Listen to his voice makes me feel like a kid again. My grandparents were from WV and I remember listening to them quietly talking in the mornings and drink coffee. I was a kid and would lay in bed, smell the biscuits "catheads", coffee and listen to them talk. I miss those times and wish this world would go back to those simpler times. They were better times in my mind.
Awesome memories my friend. Thanks so much for sharing them. God bless you.
Same cornbread n beans with stove top coffee think it was called a perculater im sure i spelled that wrong but black as tar with a spoon of sugar if you wanted it sweet. god i miss those day's and i don't believe a meal was ever turned away to a hungry stranger though my poppy might have him chopping wood or somethin. Those were good times when people still had values and men still cared about the worth of there spoken word...
I still live in WV. And you brought back old memories of waking up, hearing my Dad and Mom talking in the kitchen, and the smells of catheads, bacon or sausage, eggs and gravy! And their coffee. I ache for those simpler times again too friend. I had the best childhood!
My folks from AL say, 'catheads and loopy sop'.
I miss the old times to. We ain’t got long here on earth cause JESUS CHRIST IS COMING BACK SOON AMEN GOD BLESS y’all Amen 🙏
The chain you found reminds me of what was used to attach a canteen lid. I hope everyone watching has a great day!
Thanks my friend. That's a good guess. I like it.
That's what I was thinking too!
@@donnielaws7020 I really appreciate your wholesome videos! I just had to speak up about the chain! Thank you my friend!
Thank you friend. The chain makes perfect sense.
That thing with the bird on it reminds me of the suspender clips my grand pa had back in the day. More for dress up Sunday morning clothes, (liter duty) not for his work clothes. I was just a little kids back then but as soon as I saw you find it I thought about Grand pa.
That's what I think it was my friend. Thanks for sharing your memories.
The year was 1934, Virgil was 21 and had just been hired by a logging crew to haul timber out of the woods. He had been working for the lumber company for about three weeks using his ol' mule, Wishbone. He was dragging a 22" chestnut log, that was a prize find for the logging crew. His dad always said chestnut trees made for a great building material because they didn't rot, but the trees were getting harder to fine lately.
His dad always told the story of how his grandparents build a log cabin nearly a hundred years ago and that building is still in use to this day by a relative. Virgil would attend family gatherings at that cabin and wonder what life was like in the old days. He respected the old days but liked living in modern times with items like Pa's new radio and aunt Helen's camera. He was especially interested in cars, trucks, and tractors. He was saving up for a new Farmall tractor to replace ol' Wishbone and therefore let him stand out from the rest of his competition.
As Virgil was daydreaming, he heard a loud BANG! The chestnut log had been
dragged over and set off an old dud shotgun shell that some squirrel hunter had tossed aside after it failed to fire. Well, the noise frightened Wishbone and he reared up. Coming back down broke Wishbone's shoe, causing him to stumble and rub against a tree near the logging road. Virgil had a small tool bag attached to that side of Wishbone. Virgil didn't notice the keeper had come off one side of the tool bag.
He hobbled ol' Wishbone back along the road unknowingly dropping items along the way, including a roll of wire, a length of chain, and some hardware. When he got back to camp he noticed the tool bag's keeper with the image of the bird was broke off and that he was missing a few items. That is the day Virgil decided to sell ol' Wishbone and use that money as a down payment on a 3 year old tractor.
Awesome story!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’m livin in a 112 yr old log cabin in the SE Tenn mountains. 🤎
Awesome story my friend. Thanks so much for sharing your memories with us. Thank you.
Bravo!!! 🥀👏🥀👏🥀👏🥀
Sounds like he was following Virgils trail 😆
A farmall? I've got one on the back yard now
SHOTGUN SHELLS! Donnie I really like the way you do a quick clean at the scene and then show us the final clean with the date of manufacture. Have a great weekend my friend and we will see you next time. 😉
Awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing this. God bless.
When we ain't foolin with honeybees... My wife and I detect quite a bit with the same get up as yourself. We hated digging shotgun shells until we got on some old pinfire shells. It quickly changed our mind digging them old shells. Thanks for sharing Mr Donnie and God bless.
Thanks for sharing this my friend. I like to see how old I can find. They are history to. God bless you.
I enjoy watching all of your videos Mr. Laws. I have an old shotgun shell that belonged to my granddad that he never shot. It's a Peters H.V. 12 gauge paper shell. I didn't realize how old it was until I stumbled across your channel. Thanks for all the work you do to share these great videos!
Awesome my friend. That's a old one. Thanks for sharing this.
The fog rolls in something fierce in my neck of the woods. I lose sight of my dogs 10 ft in front of me. Makes driving a little tense.
I find bullet casings on my property. A lot of folks target shoot on their properties out this way
That sure is a handy little hand held tool you got Donnie. Need to get me one
✌🏼😊
It's a Garrett pointer my friend. Thanks for sharing.
I could follow Mr. Laws around all day, and listen to him talk, he has so much knowledge!
Thank you kindly my friend. God bless you.
It,s really interesting what can be found on these old ridges and hollers, thanks for taking us along, from western NC
Thank you friend. Your very welcome.
Great finds this trip...
Thank you friend. Cold day.
The metal clasp has a design that is oriented vertically, so I'm inclined to think that it's a clasp for a pair of suspenders. Especially considering the hook shapes on the back. Perhaps this was part of a child's coveralls or something like that? It's rather ornate looking, and I'm not sure what kind of bird it depicts, but he looks kind of like a blue heron, but with a shorter neck. It also looks like he might have a fish near his mouth, but I can't really make that out for sure. Just my thoughts on that.
WOW, You could be right my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
I agree. I also thought suspenders. Just noticed the cat tails so it could be a water/shore bird. There is a bird called a "Green Heron". They are a lot smaller than the Great Blue. They are usually found in creeks or rivers but they can be found in ponds or lakes. It's so interesting. Hope someone can find out for sure. Thanks, for sharing your comment.
I believe the bird is a bittern, and I agree it looks like a suspender clip or something similar.
I believe you're correct about that.@@summerfi
Good morning Donnie.. Ssshhhhotgun shell. Lovin'it friend.
God bless you and all reading this in Jesus Christ name
Amen my friend. Good morning. God bless you friend.
So fun going metal detecting with you! The metal cjip with bird was cool. My husband thought maybe a piece off suspenders? I love that you found those really old pieces (retired history teacher). It makes me want to get out and do some metal detecting near me. God bless you, sir, and have a great week! Jane in SC ❤🙏🏻
Awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing this. Your very welcome. God bless you friend.
That was my first thought too - suspenders ;)
Cold foggy mornings are some of my favorites. Much of the time I'll bet the non-coins can be much more interesting, just like that clip.
Thank you friend for sharing this.
Many thanks, Donnie.
My husband and I appreciate all of your videos. God 🙏 🙏 🙏 bless.
I Thank you so much my friend. God bless you.
Let’s Go! Time to go deep into the woods, always a good time tagging along with you Mr. Laws!

Always a pleasure to watch your videos, thank you. I wonder if the piece with the bird is a suspender clip? That's one of fun things about detecting. It turns you into a detective afterwards!
Never thought of that my friend. Good possibility. Awesome Thanks for sharing this.
Oh wow... you might be right!
Hey Donnie. Nice hunt! That type of chain is called piano chain because that's what they put on the lids of pianos. It should be made of brass. I use a piece of it for my keys that hang off my belt loop. Anyway thank you friend, God bless you,and have a great weekend!
Awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
YAY .....So glad u were able to get back in the Old woods again and so EXCITED u found some really good Shot Gun Shells Thank you Mr. Donnie I really enjoyed this video 💙💙

I do love the old headstamps, Donnie, evidence of suppers long past. The bird clip is a pretty and interesting find! God bless you, my friend!❤️
Thanks for sharing this my friend. So true.
Thanks Donnie for another lovely day on the Tennessee ridges. I haven't seen frozen fog in years. Thanks again for all your hard wok. Blessings..
Thank you friend. Your very welcome.
Each one of those old shotgun shells, commonplace as they may be, represent a day when a family had food to eat or a day where they didn't. The impact of that on a family that was struggling to just get by is tremendous. Numerous stories I have heard from my grandmother from the early 1900's illustrate that very well. Thanks for sharing the video.
Awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing this. Your very welcome.
Good Friday morning its 5.25 am first cup and sitting down to another great video . I raise my cup to you sir. Still longing to go home. God bless be safe stay well until next time
Good morning friend. Thanks for sharing this. Thank you for watching this videos. God bless you.
That last item could be off a sling or an old belt buckle. Stay safe and take care.
My 6 year old grandson wants a metal detector now. They have them for kids luckily enough. ❤
Awesome my friend. What better way to start and enjoy the the outdoors. Thanks for sharing.

WOW Thanks for sharing this my friend. None here just yet.
Good morning my friend... I enjoy your videos... awesome finds...thank you for sharing your mountains and your knowledge... have a blessed day
Thank you friend. Your very welcome.
My 1979 we were digging around in an old ghost town in Southern Nevada and my Mother found an 1865 $5 gold piece. This was the biggest find any of us ever made. She wasn’t even metal detecting she was digging by hand looking for bottles. She found it on my Dads birthday.
WOW that's awesome my friend. What a find. Thanks for sharing this.
This looks like so much fun. It's amazing to see how old some of those old shells were. I don't metal detect, but I do go out digging on the riverbanks here. During the depression, families lived in tents along that riverbank, so there's old tools, pots, pans, dishes,...treasures! Those old items sure do tell a story don't they?
Thanks for sharing this my friend.
Nice cache of shells Donnie...especially the nitro express ..
The video panorama up through the misty woods was sure a pretty sight...Have a safe weekend , and Thanks again for the video Brother.
Thank you friend for sharing this. Thanks so much. Your very welcome.
Interesting finds! I read some comments and thought the clip was for suspenders too once I saw the back flip up. It's definitely for grasping. FUN ADVENTURE!
Awesome my friend. I think so to. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Thank you for sharing your buried treasures my friend !! you never know what you may find !! God bless ...
So true my friend. Your very welcome.

Thank you for taking me on an adventure that I'd never get to go on my own, my legs rarely work anymore! God Bless you for all the places you take us; I'm so grateful I feel as if I'm right out in those woods too! I look forward to each new video or an older one I haven't yet seen.
Thank you so much. That's so awesome my friend. God bless you. So glad you enjoy them. Thank you.
Nice little collection of shotgun shells, that crane clip was pretty cool. Have a good weekend Donnie! ❄🥰
Thank you friend. Thanks for sharing this.
That was amazing fun..I really enjoyed it. I want to go sooo bad. The engraving on that badge was beautiful. I would like to get one of those wands. I got a Garrett and a White detector but someone stole some of their heads. I'm too old to get down on the ground like I used to, I'd never get up again without some help. When I was young and about 6 months pregnant, I'd go to the old dumping ground near the swamp and lay on my belly and dig up old glass insulator caps, china and old antique bottles with rubber caps in them. It was muddy and cold but I wore cloth gloves under rubber gloves to keep my hands dry and warm. You did really good on your finds for that day, considering the weather you had to put up with. It is more fun than fishing 🎣 and I really like fishing. Thanks again Donnie! 😃👍
Awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing this with us. God bless you.
Love them shell's, thank you for sharing with us Mr. Laws. I sure do enjoy watching your videos. God bless you all. God bless America 🇺🇲

I liked the Nitro shells to rabbit hunt years ago
Thanks for sharing this my friend.
I just got done enjoying your video watching it made me remember about the old cabin below the mean high water mark in the cove at hurricane hollow we use to call it the robbers cabin because back in the day there were squatters staying in it and breaking into the cabins eer the turnaround I believe it is long gone except for some of the sto e or concrete foundation it would be a interesting place to metal detect its probably TVA land
WOW Thanks for sharing this my friend.

Thanks my friend for sharing this. Thanks for watching. Your very welcome.
Thank you Mr. Donnie! Great video! I've got an old brass(?) medallion like that but it has a horse on it and has something to do with military horses. Thanks!
WOW Thanks for. Thanks for sharing this. Your very welcome.

I found you searching for carpenter bee traps. But then I also saw this. I hunt with a minelab etrac. Great channel, I subbed!
Awesome my friend. Welcome to the channel. Thank you. Please check out the playlist.
I'm just here to hear him say, 'shhh-shotgun shell. 😊 😉
Thank you friend.
I wonder if the chain was to a pack of some sort or a box. And that's a suspender strap clip. Love the bird design. Those are nice
Thanks for sharing this my friend.
Good stuff love watching history uncovered would love to go to the cabin my family had and see what i could find but now that my poppys gone i probably will never see the holler he was raised in still want to see the tug fork valley afore i pass n go home though...
Thank you friend. That would be awesome. Thanks for sharing this.
@@donnielaws7020No thank you for bringing images to the storys of my poppy not exactly the same place but not to far when you post clips of the mountains and hollers all that fog damn i really feel that pull it's in my blood my poppy told me about the land putting fire in your blood with it's beauty he said that was god showing you a glimpse of home a place where you could hear him talk if you had an open ear...
That sling clip..take a few Q-tips and dip the heads in lemon juice and just rub the surface. It's cleansing up anything from, different types of gilt to silver plating. Shines em up nice
Awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing.
I’m watching this again i didn’t catch all of it earlier be careful Juvenile deer season opens in the morning and Sunday to
Thank you friend.
Hey Donnie Tommy from Jonesboro another great video on metal detecting that clip could be off of someones overalls don't know but I do know you found some good stuff my friend god bless you bye
Thank you Tommy. Thanks for sharing this. God bless you friend.
Donnie, I think the chain you found is from a old pocket watch. I found a few like it in Germany. The clip you found is interesting it could be from a old musket. Happy hunting and God Bless. Robert
Awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing this. Your very welcome.
That piece of chain looked like the chains the army used to attach the lids to the canteens so they wouldn’t get lost.
It does don't it my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
Hello Donnie;
Great video, nice seeing the things that you have found in the woods. It's always great and relaxing looking at / being in the woods. It puts you at peace. I had saw you came upon a deer stand while out there. Can be a surprise. Just wondering, if you ever come across anything out of the ordinary while out in the woods? (an old foundation, critter or anything else). Take care. Enjoy our metal detecting treasures!
Sometimes my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
love your videos, Donnie. as far as the deer hunters, the moral of that story is be safe, do not go in there in deer season,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
So true my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks Donnie
Your welcome my friend.
My goodness! I've had shoes come off my horses...they might be a little bent because they might have over stepped and pulled them horsing around in the pasture, but they're still in one piece. Not broken like that shoe. I hate to think what it might have done to the hoof when it broke off. 😲 Interesting find.
Thanks for sharing this my friend.
Donnie, I think the chain is from an old Canteen lid holder! Nice treasures, one day you may find musket or pistol!
That would be great my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
I metal detect. We went land between the lakes. As we walked through a old home place I heard help me over and over. I stopped looked around and my 11 year old grandson said you heard that too? We found no one. This was winter no cars around at all.
WOW Thanks for sharing this my friend. That was scary.
It does look like a belt clip or a sling clip.I had an idea it might belong to an ammo pouch.I enjoy each & every video you show us.Thanks Brother God Bless.
WOW Thanks for sharing this my friend. Your very welcome.
@@donnielaws7020 Welcome.
@@donnielaws7020 I waych your video about that clip last night & it got me curious about it.Tried looking up antique clips online. That clip you found on the old log road could, possibly a Civil War reluc.Look at our side, the South & see the pic of a Confederate soldier that comes up.I think over his left shoulder is his shot pouch.or well bullet/powder charge pouch.
That's so awesome my friend. Thanks for sharing this. WOW!
The piece of chain you found looks like a window weight chain from a old house. These were brass.
Could be my friend.
Find some great treasures Donnie see what you dig up by metal detecting
Thank you friend.
Very welcome buddy
Awesome- watching now - have a great day 1:13
Thank you Dave. God bless you.
@@donnielaws7020 My pleasure, be safe, keep those awesome vids coming. I love how you clean them shells up and create a map for them to be placed in
chain looks like that used in a clock to hang the weights from, could have been holding a latch pin on a piece of farm equipment., but prob a canteen lid like that other guy said.
Could be any of them things my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
Donnie Laws, question for you ,have ever had a feeling something was watching you are get a heebee jeebee feeling out walking thru woods ? Good video thank you
Oh yes many a time my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
I dont live in that climate region...The thought never crossed my mind of fog freezing to the surface of trees...Thank for the weather lesson...Were the shotguns used up there for squirrel and turkey.????? That clip you found with the bird was very cool ...Good movie...
I would most likely say Squirrels my because there wasn't many Turkey back then. Thank you friend for watching and sharing.
Mr. Donnie, that one item with the bird looks like an old hook off a pair of suspenders.
It does my friend. Thanks for sharing.
Did you ever do any more research on that metal clip with the bird on it? That really was a neat find!!
Not yet my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
the chain looks like an old sash chain. Could the clip bucle / thing maybe off on an old pair of overalls or suspenders?
Could be my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
Great video. Could that clasp be from suspenders?
Thank you friend. Good guess.
Hello Donnie, really enjoyed this. It made me think of my Dad because he always talked about the old roads. He was fascinated by how the old roads would wind through the woods. This is so interesting because it makes me think about who that was that had those items & why they were there. Edit - Donnie did you find out anything else about that clip that had the bird on it? The bird looks like a partridge or a grouse. For some reason, it made me think of England. Might do some research myself to find it. You might be right about it being from a sling.
Awesome my friend. I think like that to. So much history has passed over them in time. Thanks for sharing this. God bless you.
