Japanese Wind Chime, Furin Festival at Heian Jingu Shrine in Kyoto: Symbol of Summer in Japan

Furin (wind chime) is a traditional Japanese wind chime typically hung under the eaves of buildings or on porches during the summer months.
The gentle tinkling sound of Furin is associated with the cooling and refreshing feeling of a breeze in the hot summer months. Furin are often seen as a symbol of summer and are used to invoke a sense of tranquility and nostalgia.
During summer festivals, Furin markets and fairs are popular, where people can purchase a variety of wind chimes. Some shrines and temples also display numerous Furin, creating a beautiful and auditory spectacle. It is said that Furin serves to ward off evil spirits and bad luck.
The Furin Festival at Heian Jingu Shrine is held from the end of June to late August.
The entrance to Heian Jingu Shrine is free, but it costs 300 JPY for a strip of paper to inscribe a wish and pass through the numerous Furin.
