Oh Mary, Here I go,I loved the review of the book so glamorous but the kitty story stole my heart. Recently the day my dear baby brother LeRoy died and who just loved cats where I loved Boston Terriers, I walked outside and of all of the cars in my parking lot was a very young tiny white and patch tabby kitten with gold marking and a tiny head was under my car. I am now proud to say I have a beautiful cat baby named "Maxine". I named her after the role of the beautiful and glamorous Ava Gardner in "The Night of the Iguana. I truly believe with all of my heart and my friends too say he sent her to me from heaven to have someone to look after like I did him for so many years while he was ill!

YES- I believe that with all of my heart too. I love the name "Maxine" and especially that it was chosen from a character that Ava Gardner portrayed. He lingers at the threshold and thinks about it. I am thinking it will be very soon. We do have 2 other cats and they have accepted him. No hissing or arched backs, just sweet nose taps...thank goodness.

I have been adopted by more animals, mostly cats, but dogs too, than I can count. The majority of the "pets" we've ever had found us, we didn't go get them. I think they make the best pets. I was so upset yesterday that I mixed up the letters. Dr Redliner is the head of Pediatrics at NYU and I believe all but 13% of donations go directly to the recipients, not corporate overhead. It is affiliated with the Entertainment Industry Foundation but that is a plus rather than a negative. There are so many sites and so much info that I don't know a better place to begin than the above.
Nate Mook is no longer COO of World Central Kitchen so I'm not sure if he is still feeding the animals in Ukraine. But I still send him money from time to time, just by using his name because I imagine more was spent than was collected. The donations go through PayPal.

Strangely, we too are visited by two little cats, fortunately we have discovered they have a loving home, but they visit us and bring us great joy! I just don’t even know where to start with this video. First you throw out a fabulous book which in opening this book and closing this book has the most beautiful design on it it was like 3-D wallpaper or some thing not to say the least everything inside was absolutely scrumptious. Then you bring on the kitty cat which brings on tears. Tears not only of abandonment, but also saved. And then You take us shopping I mean what the heck. L O L it all is absolutely wonderful especially after a very hard day with 13 three and four-year-olds that really wanted to live it up today. Lol but you know sitting down with a few Mojitos and watching this video really changed my tune. Thank you Mary. It was a wonderful video.
Oh honey, say no more! I was a pre-K teacher for 20 years. I taught four year-olds. It's funny how one minute they can fill your heart with joy, and the next minute crush your soul. As I look back on those years, I do so with a smile. They taught me as much as I taught them. I hope you are able to take time for yourself. You deserve it!
Feel better Mary. Life …. What can I say. I’m glad you and whiskers found each other. The book was lovely. I was drawn to the yacht design photos . We live near a few villages where the occasional yachts will spend a day or two . I once saw a beautiful yacht who had a floral designer placing arrangements on tables and sideboards inside. As a floral designer ( second career) I was in awe and wondered how I missed the boat on this one. Sorry I couldn’t resist.

If the dentist didn't give you meds, try alternating acetaminophen & ibuprofen, every 4-6 hours/whatever time lapse is recommended on the bottle, of course. Dear Mary, you have given me great book reviews, funny accounts of making cocktails with Daniel, advice on the redo of your guest bedroom; but the story I will never forget is when God dropped Whiskers into your busy life. Most people turn the opposite way and say no, no. But you have a kind heart and gave that little boy a home with love. I have often felt that one gift of God was not mentioned in the Bible. It does say to beware of strangers who may be angels and to give hospitality. I feel the greatest gift from God that we receive at our birth is being compassionate and available, even in our busy & demanding lives. I have, sitting beside me now, my precious Miss Kitty, who was abandoned in a parking lot, no homes in sight, in a 90 plus day in Georgia. She is 14 now and my constant shadow. My son has a stray cat named Jake, which is indoors and recently had a gorgeous stray boy come to his home. This cat is named Winston, after Churchill, and follows Brian everywhere and is enjoying human companionship. We need to open our hearts when God tugs at us.
I think that God created animals to show us what is true and unfailingly love……..
Also, I always talk to strangers because I can feel when someone needs a kind word of encouragement. It is My God given trait. Have a Blessed Day!

Glad you have a new family member,my new friend I am not so happy with .It’s a GROUND HOG ,IT has totally destroyed my flowers and my vegetable garden.I have never had this problem before,It has eaten my okra to the ground,not to mention my pepper plants,basil,so far it does like tomatoes. My flower pots are a nightmare,I have quite a few pots that are large,like almost as tall as me …..gone .My hydrangeas that I have around our patio have been chewed on ……not my best gardening week. We have set live traps but no luck with them 😢I may try dynamite 🧨 But we will survive 👍. So sorry about your trip to the Dentist,feel better soon. I actually bought some Julissa this week ,I started a fall pattern and just added some to it but I bought it locally,I buy a lot from Replacements.but I am a Big SHOP LOCALLY person. Thanks Mary 🌿🍃
I do try to shop locally, but sometimes you can't. We had a grass issue and one of the cats took care of that by finding the ground mole. I think a ground hog is a bit different. Was your reference to dynamite from "Caddyshack"? Bill Murray tried dynamite with the gopher that was destroying the golf course. That was a classic!

Is there an echo of Dorothy Draper in Mr. O'Sullivan's work? If not in color, in form, and "mixing things up." Thanks for the heartwarming story of Whiskers, in stark contrast to watching Chateau Diaries (which you've said you follow) last night, and crying as Stephanie related the horrible death of her, and Philip's beloved Lancelot. I find myself often waving a certain finger at life - better than punching walls, something I did in my younger days. I hope all is well with your tooth, and thanks for the lovely look at lovely things.
About an hour after I uploaded this video I watched the Lancelot episode. I cried like a baby! There was no catching that curve ball from life. Those are the ones that hit you in the head! I was devastated. I don't know how Stephanie was able to speak. I can't imagine how Phillip and Marie are feeling. That was truly soul crushing!
@@thetartantopiary I keep picturing Stephanie and Philip making that long drive back to Lalande without Lancelot, and arriving home, where he'd quickly become a beloved mascot to those who live, work, and visit there. I think of how long she resisted getting a dog, and never having had one, quickly became consumed with love for him. This is the height of the season there, and I hope everyone, including guests, will pull together to nurture Stephanie and Philip.
I know I am alone in this...but would you do a review on West Indies and British Colonial style? I am an Earnest Hemingway person of design and would love your take on it. OH, and I love Whiskers!
I will try to make that happen. When I toured the Hemingway home on Key West it was one of the best house tours I ever had. The cats were everywhere and I could feel the history...it was a magical experience!

I hope you have no more tooth aches. I have had issues with my teeth. Minerals or something? Who knows? Our feral Tiger orangish cat sits until we bring food out when life gets too busy. We bought a Clawsable heated house on legs for $89. Last winter a cat named Simon Catwell slept in the Clawsable . These cats are all male. Simon was old.
