The director said this was a prequel to Gene Wilder film so sequel would have to be pretty dark to get him to that point. Irony though Timothy is only 3 years younger than Gene was playing the character
Gene was 38 and Timothee just became 28. Your maths doesn’t add up there ;)
@@drknightmare9963thank you 😂
@@drknightmare9963 I thought Gene was 31
bro the math ain't mathing
I enjoyed the movie, but the story ends not too far off from the start of the original film, so I don't see what they'd do in a sequel without retreading the same ground
The director says this prequel movie takes place 25 years before the original movie. Lot more stories they can tell
I think the biggest problem with a sequel isn't budget, actors or directors. Its that the story between this one and the original must end somewhere dark. He went from this joyous man to Gene Wilder's version, a hermit alone but for the oompa loompa's, shut off from the whole world and completely cynical.
How that happened is the obvious story to tell, but how do you do that and retain the feel good nature?
Definitely will !
Smashed it at the box office… did much better than I thought it would tbh
The chocolate cartel are still around. I'm sure they could bring back Slugworth and the other two baddies for the sequel for them to continue undermining Wonka. Perhaps for the sequel we'll have Charlie's grandpa coming to work for Wonka and he gets bribed/blackmailed by the cartel to leak Wonka's trade secrets, thus pushing him to fire all his human employees and get the Oompa Loompas to work for him instead.
Does anyone remember the scene in the original willy wonka movie where, Grandpa Joe tells Charlie about the time where Willy Wonka had to shut down his factory? Well, If they do a sequel to Wonka, I'd like to see that happen.
I think it definitely gets a sequel, it's a rare movie that is a hit at the box office alone. Even though it is at number 12 right now, it's a much bigger hit than Elemental, MI Dead Reckoning, Fast X, Little Mermaid, etc. I would argue it is among the year's top 5 biggest hits!
And coupled with that, I think it has more story to tell as well. I would love a sequel, and with Timothee Challamet on his way to become the GOAT, I would bet the house that he will definitely come back to play Wonka again.
Slow your roll there buddy, it's not in the top five of the year and I think for timothee's sake I don't think he would want to get pigeon hold like that
@@jovonsaintlouis125 How is it not the top 5 biggest hits of the year? Name 5 movies that made more profit than Wonka?
I may not bet the house on it, but I am very sure we are getting one😅
@@cinemadrunk13 barbie, Oppenheimer, guardians 3,spider verse 2,John wick 4,super Mario bros movie i could go on
@@jovonsaintlouis125 I think that's pretty much it! Because it is as big of a hit as John Wick 4!
@@jovonsaintlouis125ew I don't loke the barbie movie that movie was so cringe oppenheimer was very boring
Honestly, it was a legit good film, where I feel it deserves a sequel just due to how much has to happen for Wanka to become that jaded cynic we see by the time the golden tickets get shipped out. Add in that Chalamet is an all around REALLY good actor, and yeah, I'm more than excited for a sequel and cannot wait.
I am not a big musical person and this movie had me singing songs all day. Scrub scrub!! I will say this every time I clean the house lol
lol 😂 it’s stuck in my friend and I’s head
I think if it had a sequel it would have even more original songs maybe we might get another song from the gene wilder version sung at the end of the movie
I was actually thinking it would be neat to get a “Charlie and the glass elevator” movie (the sequel to Charlie and the chocolate factory) then we would have an unofficial trilogy- “Wonka”, “Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory” and “Charlie and the Glass elevator”
I rather sequel still focus on young willy wonka
12 days after this video, and Wonka is now the 9th highest-grossing film of 2023. On January 18th, it passed 500 billion dollars and moved up from #12 to #9. Also, Fast X did make some money in North America, but it was only 20.7% of its total output and sold almost four times that much worldwide. Just because Fast X sold 1/5 of its box office tickets in North America, and made less money there than it made in other continents, does not mean Fast X made *no* money in North America. January 24, 2024, 12:15pm
It’s actually in the millions not billions because no film has ever been able to make 500 billion dollars but they have been able to get 1 or 2 billion dollars
It will prob be around 530 million. Id say yes they will do another one. They made this movie thinking it wouldnt make as much as it did so why not make another one.
You were right about 530 million dollars worldwide. Wonka passed that milestone yesterday. January 24, 2024, 12:24pm
exactly and a lot of people seem to enjoy this movie and so do so it makes sense it gets a sequel and I also think it should get a sequel who knows maybe we will get new characters and new songs even I have to wait years for this
I agree
How about in the sequel they do one wonka meets Joe, who wants up some day being Charlie buckets, grandpa Joe, like a younger version of him before he became a grandpa and shared stories with his grandson, Charlie bucket how about grandpa Joe could be played by Freddie Highmore or maybe the sequel could be about how Willy Wonka find the goose that laid the golden egg’s tire chocolate Also in the second movie it’s a show how he came up with the idea to invent ice cream that won’t ever melt if you leave it outside in the hot sun also, the second movie should be about how he got the the idea to invent elevator that flies in the sky still like to see how you meet grandpa Jones sequel
(gasp) You are a genius, Travis Kenny! I was so lost in the wonder and whimsy of this Wonka film alone with Noodle, I never once took a minute to consider the endless possibilities for a sequel to this prequel about how Joseph Bucket may have met Willy Wonka and learned about his chocolate factory, decades before he was Charlie's Grandpa Joe. January 24, 2024, 5:34am
@@adamkalb1in your comment you said 500 billion dollars not 500 million because that’s a huge difference in amount of money
yeah i hope grandpa joe gets hos own song maybe young grandpa joe
I just watched Wonka, it was phenomenal. It was so magical. I want to continue seeing Willy progress, hes got his factory now, we need to see him recruit the Oompah Loompahs, what difficulties come with owning a business, he is a young man who couldn't even read, how can he run this big business and not have troubles like profits, taxes, employee wages, how does he not end up like slugworth, or how does he become the recluse? What happens?
Not me shouting Paul King at the screen!
🤣Right?
Yes, I know. John Campea got Paul King's name wrong. He called him Peter King!
For me, I didn't know that Wonka was a musical, I dislike that part of the movie, that being said, when they were not singing I like the movie, and for the little time he was on screen, Hugh Grant stole each scene he was.
The original was a musical
the 1971 one was musical if you don't like wo ka musical watch the tim burton one that one had less songs
Well the sequel would also be musical since the first one was musical
Just take the money and run! No need for a sequel!
I do want a sequel of this movie cause I enjoyed it I just don't want it to be about Charlie I feel like it should still focus on young willy wonka about him opening his factory and the oomp loompa's having more screen time ect
it's past 530 million now holy cow tbh
i feel like Noodle should betray Wonka and try and steal all his chocolate recipes. or he turns into a Thorin Oakenshield type and thats how he turns on all the factory workers and Noodle as well as everyone else. Maybe an attempt to steal his chocolate gone wrong and it turns Wonka against everyone.
Well, Wonka broke even and will make some money going forward. With a $125 million budget plus another $100 million for marketing it would need something shy of 500$ million to get its money back. The two and a half times the budget mantra is outdated and simply wrong. There is no way it will make a profit of $200 million during its theatrical release. It would need something close to $850 to $900 million in tickets to achieve that.
Considering that outside the US production companies get back only 40% of the ticket price (just 25% in China) plus the fact that Wonka earned two thirds of its tickets abroad, makes it more difficult to earn a profit. It will make most of its money by negotiating the streaming rights with Netflix, Amazon etc.
I got it! 450 million dollars would be breaking even for Wonka.
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator just wouldn’t work as a movie because it’s a book of two halves where the second half has nothing to do with the first half.
and I kind of hope we get just see more of the factory maybe willy wonka is little older so the sequel could start with 3 years later and hopefully the oompa loompas are in it more
Paul King! His name is not Peter King…
It would be great to see a sequel
I agree
Well, they could turn the broadway show into a movie with timothy as wonka
fr timothee chalamet could easily reprise his role as willy wonka
It will prob end up around 600 million.
I mean, to me.. since this is a prequel to the original… it would be weird to make a sequel bc it would be just what the original was.
7:25 but that would be interesting and would be worth a higher budget.
but it might not be what the original was
Does it need one? Eh, I don’t know. I liked the movie though…I would watch a sequel.
maybe it does maybe there still some events that happned to young willy
AND, per today it made $510M 🤯
and a week later it's past 530 mil!
Please NO!!!!!! No more Wonka 😅
pls yes we need to know more about young willy wonka
Meh Wonka was pretty boring
No😊
the director's name is paul king not peter
