"I started worshipping a seagull" is the most rustage quote
Shwabadi really just summoned the entire 8 people in the dinosaur king fandom
1/8th over here
Can't lie I didn't even know it was a card game lol
We out here
WE EXIST
WE EXIST
Shwabadis reaction to rustage praying to a seagull fucking SENT me XD
Almost an hour of this amazing podcast?! Yes please! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It makes good background for during homework time or during independent work
Competitive Magic is unlike anything else I've ever done. Travelling across the globe to play in events, meeting people who are well known in the community and even getting to play on stream if you're lucky. To do that in most other hobbies, you'd have to be pretty incredible at them, but even as a mediocre player Magic (and card games in general) open up that opportunity for you.
The start of the yugioh manga was a comic strip in a magazine all centered around different board games. Like Rustage said The parody of MTG spawned into its own game. It was received well enough that it became the premise of the series moving forward.
The arcade game mark is talking about is either Fate GO Arcade edition where you’d build your team using cards each of a different character. OR the Love Live All Stars Arcade version, you roll gacha for cards that are characters in specific outfits. You build your idol group using those cards and play a rhythm game.
My 12 dinosaur king cards calling to me after years when Shwabadi casually unlocks a core memory
DINOSAUR KING MENTIONED LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!!
as a long time flesh and blood player I'm super stoked to hear you guys talk about it.
The draw of Yu-Gi-Oh for me is how specific it can get. You aren't merely building a blue deck or a green deck anymore. Truthfully, any type of card can go into any type of deck.
So how is it more specific you ask?
Archetypes! Wanna play as evil twins that moonlight as live streamers? Yugioh will have support cards for that theme. Whether its a theme based on SCP, dark magician, fire kings, giant kaiju fights, mechas, ghost samurai etc. The plethora of unique archetypes and decks you can find is astounding. The deck you play has personality among the hundreds of other archetypes people may play. Not to mentoon the generic cards and the fact some archetypes work well with each other.
You arent limited to a color nor are you limited to building your deck in a way. If you think it's good, it's playable. Ofcourse there are a ton of ftk or optimized strategies. But Yugioh has slowly been adding more traps and hand traps to efficiently counter decks before they build an unbeatable board. Yugioh is very fast paced but i feel that works to its advantage given everything else is slow burn. Ofcourse since archetypes are so prevalent, they mostly play differently. Hence Yu-Gi-Oh's infamous scenarios. There's just too many play styles to keep track of. Built a deck that banishes and is immune to banishing? Well your opponent has cards that place your monster in the spell zone! It's a wacky type of fun truly!
Tldr: Yu-Gi-Oh has alot of freedom in playing whatever you want in any deck. Whether it's an alien or warrior etc.
But hey, i cant speak about the physical game. Ive been playing digital on master duel for a few years now. Very free to play and a crafting system as well. Anyways, just wanted to share my love on a game i think is somewhat misunderstood? It does have problems but clearly there's a community that still loves it. Anyways ciao!
This is literally the same for mtg. In fact, mtg has a lot more freedom of choice because you don't have to play the hyper-meta decks just to get a single win, like you do in ygo.
Saying "just playing a blue deck" is like saying "I'm drawing a picture" as a description of what you are drawing. You could be drawing blueprints, a hyper realistic portrait, a manga style character, an anatomical diagram, or a chemical structure. Sure, it's all drawing, but that tells you nothing except that you are drawing. The same is true if I say, "I'm playing blue". That tells you nothing. I could be playing control, or unblockable, or counters, or infect, or draw synergy, or goodstuff, or big stompy or countless other things. Blue just tells you what color of mana to expect.
It's not a TCG but I got to shout out my favorite card game: Sentinels of the Multiverse. Its definitely not like magic the gathering. It's 3-5 players, where everyone controls a superhero and works together to fight a supervillain.
The thing that makes it so replayable is the heros. They each have their own decks that play totally different from each other. Some are super simple and you can jump in right away, others will take multiple playthroughs before you really understand how the deck works. Even if you know them all back to front (which will take a VERY long time) the combination of heroes makes a difference, because they can support each other and combo off in really fun ways.
They also support fan made content. If you like superheros and cooperative card games, I highly recommend it.
The original yugioh manga is a horror manga where they play a fucked up game every episode.
Theres an chapter where they’re playing a parody of magic the gathering. They got so many phone calls of kids asking how to play he shifted the whole manga, thats why there arent really rules at the start.
The last arc of the manga is basically his playing a DnD game against the main villain
yeah i knew it was something like that!
Not gonna lie, a story where every battle is decided by DnD rules and the winner is the one that bullshits the hardests sounds dope
Love the intro. very jazzesk
Love the intro, also magic is great, but I will gladly keep selling my soul to komoney for yugioh
HOLY SHIT MARK KNOWS DINOSAUR KING! That show is the reason I now study palaeontology at uni!!!
A fun card game that I have is Smash Up. It's a card game where you take two factions based on something from books, movies, or video games like dinosaurs, aliens, robots, samurai, etc. and then you put them together to make a deck that you use to compete against 1 to 3 other players trying to destroy bases to gain victory points (VP) with the first person to 15 VP winning.
The only card game I play is Yugioh and frankly I'm content with it's problems. I have zero interest in other games
I play Commander and my current deck is Tribal Spiders(Thantis is the commander), it's not great but I find it funny.
My favourite Yugioh deck is Shaddolls, but Modern Yugioh is stupid, I don't really play Pokemon TCG because I don't know how to play(and I have too many expensive hobbies to get into it), I play the Digimon TCG with a Black Machine Deck that is suppose to be GrandLocomon Turbo, but so far it is more Machinedramon turbo.
Omg commander talk i love it 😻
Yoooo nice intro
I knew this was coming when rustage liked my Universe Beyond comment on the other pod, cant wait to listen
Praise the Seagull!
Please keep doing this for as long as it brings you happiness because it brings me happiness. Weekly for at least a hour
Awesome intro! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This episode is a big blast back to the past. I started playing at the beginning of the zendikar block and it was awesome. magic the gathering very much impacted my creativity and enjoyment of card games to this day.
About the second version of the Isekai game: I think there’s a great idea there, it reminds me of a game called Tiny Epic Kingdom (I think that’s what it was called). Basically, you choose a faction, and that faction gives you benefits based on the resources you have. You spend each round collecting resources, building armies and fighting each other for other resources. The game is surprisingly fast paced, as when someone chooses to do something, everyone else can do it too. The game is also portable as well, as the game fits inside a box about the size of a standard deck of cards.
Another banger that makes Mondays a joy! Keep up the good work
Love the new intro
Ooo love the intro
Rustage explaining the origins of some characters.... was purely for a card game. Is mind blowing knowledge! 😅
1h long is pretty good !!! I'm loving this monday meeting !
Can't wait for the Isekai cards game !
Great intro
Short answer, yes. Long answer, yes but only kind of.
If yall like theme decks, you'll probably love my Garth, One Eye commander deck. He is the only human in the deck, and the rest of the creatures all only have regular animal types. He's a zoo keeper. All the other non-land cards are themed after zoo enclosures or where the animals are from.
That or my "Kenrith takes his kids out to the drag strip" deck which is headed by Kenrith, The Returned King and is focused on vehicles and contains both Will and Rowan. It has cards related to betting or racing as well as father/child activities.
Of my like 24 or 25 commander decks, those two are my favorite.
Love the intro !!
I love card games so much! I played so many they didn't mention, like chaotic, redakia, a yugioh dice card game (not dice monsters), but I really love cardfighter vanguard. The text and stuff put me off, too, but for me, it was the simplest game I learned. I love it bc it makes me think so hard, and I feel like crazy smart when I make good plays, and I like the RNG of drive checks ahhhh I could go on forever I need more people I can play vanguard with.
man the endings keep getting more intense
Love from a Billiam and Vaush fan!
13:45 Lathril blade of the elves is broken. that deck allows u to get like 20 elf tokens and u can tap lathril and 10 elves to deal 10 damage instantly. then just play smthn that allows u to untap lathril and repeat. i once did 30 damge just from her in one turn.
It literally ain’t tho. If all of the opponents have fuck all in interaction then sure, it can pop off. But it gets disrupted VERY easily
Lowkey finna cop the Devils Luck card game, i have been procrastinating getting it but i think its time. Love this series so much.
third favorite daniel remember.
Let's bit forget that "Battleforge" existed. A card game that makes full use of being an online game, merging card game with strategy game.
If somebody is bold enough to try this again, it will be a hit for sure.
(there is a fan driven version of the game still around)
I had a dinosaur king game for the Ds, and when i would mention it, literally no one would know what i was talking about.
Dinosaur King was my childhood, was not expecting to hear it in this episode. I lost all my cards sadly
Yay opening music!!!
Ooooo lets go! As a big MTG nerd this is going to be good!
Dinosaur king is what you wanna be Yeha hey come on he come on yeah --- my childhood
Did you know that there is also a prolific series of novels and comics about Magic the gathering, a lot of the lore is explained there.
I wish I could see or build some of the magic decks they are describing!
10 out of 10 Cam Steady impression 😂😂
Ayy epic episode
No force of will? I'm surprised everyone forgot about that game so quickly
draft and commander with friends in real life is way more fun then showing up to a convention
the first card game i ever learnt is called Harts. then i became a yu gi oh player and now i play magic the gathering almost every week at the local board games club
Leaving support comment for more episodes 😅
As a die hard yugioh fan, I will 100% admit magic was way more fun to play when I played it for the first time (played the commander format I think it’s called?). Genuinely the decks seem way more fun to play and probably build.
I'll fact check here on Yu-Gi-Oh. It was originally a normal anime and the card game was just a random old Egypt game they made up in passing but fans wanted to know the game so they used Magic as a ref to make the rules of Yu-Gi-Oh
I was addicted to the dinosaur king arcade machine
I think the only card game I like as much as Flesh & Blood is Legends of Runeterra the League of Legends card game, which ironically continues the trend of everything they make other than League being amazing.
Yoooo Buddyfight was amazing. I'm sad its done but that was my favourite tcg and still is
Yall inspired me and now I wanna make a card game
Love the jazz intro!!!!!
Collected Pokemon cards, didn't play. Played Hearthstone for a couple of years and stopped. Use to play Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links (speed format version of standard) and some Shadowverse.
I've watched the Dinosaur King anime on 4kids, I didn't know there was a TCG for it
I liked Flesh and Blood so much that i started a business around it! Glad you guys are interested in it!
Mtg can still be fun but FAB is super awesome!
My friend got me into Buddyfight, and while I did like playing the game, deck building felt restrictive. The game forces you into sticking with a theme, and while the card list built up over time, the same restrictions remained. If you wanted to blend two themes, you needed a specific flag card to do so, and you start with a penalty.
yes you are correct Rustage ive seen that yu gi oh manga page that shows off magic the gathering as a refrence
Nah keep the episodes this long. I like an hour long chat between friends
Hypergeometric distribution, it is the exact formula that tells you the probability of a randomized deck of cards having a specific order. Just hearing that you're using it makes me personally more confident in the quality of the game.
This episode's outro had me fucking crying 🤣
Do you guys have a Moxfield/Archidekt/ similar deckbuilding website profile we can check out? Would love to see what kinds of decks you guys are playing!
Edit: adding this in post FAB discussion you may like UFS/Universus it's a licensed Card game, it started as a simulation of a fighting game, and it likely inspired FAB (although FAB is definitely bigger than UFS now lol)
That intro kinda nice!
That Rustage unhinged outtro though…
~_~
I just started playing magic yesterday and its really fun
My intro to card games was Yu-Gi-Oh. I was an active player who scoffed at people who said MTG is the Ultimate CG for so long.
Recently bought some Doctor Who MTG decks and I'm starting to believe
SHWABADI you legit made me clap my hands in fuckin euphoria. I did not think anyone would ever mention dinosaur king again holy crap. I watched the show as a kid and then played the Nintendo ds game. Super big fan of it and this made me feel so nostalgia omg
wow im surprised buddyfight got brought up. fun game.
Dinosaur king gave me a flashback.. i remember seeing a few episodes of the show.
never saw the game though
i would never throw awey any cards i get from a booster cause ik plenty of people who play the game and some of them might want those cards so its always nice to have cards
I feel the main problem for Yu-Gi-Oh is that you can’t do anything because the 1 billion negates and the 2 trillion draw cards
Hearing Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight get mentioned breathed new life into me…they are correct though teaching new players vanguard isn’t hard but is slightly insane
Cardfight Vanguard is my personal favorite card game, im just happy they talked about it even just to slam the card text box which i understand lmfao
I remember playing Dinosaur King on an arcade machine YEARS ago
I've been getting semi into card video games recently. I finally beat Inscryption's Kaycee's Mod, which Inscryp is one of my favourite games EVER, and i've been playing Balatro recently which is a Poker Roguelike!
In yugioh i can recommend edison format if you want to try a slower version of yugioh that still has fun combos and as a bonus you can build a lot of edison deck for cheap
Dinosaur king mention LETS GO
Schwab!! Dinosaur King was my childhood man I know exactly what it is!! The og anime it's based on was available on Netflix so I watched the shirt out of that show when I was younger!! Dinosaur King is goated!!
Highly recommend trying out the new digimon tcg very unique with its low rng, unique resorce system and digivolve mechanic of all the tcg's ive played it is my fav
In all of primary school, I only knew 1 mate that could play Dinosaur King with me 😅
Omg the outro tho 😂
While I do enjoy and like MTG, there's just a special connection I got with Yugioh that I love too much, whether the anime/manga or actual card game. But I bought the expansion pack for OP DnD, and it's really fun not to mention the art is fantastic. Also the digimon card game was kinda interesting but nowhere near as good as others.
THERES INTRO MUSIC YOOOOOOOOOOOOO
4:53 I now feel really old cause I start playing mtg in 2000
Yugioh is a game for rules lawyers. You can have a monster that "can't be targeted by card effects," and your opponent will do that anyways because the text on their effect says "choose" instead of "target"
I dont have a YT, only an insta. But i do stonework and jewelry crafting as a hobby. If y'all would have any interest in discussing that...
I would love to see the second version of the isekai card game as a proper board game. Sounds like it could be a fun niche board game.
You guys should try the zatch bell tcg it's pretty fun
That ending 😂
i have a flying zombies commander deck but it only has like one zombie creature, the commander sacrifises creatures and makes them into zombies, he also gives zombies flying xd
Intro cool❤ And personally no
Can't wait for Vestoria tcg
Alright, I NEVER expected Shwabadi to know Buddyfight and Dinosaur king. These were my whole childhood.
Also I tried to get into Magic, but there is literally no one (i know) in India who plays or has even heard of it and its just a personal preference but i dont like to play tcgs digitally.
Don't know if you guys have played Here to Slay. It's kinda like a team draft game with monster fighting aspect.
Oh weird I started playing in amonkhet as well when my dad showed me magic
Does anyone remember Duel Masters or was that a fever dream?
