when i was a 15 my mum asked me what i wanted for my birthday, i asked for tickets to see this. it was freaking awsome. i actually cried and so did my sister. and i was a pretty rebellious tough teenager. into drugs and crime. it touched me in such a way i changed alot of my life. dont know why it was just really fantastic and made me think there was more to life.
fairo I, like you, when I was younger I wanted to see a Varekai performance... but the last ones were in Philippines, and my parents couldn't take me there... too far ;( but now they're doing the another tour. The cast hasn't all the same charachters, but the magic and the feelings that Varekai gives me, with the colours, the music and the story is something I can't describe. Like you I'm a strong girl, but Varekai stole my heart... for ever. Cirque du Soleil and its shows, is more than a circus. It's something better, stronger, and magic.
Saw it when I was nine, here I am coming back to the music years later... really is a powerful show. I’ve never truly been “teleported to another place” during a play or any type of show, but THIS did. I literally forgot I was in a theater and really felt like I was in this incredible forest. Hard to describe really, this show just had a magical effect on me unlike anything else I’ve ever seen. After I saw it and went back to school the next day, I kept getting in trouble by this really bitchy teacher because I kept humming all the music without realizing, drawing the characters from the show, etc. I’m telling you, I was obsessed!
Very proud that this changed your life. Gotta give thanks to the arranger/composer/songwriter. Im not sure of his name for this point of time of Varekai. But ya give thanks to the guy and the awesome musicians. It touches my heart that these musicians really changed your life

I saw this show at Randall's Island New York now Ex- wife anniversary. I've never been taken to such a awesome Place mentally by being inside watching that show and the music second to none such an awesome show.wow so much has changed in 14 years.

It sounds like a Slavic-influenced Romani dialect. I speak Russian and could understand a tiny bit of it, and a Bulgarian friend understood more, so it's closer to South Slavic languages in the Balkans. The name of the song itself is the Romanian word for "song", but other than the word "luna", there are no other Romanian or Latin-based words in it. It's a beautiful, rare mystery. :)
