not, there was footage of US zeppelins they could have used especially since they bore US navy insignia

    I believe that Ray Harryhausen's movie rendition of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS still would have worked and it could have existed alongside George Pal's rendition. After all, there have been instances that more than one movie or television adaptation of the same story have successfully been released within a short frame of time. For example, three movie adaptations of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS were released in 2005. I would have liked to have seen Ray Harryhausen's rendition especially if it had been in color. Oh well, even though Mr. Harryhausen did not actually get to adapt WOTW, he still did EARTH VERSUS THE FLYING SAUCERS, which was based on the same concept. Furthermore, although originally released in black & white, that movie is now available in a colorized version.
    Thank you very much for these documentaries about Ray Harryhausen's proposed WAR OF THE WORLDS movie. Maybe a modern-day producer ought to attempt to create something that would adapt the story to the style that Mr. Harryhausen had in mind.

      These days the book is in public domain. So everyone can make a movie/series/game/musical out of it. But that was not the case in the 50s, someone had to pay the rights of for doing it.

    • @s452_Gojisaurus
      @s452_Gojisaurus Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@rapatacush3 That's only half true as The War of the Worlds went Public Domain in the United States in 1954 while the rest of the world had to wait until 2016 for all the remaining international copyrights for The War of the Worlds to expire. Which is the only reason why we got the 3 War of the Worlds movies in 2005 due to the United States being the only place The War of the Worlds was Public Domain before 2016, hints why The Asylum's 2005 War of the Worlds movie was renamed to "Invasion" for international releases.
      Between 1953 to 1975 before Jeff Wayne bought all the remaining worldwide copyrights to The War of the Worlds, Ray Harryhausen had a good time window to get his War of the Worlds movie made as there was no fear of Jeff Wayne trying to kill the project as he done with many other War of the Worlds film projects in the 80s & 90s.
      However, the only blocker being Paramount owning the international film rights, and thus Ray Harryhausen would have to work out a deal with Paramount to get the film release outside of the United States. Given that Paramount drag their feet to make a War of the Worlds movie after buying the film rights in 1925, back when it was going be a silent film, only to do a film 28 years later. It just could have been that Paramount just didn't care about sci-fi in general, which was a problem George Pal face when making the 1960 film version of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine and why he moved The Time Machine from Paramount to MGM instead. As Paramount didn't want to make anymore sci-fi and fantasy films due to high production costs after 1955's Conquest of Space.

      @@rapatacush3 Copyright laws in the United States worked differently back then than now. Before 1978, US copyright laws only protected work for 25 years with additional 25 year extension, up to 50 years in total, before it enters the Public Domain. However in 1978, US copyright laws were updated to 75 years after the author's death which what the UK's copyright laws are currently. Since H.G. Wells failed to do the copyright extension for The War of the Worlds in 1929, The War of the Worlds became Public Domain in the United States and wasn't covered by the updated US copyright laws.
      Also worth noting that orginally The War of the Worlds' worldwide copyrights were expired and enter Public Domain globally in the 1990s before updates to the UK's copyright that extended that deadline to 2016. As outlined in online interviews about Kenneth Branagh's cancelled War of the Worlds movie from the late 1990s.
